  • I know u posted this like 3 years ago but I was wondering what kind of mics do u recommend I use for when i want to connect it to mainstage and possibly record loops and make effects? I have a M-Audio AxiomPro 49 Keyboard which is awesome because it's really accomodating to the program but im still figuring it all out. so not sure if the mic would plug into my keyboard or Mac....help?

  • Looking to invest in Mainstage and or Logic for my live performances. Im new at it and would love to incorperate it with my band. I play keyboards for a reggae band. would love some suggestions and a guide to getting started and how I could use it if I was to do solo shows by myself. Would love your expertise, thanks, lolesiopua5@yahoo.com

  • hey can you tell me if you can transpose to another key while live playing?

  • Hi Kellen

I cant seem to assign parameters with the studiologic VMK149.

Do you know anything about using this controller?

  • Anyone has any idea how to configure Mainstage to be able to use an external sustain pedal...i get the sounds but cant get them sustained..... Thanx guys would appreciate any help...

  • Mainstage is the new synth rack .....always sub mix when using

  • So...is there any way to use mainstage within Logic? Like, If i want to record one of the pre-created instrument combos... Thanks!

  • Could someone tell me why when I'm setting up my layout and click "learn" on the vertical fader all it does is move the entire fader as opposed to sliding up and down. It seems to be happening with all other knobs and stuff. There's something missing not shown in this tutorial. Thanks to anyone with an extra minute of time to help me out.

  • Hello, I have a controller M-audio Keystation Pro 88 and have the Mainstage on my Macbook. My controller has nine slides with nine buttons below. I wonder if I have to program each button to be such a sound when I push. Example: Button 1 (Piano), Button 2 (Hammond B4 II), 3 Button (synth) and each slide up to be the volume of each sound. I'm from Brazil. If you can help me: roddrigo.vitorino @ gmail.com

  • Hey i like the videos. Can you tell me how to add a list of backing tract that i can play from.

  • This video is da bomb. It helped me to get up to speed with logic like crap. Between this one and the loop you posted is aussum. Thank you so much!

  • When assigning controls when I click on the knob or slider and click learn then it won;t let me move the knob and the box is red i think, what am i doing wrong?

  • @scottl926 same here!

  • @scottl926 i'm having the same problem...what did you do to fix it....this is annoying!!!

  • I've had this program for a year now and still don't know how to hear the audio. One day man...One day....

  • lool

  • Did you finish your video manual for logic mainstage

  • Have you gotten to finish your project . Video Manual on Logic Mainstage

  • What I mean is can i turn the pedals on and off without a midi controller if I set it up via automation with a backing track earlyer?

  • Nice Vid ,Thanks . would like to see how you use it with guitar. Can you automate the guitar effects with it?

  • is mainstage available with logic express??

  • @LazyHammond91 no...

  • great vids! preciate you sharing your hard earned experience. getting ready to apply your hints to building a session/live guitar rig.

    thanks again,

    kd

  • sorry for the low ranking. i hit it by mistake while trying to press the play button.

  • Fantastic Video! Thanks! Saves me LOTS of reading!

  • nice tutorial, thanks man. i couldn't figure out what the hell mainstage was good for

  • I have a fairly important question that needs a fairly quick response. I was just wondering how everyone connects their mac to a sound system for live use on a stage. do you use a 1/8th to 1/4th adapter out of the headphone jack and plug an instrument cable into a mixer, do you use a cable that goes from the headphone jack to a red and white stereo connection. i will be performing live soon and need to know the best way to hook my macbook pro up to the band's p.a. system. we use a mackie mixer.

  • i go through a line 6 box called "gear box" through a usb then a 1/8th to 1/4th adapter out of headphone on that, BUT i think it is preferable to use an aux lead out of the headphone jack (red and white ends)

  • now using the aux lead out, where does it go into the mackie mixer. through the tape input? i tried this and it isn't loud enough even with the mac at its full setting. do you have any fixes for this problem?

  • Get a cable with a 3.5mm stereo jack on one end (laptop) and 2 1/4 inch mono jacks on the other (mixer) plug that into two channels on the mixer and pan one fully left and the other fully right. You don't get many red and white phono connectors in professional audio gear, it's more for hifi.

  • do they make those? ill check google.... thanks!

  • Okay so I found this:

Monster CableLinks Y-Adapter, 1/4 Mono Male to (2) 1/4 Mono Female

and I guess I would then have to get two of these:

    Monster Performer 500 Instrument Cable 12 ft. - straight 1/4 plugs P500-I-12

Does that sound good? Will it sound good? Will it get the job done? Thanks

  • No, that wouldn't do it. PM me your email address and I'll link you to the pages for the cables that would work. Or if you go to an electronics store they could make you up a cable there and then. I'd go to Maplin's here in the UK, I don't know what country you're from so I couldn't say which store to go to.

Make sure that your Mac is secure when you hook it up though, if someone trips over the cable, bye bye Mac.

  • use a usb interface

  • Comment removed

  • you could just got from 1/8 to RCA (red, white) into your mixer. That would be the quickest fix. However, a more permanent solution is to go from a audio interface to your mixer. This would eliminate your system sounds as well.

  • thanks. i just have a question. isn't an audio interface for plugging like mics and guitars into so you can record them into your laptop... i always thought of an audio interface as being more of a input thing than an output thing... is there any models that you can suggest so i can get an idea of what your talking about? thank you

  • Many interfaces can do both. Mine has two 1/4 inch outs on the back; L+R. It also has a stereo 1/8 out. Really any interface that has an output of any type will work. The ideas is to take the pressure off of the 1/8 jack, and not get your system audio in there too. I personally have an M-Audio MobilePre USB. It was about 100 bucks.

Setting the output in Mainstage to your interface is the next step. I wouldn't do that on the system settings level because of computer sounds being mixed in. :)

  • thanks so much... those two mic jacks on the back of the mobile pre are inputs right? so thats direct in, so if i wanted to record the vocals it would sound crystal clear? this sounds like a great little box. thanks for all your help... also, have you upgraded or thought about upgrading to logic 9?

  • There are two XLR's on the back, yes. As far as clarity, it depends on several factors, but for the most part it's pretty good. There is almost always a need for mastering after the fact.

It's a pretty good little cheap box. I have heard several people say that the really expensive one's are pretty close in quality to the cheaper models, though I'm sure someone will disagree with that.

I will probably update to 9 soon :)

    good luck!

  • greetings from mexico, im a new user of mainstage, and i dont have a clear idea about how to use it, whatever, im using a m audio controller with 16 faders and botons, the thing here is that in 6:29 you press the vp88 and it appears a windows with many faders, in my case, it appears many options describing something, ....TELL ME HOW TO DO FOR APPEAR THE WINDOW with the faders, PLEASE.. i appreciate your answer soon, thnk's bro and good luck

  • Can't wait for the rest bro, keep it up....

  • Cool Thanx .

  • Nice videos man. I'm sure your hits will increase, because you're pretty good. One question: What sound card are you using? Are you using a firwire interface live?

  • Great vid! Do you get any latency when you play live. I always worry about software based live applications cutting out. Has it been stable?

  • It has been very stable. You have to take all of the normal precautions, but it has never crashed. I can get latency down to 64ms with the rig, so it is about the same as a hardware workstation (undetectable).

  • how?

  • I set up my concert like I did in the video, keep the resources in check, and in the audio prefs I drop the latency down. You get a good deal more processor headroom when you double the latency, so I usually play at 128ms. 128 was screaming fast even a couple years ago....you have to have a firewire interface to get latencies that low though It will be considerably higher with a USB interface because of the way they handle data transfer.

  • are there any special precautions you take other than the obvious turn off the airport, don't have time machine running...? I am looking to purchase this and use this in, obviously, and wondering about its stability in this application. thanks and great demo

  • Usually it's unstable for me when I am switching views rapidly. This is usually when I am setting everything up though.

Latency isn't really a problem unless you overload your computer, or have lots of effects/plugins running. That was a big issue for me too, but no problems with latency otherwise. Probably even better with 2.0!

  • @jareddeason

i just plugged my sh-201 into my friend's laptop and without tweaking anything or even installing drivers, everything works perfectly and i can perceive no lag whatsoever

  • Nice video!
