Will the faithful Aggies attending be as DRUNK and DISORDERLY as the Corps boys that caused and were responsible for the deaths. This was such a sad day. I remember the moment and where I was when I heard the news and how the news made me feel. It struck like cold stone. Much like remembering the day President Kennedy was assasinated and then 9/11. Both of my children had friends at A&M at the time. So sad.

It makes me so mad when people take pot shots at A&M because of Bonfire. I worked it for my four years as a member of the Aggieband (BQ '88) . It was very serious business when we were at the stack. So many critics, who have never set foot on our campus, said that the students messed around at Bonfire. When BQ's worked it, you would get you ass kicked if you got caught messing around. This was an accident. Nothing more. Candy ass liberals, don't comment on something unless you were there.
@Lillsnurpan Yeah I am a current student at this school. The third one in my family to attend. The story was he wanted to help people trapped deeper in the pile then him, and he could help rescuers locate them. No doubt that he saved lives. :(. I actually believe their is a higher power responsible but my friend's brother was supposed to work on the stack and he was actually supposed to be there at the time it collapsed but his alarm didn't go off. I was in high school when this happened and was was amazaed when watching the news from where I live in Washington, DC at how close the Aggie community is which why I remember this. I realized it was the 10th Anniversary when I was thinking of something else from thaty month and year. My prayers and sympathy to the people affected and those who los family and friends.
i have a friend who was working on the bonfire when it collapsed. before the word got out that it collapsed, he called his parents and said, "i dont know if you have heard anything, but just know that i'm ok." within an hour of the phone call, his parents saw the story on the news. REMEMBER '99
I am a member of the class of 1999. This was my bonfire. I had an original copy of this song on a CD in my car until 2001 when someone stole it. I've been searching for it for years. I would like to find again the original full version of this tribute song. This version is missing the soundbite from (then) Gov. George W. Bush and the roll call of the deceased at the end. After ten years, I can still speak along with every voice over in it. Thank you.
I'm a longhorn and I remember going to the game after that and wearing the ribbons. My dad still has them. I'm hoping to get in to A&M because I'm working to be a vet and It's one of the top schools in the country.
no, we got it because many many years ago. The football team was short one. The player was called out of the stands. He was uniformed, and even though he never played in the game he stood the entire time.
to all those who have been involved in this horrific tragedy, family, friends and students who knew them, my heartfelt blessings go out to you. they say that with every tragedy comes triumph so i wish and hope u triumph over this tragedy and overcome your hardships.have a happy holliday and god bless
First he surveyed the Aggie team And in terms of an angel swore, "By Jove, I do believe I've seen This gallant group before. I've seen them play since way back when, And they've always had the grit; I've seen 'em lose and I've seen 'em win But I've never seen 'em quit. No need for us to tarry here Deciding upon their fates; Tis plain as the halo on my head That they've opened Heaven's gates."
And when the Twelfth Man heard this, They let out a mighty yell That echoed clear to Heaven And shook the gates of Hell. "And what group is this upon the side," St. Peter asked his aide, "That swelled as if to burst with pride When we our judgment made?" "Why, sir, that's the Cadet Corps That's known both far and wide For backing up their fighting team Whether they won lost or tied."
"Well, then," said St. Peter, "It's very plain to me That within the realms of Heaven They should spend eternity. And have the Texas Aggie Band At once commence to play For their fates too we must decide Upon this crucial day." And the drum major so hearing Slowly raised his hand And said, "Boys, let's play The Spirit For the last time in Aggieland."
And the band poured forth the anthem, In notes both bright and clear And ten thousand Aggie voices Sang the song they hold so dear. And when the band had finished, St. Peter wiped his eyes And said, "It's not so hard to see They're meant for Paradise." And the colonel of the Cadet Corps said As he stiffly took his stand, "It's just another Corps Trip, boys, We'll march in behind the band."
I met the gentleman who wrote the last Corps Trip. He was a very nice and extremely humble man. I didn't realize who with I had been speaking for about an hour long dinner until they called him to the podium to receive an award. I was awe struck. It is on of my favorite memories from my years at Texas A&M.
Fantastic poem P.H. DuVal Jr. '51 Ill never forget you.
The Spirit that was the Bonfire, will live on forever. As well as the spirits of those lost, my prayers are with everyone. My brother in law was actually working on it that year.
Thank you soo much.. Bryan McClain was a friend of mine and I rarely think about this tragety anymore until the TU game comes around every year. It's been awhile since I have but your video allowed me to tear once more over my friend.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I was only like 14 when this happened so I don't know anyone that died in this, but I can still remember crying after seeing this on the news.
Here. Heading to Aggieland tomorrow and will go the memorial to remember the 12 aggie angels.

I remember that day. Longhorns felt the sorrow.

no offense to you aggies out there. but im a longhorn fan and 12 people died when this happened. is that where they got the 12th man from
hallplaya5224 3 years ago
no, we got it because many many years ago. The football team was short one. The player was called out of the stands. He was uniformed, and even though he never played in the game he stood the entire time.
crazytexan1234 3 years ago
so the player was in the stands or was there just a person that was randomly called down to the field?
hallplaya5224 3 years ago
yeah he was called out of the stands. Here is a link to the actual story. aggietraditions[dot]tamu[dot]edu[forward slash]12thman[dot]shtml
crazytexan1234 3 years ago
He was actually on the basketball team but had played football so they called upon him incase there was another injury ..

The last Corps Trip
EdwardisVic 3 years ago 3
I met the gentleman who wrote the last Corps Trip. He was a very nice and extremely humble man. I didn't realize who with I had been speaking for about an hour long dinner until they called him to the podium to receive an award. I was awe struck. It is on of my favorite memories from my years at Texas A&M.
Fantastic poem P.H. DuVal Jr. '51 Ill never forget you.

The Spirit that was the Bonfire, will live on forever. As well as the spirits of those lost, my prayers are with everyone. My brother in law was actually working on it that year.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I was only like 14 when this happened so I don't know anyone that died in this, but I can still remember crying after seeing this on the news.

The school...the spirit has never been the same since. Old Army is sad to see it go. It was part of what made being a Texas Aggie so special.
