  • damn!

  • your job is shaver trainer damn?

  • He Geo, do you have a video on aftershave splashes or balms?

  • How long does a good brush last? when should you replace it?

  • @TheOriginalStevenH A good brush should last a lifetime.

  • @AlexTubed well I've gone through 2 brushes becuase the bristles come out from the center. I recently bought an Edward Jagger pure badger brush from Shavenation. Its not as stiff as I like it to be but the first time I lathered it up I was impressed with how much it produced.

  • @TheOriginalStevenH To be completely honest, not trying to sound like a snob, you get what you pay for in shaving brushes. Cheaper brushes unfortunately lack the level of craftsman ship of old time companies, and are prone to shedding. While buying a true quality brush such as Simpsons, Shavemac, Plissons, Ronney, etc is a big cost up front they really do last and are superior. If they should shed, which is rare, they also back their product and replace them!

  • @AlexTubed I understand as a consumer I strive to seek the middle ground between cost and quality (and practicality). I got me a good brush for right now I might seek out something that is better down the road.

  • @TheOriginalStevenH Of course money is getting harder and harder to obtain so when we buy things we should all be froogle. I'd say that stick with what you have now while you refine your technique and maybe upgrade to a "lifer" brush once you know the qualities you like in a brush.

  • Do you have any experience with a tweezerman badger brush?

  • @charliejoe1993 He has one at the beginning of this video. They are decent intro brushes, but are cheap and ultimately compared to high end brushes feel cheep.

  • thanks for the pro tips sir. very useful information

  • merry xmas and happy new year Geo

wish u all the best man

  • Just watched this video Thx for the Tip,, ive been shaving cut throat now since sept this year,, i like to hang my Brush buy its handle for 24 hours so it will dry then i fluff it with my bath towl b4 putting it away, idont own a brush holder yet, maybe for christmas...

  • Hi, have you any Semogue or Vielong??

  • @vannelite

Sorry, currently don't have any of those...

    G.

  • Hey Geo,

Love the videos! Been wet shaving for a year now, and looking to get a new brush. Was never plsed with my art of shaving pure badger (year later still shedding). Liked the looks of the Parker Chrome Silvertip. Is it real silvertip, would it be an upgrade from what I have, and with proper care could I expect it to last?

  • @porchonten

Silvertip is the best part of the badger fur.

Yes, it will last a long time as long as you maintain it properly.

    Thanks,

    Geo.

  • Thanks for the tip its was great and helpful. Question: is there a good shaving cream product?

  • @awaprice

Taylor of old Bond, Trumpers, Proraso, Edwin Jagger, mama bear's Soaps, etc.

    All good stuff!

    Geo.

  • thanks it was big help, bcz of u i got an open razor i really enjoy shaving better but bcz im new in use it so i have few cuts or what u call it bumps in my face however i start using my 2 hands when i shave. i have very rough bread and my problem ears in my lower neck maybe if i keep try it will get better.

    many thanks

  • @baghdadx

    Practice makes perfect!

    G.

  • Hi geofatboy.

Can I ask you what size the brushes are that you are showing in this movie clip (s, m, l)?

I'm going to buy my first brush and I can't figure out which size I should but. It is especially tricky when buying from a shop on the Internet.

And by the way - thanks a lot for your very nice videos!

  • @martinielsen

The Rooney (dark brown handle) is a large, the Tweezerman is a small, and the other is medium.

Thanks for the props on the videos!

    Geo.

  • Brilliant! Thanks a lot. I use a good badger hair brush every day but I didn't know any of this. Very informative.

By the way Geofatboy you really resemble Mandy Patinkin and that's a compliment.

  • @RonRicho

    Thanks!

Actually I have been told that a couple of times before.

Also that I sound like Jim Caviezel (Passion of The Christ Actor)....

    Take care,

    Geo.

  • also good post shave routine mix some witchhassel with a alchol free balm makes ur skin look amazing no homo

  • @kantelier

    Interesting, something else to try...

    G.

  • geo just got my twezzerman in the mail used what a difference badger hair makes in the lather especially with praraso and the shave the only reason i got irritation was bc yesterday i had to use a schick hydro bc i had no time to prep n stuff. i got mine from mens co in for 16$ and shipping was free and they sent me a little package of this new foamless shave cream. only bad side is its smells realy bad like a wet dog hopefully it will fade thanx for the suggestion in twezzerman pce

  • @kantelier correction it is not a used brush it is new i meant to say i used it

  • @kantelier

A new badger brush may smell a bit funky for a week or so...

After all, it is animal hair.

Just keep using it and shampoo it a few times and the odor will be gone in short order.

    G.

  • just bought a tweezermans hope it makes a difference

  • And one last question that wouldn't fit...If money were no object what brush would you buy?

  • @KommunistPanda

I would most likely have a brush custom made, with silvertip bristles, and about a 24mm knot.

The handle would also be something custom made, probably of a chrome finish, and longer than usual.

I prefer brushes that are a bit heavier and longer than standard size brushes.

    Geo.

  • Oh man, first off, my face thanks you. No more stupid razor burn. Second off, my wallet thanks you, sure it was a large initial investment but no more paying 30-40 dollars for a package of blades.

So I appreciate the quick care guide and mentioning that badger brushes are the best. But there are like 5 bajillion different ones. When it comes to buying a badger brush what should I be looking at in terms of the difference in cost? Are the more expensive ones worth it?

  • @KommunistPanda

    Thanks!

You'll definitely save in the long run without the cartridges.

If your wallet can handle it, see if you can get a Silver Tip Brush.

The tips will be of a silver hue and will absorb water like nothing else!

This is key to whipping up a great lather.

Some Gents can get a great lather from a $50 brush, while others prefer to spend $150 on a brush.

Get something that suits your budget.

    Geo.

  • @1993diego

You should be able to pick one up at the local druggist...

If not, check out the Tweezerman Brush at ShaveNation.co m for under $20.

Its a genuine Badger brush, not the imitation stuff that you get at the drug stores.

    Good luck,

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy geo i remember one of your vidoes u used a tweezerman n i needed to get rid of my crappy rush i bought a tweezerman from sears for 16$ and the shipping was free 2 guess cause memorial day but hope the badger hair realy makes a difference

  • @kantelier

You should notice a positive improvement with the new brush, let me know how you like it!

    Geo.

  • Nice video geo, excellent for beginners, like me!

  • @MCunningham523

    Hey thanks Matey!

    Appreciate that.

    G.

  • First off - Love your videos! I just ordered the Merkur HD, and won a Gillette Fatboy on e-bay.. (still awaiting the arrival of a silvertip badger brush I ordered).. Your videos have helped me very much in my understanding of taking on this new adventure. Wondering tho if you have any thoughts on silvertip vs regular badger hair? I hear Silvertip is suppose to be better... just not quite sure why.

    Thanks!

  • @drummerdude1133

    Thanks Borther!

The Silver Tip is the most desirable part of the badger Bristle.

You will find that it will retain the water in a superior fashion compared to other brushes.

Moisture is key to mixing a good lather and properly hydrating and exfoliating your face in preparation for your next shaving pass.

A good Silver Tip Badger brush will last a long time if cared for properly.

    Take care,

    Geo.

  • Yo Geo, I'm getting ready to build the ultimate badger brush a friend is going to turn the handle on his lathe for me but I want your opinion/input on the knot is a 30mm knot overkill? long vs. short loft...silvertip vs. super...Cost is no object, any suggestions?

  • @AASTRANGE

    Oh Man!!! That is Sweet!

Making your own brush, Very Nice!!!

A 30 mm knot is on the large side, you should have no problem whipping up a rich, thick lather with that beast!

The only drawback is that it might eat up your shaving cream quickly!

I personally prefer the shorter loft with a longer handle so that you can use it without getting cream on your fingers, (unless you want to grip it where the base and knob meet).

I don't like the brush too floppy.

    Super Silvertip, Yes!

    Best,

    Geo

  • thanks a lot for all your insight. i know Ive been a pain with all the questions but Ive learned a lot through your videos. i have been shaving and had no irritation and baby smooth skin. wet shaving is not only better for your skin but i look forward to it and its relaxing. thanks for your videos you made it possible geofatboy!

  • @nico27004

    Thanks!

I 'm happy that the videos are helping you improve upon your daily shaves!

    Keep up the good work.

I agree. it affords a few minutes of wellness and relaxation prior to the beginning of a hectic day!

    Take care,

    Geo.

  • Is it true that boar brush is for soap and badger brush is for cream?

  • @cristianerena

Some may say that, but I don't go for it.

I have both types and you can use either brush on soap or shaving cream.

I will say that it is my experience that a quality Badger hair brush absorbs and holds water much better than

any boar or synthetic brush I've ever used. That's why my first choice is a Badger brush and that's what I recommend. I find it easier to whip up a nice, thick lather with the Badger...

    Good luck!

    Geo

  • Geo. I agree on the cold water rinse after the warm water clean. It closes the follicles of the brush. thanks for the vids. bosco Chicago ('06 Roadking Classic)

  • @bosco001

Good for the face, good for the brush too!!!

Kills two birds with one stone!

Road King / Sweet Bike! I had a beautiful vivid black one a couple years ago with mid-range ape hangers on it.

    Ride safe,

    Take Care,

    Geo.

  • Where did you get your badger brush? and what size do you use?

    Cheers

    James

  • @pteJames

    James,

The Brush I'm using is a ROONEY (Badger), Style 3, Large Size, with "Super Silvertip" Fillings which are hand sorted and knotted. It is one of their Best Brushes and is one of my Favorites. Happy Shaving and Good Luck!!!!

I really can't remember where I purchased it, I've had it for quite some time.

Search it on line and you should be able to find one.

    Best Regards,

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy Thanks Geo, Love your video's very helpful !

  • @pteJames

    Thanks James,

Be on the lookout for new vids coming soon.

    Take care,

    Geo.

  • Thanks for the video, i am about to order my first brush so i'm doing some research on the topic. I have understood that badger brush is the way to go! I have found some pretty sweet deals on ebay for them, is there something i have to watch out for before i make the order?

How long do they last, do they ware out quickly?

  • @ACpro100

If you're just starting out, probably a medium or small brush will work out well for you. It's kind of difficult to maneuver a large brush around your nose and ears without filling them up with shaving cream.

If you can afford to get a Silvertip Brush, you'll be very happy with it.

If taken care of they will last many years.

Shake it dry after use, brush it over a towel and fluff up the tips, place it in a holder or let it dry bristles up in the open air.

    Good Luck,

    Geo.

  • in your opinion which way is it better to leave the brush after its been cleaned, up or down?

  • @ssnp

I have a nice chrome holder that holds whatever razor I'm using and a brush.

The brush hangs with the bristles down.

Right or wrong it can be debated which way is better, bristles up or bristles down.

I feel that I would rather have any moisture left in the brush flowing out through the tips of the brush rather than seeping downward into the knot.

Once it is completely dry, after a day or two, I will store it bristles up if I decide to use a different brush.

    Hope this helps,

    Geo.
