While a person is on it, heroin will make you skinny yes but that is a side effect of the junkie lifestyle and not directly related to the drug. Food does not become priority, you lose appetite if you're withdrawing, so on. As with most drugs, when (if) a person quits, they gain weight because they eat like a normal person again. Being a former user does not mean you don't put on weight.

Bourdain is like 6'3! Probably has high calorie needs, and the constant flying and cigarettes are not conducive to weight gain. Besides, he's on TV. No one wants to see fatty's on TV.

@catbug666 Clearly you don't know Cantonese cuisine then. The cooking is all about the relishing the freshness of the animal. Especially so for fish. Light soy, ginger, spring onion, white wine vinegar.. and all steamed in wonderfulness. There's nothing wrong with fried fish, but nothing beats steamed fresh fish.
