Curt Hennig wrestled the way you were supposed to. He sold moves and he executed them with ease. There's a guy who should be in the hall of fame and Lanny Pofo should have gotten a push a lot sooner and been a champion in the late 80's he was great too. Instead the Ultimate Warrior who didn't know any moves and Hulk Hogan who was a character with no skills got those spotlights.
I bet this is from 1989 or 1990. I used to have the Royal Rumble 1990 on tape that I got back then and it was great. Ted Dibiasi comes in first and almost makes it to the end. Warrior and Hogan end up in the ring together at one point with nobody else and it comes down to Hogan against Mr. Perfect at the end. That was an awesome Royal Rumble.
It's from Jan., 1990- 1st Saturday Night's Main Event of the '90's . . . Previous one, Genius won Hogan by count-out, following one Hogan beat Macho King & James Buster Douglas was there after knocking out Mike Tyson
Absolutely! A combination of any 4 of those guys will always be better than Lawler/JR.
Heenan said things they could never get away with now adays, but man, he used to have me in stitches. Especially when he did matches for "Chico" Santana.
"Tito Santana is like cue ball. The harder you hit it, the more English you get out of it"
For every generation, we will have those people we listened to call the action but you're right about about McMahon/Ventura/Heenan/Monsoon, they were the best commentators in the WWF. Oh how I long for yesterday!
@alp294 : No, it took a bout five minutes for Hiro Matsuda to teach Hogan how to the do that back in the 70s. If you want proof then search on tube Hulk Hogan VS. The Great Muta, another guy trained by Hiro Matsuda.
believe it or not, I didn't notice at the time. but now you point it out, yes, he was. they should have paid him extra, actually, for all the effort he was putting in.
Hulkamania was done by this time. Just rode out the end of with with Zues, Earthquake and Slaughter before even the hulkamaniacs got sick of it. Hogan didn't even let Perfect with the Rumble.
Mr Perfect was the best flopper in history. Classic.

McMahon and Ventura commentary is flawless in this match. Something that is truly missing in today's wrestling programming.

I still have tapes of wrestling shows from this era, when Hogan and the gang were around, XD.
Good stuff, man.

The Heenan/Monsoon combo will never be topped.

Both McMahon/Jesse & Heenan/Monsoon will ALWAYS be better than redneck JR & faggy-voice Jerry Lawler

HOGAN USED THE WRONG FOOT!! he should have used his left leg. I never noticed the imperfections when I was a small kid.

Mr. Perfect was the master over- seller. He used to bounce all over the place

Yup, we could use more over-sellers these days. HBK is still great, but not many youngsters can do it like they used to.

I remember watching this but I don't remember Lame legdrop! So he basically leg dropped the Genius's stomach, and barely got a bit of his throat.
Its a good thing the Warrior gave him the Gorilla Press otherwise even the Genius would have kicked out of that one.
at1212b 4 years ago
yeah thats the worse hogan leg drop Ive seen. It looked more like a foot to the crotch then a leg drop
SouthOx 4 years ago
Well in defense of Hogan, he always hit it with the right leg, genius was just turned the other way, unfortunately
