  • senorchipotie, the slide he is referring to is one in which the upper body moves ahead of the ball before or at impact. It leads to loss of power and distance control etc.

  • why would you want to avoid a hip slide? that's precisely what's supposed to happen.

    No , you do want to avoid a hip slide , you need to clear your hips but turning them to the target not sliding them

  • @cebc40 ... i'm sure you've watched films of touring pro's swings. they all slide their hips, some more than others, but most notably ben hogan had a huge hip slide.

  • @senorchipotle Look carefully at Ben Hogan's swings on you tube. He has a tremendous hip rotation. It could mislead you that it is a slide, but it is not. His right hip rotating on a level plane, give the slight impression of a slide, but it is not. To slide, the right hip would have to go down and the left hip up at the start of the downswing, but most pros merely turn, with the right hip turning level or slightly up, but not down.
