european boxers throw that shot all the time and they pretty effective with it. they also mix the hook slight with the straight 2. Also when you fight inside and you square off against a guy you can then trough the rear hook alot.
i coach a boxing/mma gym... and that what i tell em , its good to learn just so you have it , but its hard to land... but at the same time , rear hooks are great for southpaw fighters , i got two southpaw fighters, i showed him that and he was in shock on much it worked for him. and if you need a good example, check out mannys knock out against ricky hatton.
@Destiny2k6 I watched some of the Tyson and Calzaghe fights and you make a good point! Both fights are either ALOT more squared up, or the opponent has moved (because of pressure) into a place where the hook is an opportunity. I never looked at their feet. They sometimes are squared up or even switched stance. Nice point.
BoxingFitFactory has all awesome Vids. The title says "typically" which is accurate. I'm just pointing out a good example of non-typical. Tyson threw it ALL THE TIME. watch his knockout highlites on YouTube. Also, many Southpaw fighters use it. Tube "Joe Calzaghe Knockout Parade", it's a short clip, but he hit Lacey with it A BILLION times.
@engine2truck6 how many people can throw hooks like Mike Tyson? Anyway he used to change his stance between orthodox and southpaw depending on which hook he was trying to throw, so yeah even Tyson didn't really throw the rear hook much.

Rear hook thats a recipe for disaster.

Is this also the case for the uppercut or no? I've felt like I've had less luck with that as well.

yea definitely true, it's better to just throw a real short straight shot or a "chopping" punch.
