A beautiful song, beautifully played. This passed the Grapefruit Moon test of bringing a tear to the eye when listening - well done you. The mood is spot on and so much more important than any minor quibbles about tuning!

Watching your your chords as you play and writing them down. Who needs sheet music anyway. Simple but elegant song. You play it well. Isn't it great to master a song you really like?  I have that Album still - "Closing Time". BTW - I think most of the piano's I've heard T.Waits play on had that honky tonk pitch so it fit well here. It's the quality of the audio not your piano, your right.

That whiny sound is caused by the video, the piano was not THAT out of tune .. ;). I've got a tuner coming in regularly (I think every 6 months or so...tuning people keep track of when to come themselves and if it gets out of tune earlier I call..). But this might have been recorded after the weather changed from hot to cold within a week. Piano is next to the outer wall of the house as well as next to the central heating.

But a slight out-of-tune hint does fit this song if you ask me.
