Springfield began exporting firing pins to I.M. metal in colaboration their plant created the slide assembly. Springfield exports the barrels and polymer frames to Croatia because I.M. metal has the most advanced automated Assembly and machinist to which is far too much money to recreate in the States so its imported back as the Xd

I bet that thing kicks harder than my friends kahr pm45,the pm45 wants to jump out of my hands when I fire it, not a good characteristic because it takes longer to get your sight picture back for a follow up shot when the gun kicks this hard. "smallest thinnest lightest and most Mule like when fired" I really want to shoot one of these to compare recoil with the pm45. If the xd shoots well. I definately want one.
The grips are weird on it but it shoots pretty well. I prefer the sub 1911s myself for the 0better egros (imo), but this is a serious contender in the 45acp concealment market. I was very surprised to see them go that direction and excited to see more competition in that segment of the market (45acp specific). Thanks for the review. good stuff.

nice but ill stick with my glock 36 longer barrel one more round bout the same weight and its plenty thin for me to carry easily just under a t shirt or with my shirt tucked in. I am however fairly likely to get a xdm 45 compact for winter carry.
I would feel much safer relying on 5 rounds of .38 spl +p out of a j-frame than hoping that all 6 rounds of .45 ACP make it through this Croatian made turd.
@mgregg85 Per Rob Leatham on a gun forum, the 29 oz mentioned is incorrect. The weight is actually 21 oz, which makes more sense. I don't know if the 21 oz includes an empty mag or not.

Rob is awesome, his demos at the Safariland booth were absolutely priceless. He's just a great guy all around. As far as this gun is concerned, I would carry it over a Bodyguard or a Diamondback mainly because for me there is such a thing as "too small" and that's pretty much what this gun was made to compete with from what I understand. That and I don't feel like adding a different caliber to my collection.
@deltaleader71 Check out the Kahr CW45. Specs about the same, but 9-10 oz., one more shell, and less expensive. Rob Latham is great, but works for Springfield. I really like my Kahr.
@bkendrick52 Ya I have checked them out even shot them. Buddy of mine has one. My problem is I cannot stand silver on a gun and much rather have it all black. Stupid I know but something about 2 tones with silver I do not like. Plus having the upgraded barrel is not bad.
@bkendrick52 I thought so too at first but in certain aspects the XDS makes sense. Some might hate the CW45's trigger or prefer the ergonomics of the XDS over the glock 36. For someone who's had a P239 to step up to the XDS, for the same amount of weight they get .45 ACP in a slimmer package. There are enough positive tradeoffs compared to competitors that I'm sure there's people who can overlook the weight. What matters is that they can comfortably carry it and aren't leaving it at home.

@nutnfancy if this was a ccw gun, you could deal with the mag capacity issue by having the factory mag in the gun and larger capacity mag near it. Do they make extend mags for it yet?
@sorryociffer The difference in size is *very* negligible. You're talking 1/12 of an inch here, 1/25 of an inch there, and you get higher capacity in either the 30 or the 36.
"They" say its lightweight is sooo true. 29oz unloaded is a freakin' lead dipped brick. I rather get a 1911 commander, its going to weigh 2lb loaded and I will have an extra round to boot. The size difference from a Glock 36 is minimal and its a 1/2lb lighter and has an extra round. The Kahr CW45 is the same size as the XD-s and that weighs 19.7oz and has an extra, and round and will probably cost less.
Everyone is so excited about this XD-S, but a 5+1, 2lb 45acp pocket gun is an epic fail.
Not sure why people are so giddy over this. I bought one when it was called the Kahr PM45! Same specs and doesn't have the goofy trigger or grip safety. I'd bet the Kahr is better built too. I thought it was funny they said they aren't a "me too" company.
I was waiting for you to pop the question towards Rob about the possibility of an extended mag in the future, 7 rounds would make it a very attractive proposition. Any info on this?

@DavidTanisDreams Depending on the price difference go with a .40, Up here in Canada its around $80 for a box of 250 rounds which is not bad at all, The only 9mm I would personally buy is the Kel Tec PF9.

@nutnfancy if this was a ccw gun, you could deal with the mag capacity issue by having the factory mag in the gun and larger capacity mag near it. Do they make extend mags for it yet?

@sorryociffer The difference in size is *very* negligible. You're talking 1/12 of an inch here, 1/25 of an inch there, and you get higher capacity in either the 30 or the 36.

"They" say its lightweight is sooo true. 29oz unloaded is a freakin' lead dipped brick. I rather get a 1911 commander, its going to weigh 2lb loaded and I will have an extra round to boot. The size difference from a Glock 36 is minimal and its a 1/2lb lighter and has an extra round. The Kahr CW45 is the same size as the XD-s and that weighs 19.7oz and has an extra, and round and will probably cost less.
Everyone is so excited about this XD-S, but a 5+1, 2lb 45acp pocket gun is an epic fail.

Not sure why people are so giddy over this. I bought one when it was called the Kahr PM45! Same specs and doesn't have the goofy trigger or grip safety. I'd bet the Kahr is better built too. I thought it was funny they said they aren't a "me too" company.

@DavidTanisDreams Depending on the price difference go with a .40, Up here in Canada its around $80 for a box of 250 rounds which is not bad at all, The only 9mm I would personally buy is the Kel Tec PF9.

@bkemdrick52 that weight for the XDS has to be a typo. A fully loaded glock 36 weighs 27oz this gun does not weigh 29oz empty.
