Of course Jump For Joy was written for the short-lived stage production of the same name. The song has nothing to do with WWII, its beginning, it's middle, or its end. Don't be confused that the song and the war have any connection except for the same era.
Great song, does anyone have a copy of this song that was played in a kraft commercial? it is the same except it has more lyrics that say some things like "when the moons bright and yellow and im swell ohthats when i, thats when i jump for joy, when hes gone sky's of black, but the moment he gets back, jump for joy!" if anyone has this, please tell me for i have been searching for this version for years! thanks!

@choreobantic I'm not sure where my director gets the music. Jump for Joy is pretty fun, except for around a third of the way in, there is an obscenely high not that is near impossible to play.
The score and parts for this and 60 or more Ellington transcribed recordings are available from jalc (dot) org in the Education section. Look for Essentially Ellington.

Mmm...Red Army win the Battle of Berlin leads to Hitlers suicide + 7 days = German surrender ,thus VE Day!![the pictures of city crowds celebrating & street parties all come from 7th/8th May '45].
You have to put 2 and 2 together - extreme happiness combined with relief- thus, "joy". It was said of Paris when it was liberated by Allied troops earlier in late 1944 that there so much joy there that day that the world should have ended that day, because no happier day would ever be realized in the history of the world.
The Alto Saxophonist is Johnny Hodges....

It's because all the pics are from the UK and Europe, perhaps the video author is from the UK?

My jazz band is actually playing this (the original charts none the less) along with several other Duke Ellington pieces.
