Those are also called Octopus furnaces. That one is a smaller version..some of the larger versions had octopus arms stretching in every direction. It's probably original and burned coal. Converted to gas in the '50s or '60s most likely.

@Goregoon furnaces now are junk and alot of money to make them work again ....wish i could find one like your moher-in-law has but that wont happen lmao...and yes things are going good i hope lol my son took a hole thing of wall paint and tossed it down the stairs and it went every where i had fun cleaning that up lol but how you and your family doing hope good ..take care bud
