I appreciate that you talk about eating foods that are not organic. It's a fact that many people of color who are vegan, and/or raw do not have access to organic foods in their communities.
i need to meet you so you can help me start my garden and educate me. I love all your videos and I am subscribed to all you channels. I which I wasn't such a novice when it came to gardening. I am trying to go raw and plant my own foods so I dont have to buy them :P
Does somebody know how to make the difference between a gmo papaya and a normal papaya if it has no label on?? Thanks so much for your care to answer!!!!!!
Hi john. This video is awesome.. its so long and you show almost "everything" you are growing in your garden right now "in these cooler months".. But i would like to know from you what is that "in 2:38" "brasel sprouds??? " I cant quite understand so.. how do you spell it please ? Thanks a lot
Can you do a video on buying mangos? Every time I get mangos more than half or all of them are bad. I'm about to give up on mangos. Do you expect most of those mangos you bought to be good?
You have a rich garden! Und Vogelmiere...I've been eating a lot of chickweed in my life, because it literally grows everywhere (also the nettles, sour grass and sorrel, dandelion,...). It's in parks, on playgrounds and schoolyards, in forests...
How does reseeding work with maintaining fertility? Wouldn't the process of amending the bed with new compost and rockdust bury the last years seed too deep for germination the following year?
While I prefer my own home-grown produce the most, and then farmers market produce, then commercial organically grown produce, I do eat certain items that are non organic instead of miss out on some foods that I would not eat because they are not available organic. I choose to eat select non-organic produce items that I feel are low/ or no in residues and may also may contain some nutritional benefit I desire.
There is not. The closest one is LA. There are produce wholesalers in Las Vegas, that I have not yet called to see if they sell direct on a cash and carry basis.
Hi, love your channel! I eat an all raw fruit and greens diet in Sacramento and was interested in driving down to Frisco to the same market you go to. Is this it?
2095 Jerrold Avenue, Suite 212
San Francisco, California 94124
I've never driven in San Francisco, so I'm a little nervous, I've been there several times and the streets are confusing!
I'd like to see you start cross breeding some varieties so we can have the Kohler kale, potato etc.. L. Burbank would love it, great vid, it wasn't long enough :O)
John, if you had to guess, how many individual varieties of edible plants are you growing? Also, do you have any tips on where to find japanese aloe? I have looked everywhere, and it seems like the only info I can find on it is from your gardening channel
Good video! One of the best. Will all those greens grow with freezing temps at night? Thought most everything went dormant under 40 deg. I am such a newbe. Wanted to know your thoughts and ideas on green smoothies when you have the time. Thanks.
Yes, call individual wholesalers, and ask if they sell to cash customers who purchase by the case. Worst they will say is No.. I have heard that before.. and Keep calling them until you find one that will sell to you.
I started eating raw foods in 1995. I have been gardening for 10+ years now. The raised beds in the front yard were put in 3 years ago. You can learn more about how to garden and grow your own food on my other youtube channel growingyourgreens
84 avocados for 21 dollars?!!! I nearly fainted when you said that, holy crap I'm living in the wrong state (already knew that though). I'm hoping everything will work out in the next couple years so we can move to california.
Awesome video, John! packed with info and a great overview of your truly living foods lifestyle. What is the variety of Japanese aloe you mentioned? Just started growing goji's from seed, have you ever experimented with that? They sprouted in about 7 days! Love the longer vids!
Im not sure the specific variety of Japanese Aloe. That is that name when I purchased it, and looked it up one day to find the latin name, but lost that information. I have grown goji and eaten the fresh berries. They can take a while to produce.
@okraw Thanks for your reply, do you know of an online source for the aloe or did you get yours from a garden center? Having trouble finding it online. I found pfaf.org is that the website you mentioned? (plants for a future). It seems to imply all varieties are edible? If I put in Japanese aloe plants on bing, 2 of your vids come up on the 1st page, lol !
Good video John, very informative. Question, I didn't see it here, but would you know what the really dark green kale is called, and where can one acquire the seeds? Thanks for any response.
Dark Green Kale? The darkest green kale is called dinosaur kale or lacinato kale also known as tuscan kale or black kale (because its so dark) You can purchase it at bountifulgardens*org
john, i need your help! please can you recommend me the easiest most less expensive plant food to grow in my house? i don't' have garden, so it has to be some food that is VERY EASY to grow that doesn't need much attention. i don't have any experience in growing food, thank you, greetings from Israel, Amir , very informative video, thanks.
Awesome Video john. This is gunna increase your viewers for this channel for sure! I've lost 22 Lbs in 15 days eating 50/50 vegan and raw foods and I love it! The food taste great, I feel better even tho I have a long ways to go at 294 LBS.. Thanks once again for your advice, and all that you do. Weird thing is... I wish the 52min video was longer! :D
thanks john. after watching your last video on the review of a raw/vegan food restaurant, i was curious what you ate. i guess i should pick up a raw foods recipe guide and try to make a few more raw dishes.
now if i could figure out a good use for the leftover pulp after juicing fruits+vegetables....
I put jackfruit in my smoothie and also dehydrate it. So good.
Curious if you have heard of Murrungay? It's said to be highly nutritious. Wondering if you can eat it raw because it looks like traditionally it's been cooked.
I have not heard of Marrungay, but looked it up, its known as the drumstick tree, aka Moringa, that I am familiar with. It CAN be eaten raw in small amounts. I talk about it in the following videos:
Thanks. Just curious, when you say only eat a small amount if you are going to eat it raw, can you give me an idea of how much per day for a 115lb female.
Wow, what an amazing variety of vegetables you have! You'd probably be the guy to ask on the web here. Would you be able to show us one day all the different veggies we can "Spiral" for salads and pastas? Fabulous video, thanks so much! = )
I do have several videos spiralizing many different types of produce. Mostly hard vegetables work best. See:
watch?v=T77FkjVhGx0
watch?v=81htKSy4eBs
For some examples or spiralizing different produce items. In general, the following vegetables work: Onion, Zucchini, Carrot, Cucumber, Turnip, Potato, Sweet Potato, Daikon Radish, Butternut Squash.
John, do you put all your produce in the fridge? I buy in bulk too, but I can't fit them all in there.. can you give me some advice on which fruits to put in the fridge and ones that don't need to be in the fridge?
No. I do not put all the produce in the fridge. I will make an episode on this, because there is some confusion about fridges. They are another food preservation method. John, how do you feel after eating a meal of pears. Everyone I've talked to including myself have had painful stomach cramps after eating them. This is when the pears are super soft and sweet. Does this happen to you?
Apples, Pears and Watermelon will cause "watermelon tummy" effect.. So in general I dont often eat too many at a time. Unless they are optimally ripe (off the tree), Im not drawn to apples and pears from "commercial" (even organic trade) that have been in cold storage...
I'm 15 minutes in and loving it! can you freeze the jackfruit? I've heard that you should use gloves when you cut them up because they are sticky like glue!
On jackfruit, I have a specific video on how to eat jackfruit, so check that out for all the info. No gloves needed, just lube up with coconut oil. Yes, you can freeze or dehydrate (freezing works best) but WHY? You can buy frozen jackfruit at an asian market for CHEAP.. When its fresh, enjoy it fresh..
