This Video is really bad. I can't believe this guy thinks he can dj. Not a fan of dance/trance music but this video is not as bad as his most recent one!
hey rick nice mix! how do you find the 4d for mixing trance, im looking at buying one and would really like the midi for effects and messing around with loops etc.
@DJRickDawson I'm also looking to get one, however it's my first time mixing other than using software to do it. Is it super advanced or something you can get your head round within a month or two?
Theres nothing wrong in RIcks mixxin, i use an midimapped behringer ddm4000 my self and use sync and play around with effects- much more freedom, i have cdjs and can beatmatch also- the xone 4d there is awesome,
Every dj has his own style, and I think the mix is good to listen to - and in the end thats what matters. Ofcourse its not a perfect mix either but its good, whos perfect?
didn't want to use the earbuds I was using when I had to send my proper headphones back to the shop due to a fault hence no headphones used whilst I did this mix.
I have improved my usage of the eq's.
and also got the effects in traktor set to be controlled with the 1D parts of my mixer.
What a total waste of such an amazing mixer. Get some skills before posting mate. Hint: maybe start using the 1d's on either side of the mixer and stop beat-cheating with Traktor. Start by doing a mix using cdj's and maybe some repect will be earned.
I'm not sur about that mix, sounded good, however the use of the 4d doesn't seem to be justified, for "djrickdawson" beatmatches using auto sinc and uses his mixer for the filters only and nothing else, theres is no contruction and the crossfading between tracks was appauling,

cos no real dj skills were present during this video!
try to make your mix more warm by using full intensity of the tunes combined then use the filters! keep up the good work!

pretty good track selection but you need to work on your timing, you killed the energy of the first song when it was still at its high point but still good...love that mixer

@MattHelden I find it perfect for my style of mixing trance. It has total kill EQs so I just mix 100% using them.
I'd recommend getting one, especially now Allen & Heath have sorted the drivers for 64 bit windows 7.
It might be worth looking at the xone:dx as well.

I *can* manually beatmatch if needed. but as traktor can do this, then it leaves time free to do more effects and selecting tracks and other things.
If any of you think you are better than me, then post a video response.
I am always striving to improve my skills.
I have improved a lot since, so will have to show the world another video mix.

The system your using mate isnt really for the trance genre. More for house techno and minimals styles of music.
Stick with cdjs for trance ma mannnnnnnn!

I know what you mean.
Just check out my longer mixes on my site, these are mixed in the right places.
as only ten mins are allowed on youtube, it's hard to get a trance mix in ten mins, hence starting a track on the breakdown, and mixing out earlier.
most trance tracks would fill 10 minutes on their own anyway.
Electro house is more suited to doing mixes in ten minutes, hence you get more people playing electro house.
I'd love to properly get trance mixes to fit.
