Politicians have to get elected, and they have to shoot for what's achievable hence the description of politics as (the art of the possible). Anyone with an open mind and a bit of observation knows that the far right wing has stacked the courts with rightwing fascist judges. The supreme court has just sold you into slavery and you think it's Obama. You are completely upside down. We are very disapointed in the corrupt congress. The absolutely vile republicans are beyond the pale. "Racist fools."
If you cant watch and determine which passages of the speech are intended to be persuasive than go and seek more info on the histories of influential people, such as Hitler. And study the ways in which made them great orators of their day. Or read more intelligent inquiry's beyond your scope of comfort or education level.
President Obama is the beginning of change. He is the starting place. He brings back family, trust, honor and dignity. He is cleverly fighting against bigotry, and racism and moving this country in a direction we can't see for he is fighting at the core of what is wrong. As he is digging out parts of the mountains of poverty, a failing econonmy, and unemployment, he is eliminating policies that created the mess. The world will see it in time; we are heading in the right direction!

Today is 16/10/2011. With 20/20 hindsight... The good thing about current politicians is that they know the voters will not remember the Campaign Promises. Therefore, it only boils down to who is the better speaker, who dresses best, who looks best. The cover, not the content of the book. All that money went to expand the wars he said he was going to end. The rest, forget it. Now we got what he meant by "Yes, We Can"... It obviously did not include "We, The People" but "They, The Elite"
I probably missed some, but here is what I got from his covert speech: Time for Change has come, desire for something new, we are ready, your building a lead as president (emphasis on "lead as president", afford healthcare, afford another 4 years, afford decent wages, (taking out the can't of course), she needs us (taking out she), get better pay and support, get resources to achieve, those are some I got. The subconscious picks up on key words and forgets the he, she, we, cant, dont, etc.
Second, he uses another ancedote to show how Iowa's hardships have now been the accomplishments of S. Carolina (presumably the state of his audience member). Also, he redifines what a good president is at 1:45 (classic device), and the new definition is as generalized as a horoscope in the newspaper. Finally, I think he gives himself a southern accent to sound similar to his audience members, If it's true, it's an ethos device to get his audience to identify with him.
hehe in the worst economic depression in decades instead of voting in an experienced politician and a former military man, instead you voted in a lawyer with what 6 year in washington? @leela194 Here here.................We got nothing but "Old Hat" left wing idealism in which America isn't viewed as a nation of individuals but as a collective. I am an individual thank you Mr President regardless of your radical leanings or the way in which you sell it!
His rhetoric is using a word like "change," which can relate to just about anything, and is flexible. But for the most part, people who were on the Obama bandwagon were sheeple, so you could have said anything and they would have cheered. A lot of these people were low income, uneducated folk who can't tell you what the two houses of congress are.
@onixz100 In other sections of his speech, you see contrasting and juxtaposition i order to emphasize the "change" and "goodness" he can bring. He also uses poetic language to create imagery and fill your mind of tranquil, cute thoughts.
This works because he also has visual cues going on as well on his placards, given his campaign hired a very professional and effective branding / identity company.
@rednekbnp Yes, I think your right mate. His first meeting he had was for AIPAC. I wasn't surprised either. What was dissappointing which wasnt a surprise too, is straight away, with AIPAC he's all over them, kissing, and saying "Long live Isreal," and all that.
Jeesh,. USA is enough trouble as it is to start that kind of talk. I'm dissappointed that time has gone by and he hasn't kept his promise. Remember his first talk about getting troops out, wrapping it up. And..nothing. It's still going.
@offthehook2 at last, somebody that speaks sense in youtube world, you know theres soo many loonies on here man, anyhoo, wipac are too powerful, they singlehandedly own the whitehouse. he promised 30billion american tax dollar monies to israel for its relentless attrocities. obama is directly involved in 2 illegal wars, subsidising a genocide against the palestinians, showing beligerence to iran, and bombing pakistan and yemen..nobel peace prize has lost all credibility since zionism bought it
@rednekbnp unfortunately Obama can't do much. He promised on Iraq with troops out. He didn't due to oil companies. Same with recession, he couldn't because he don't own the banks. So instead, the idoit imposed the health reform, as "unearned income."
But "unearned income," is passive income, earned by businesses, investors! So he taxed the very people who need help! Average person won't know because they ignorant on financial literacy and the real game. The banks rule the world.
i don't mind republicans doing their little propaganda thing on youtube... fine... but SARAH PALIN? YOU OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND? SHE HAS NO BRAIN. SHE KNOWS NOTHING. SHE IS STUPID, UNINFORMED AND HEARTLESS. WAY BETTER REPUBS THAN THAT
With each passing speech I become less and less impressed by his supposed talent for speechifying. All of his speeches sound the same. Robert Frost said if you could overhear one of his poems and not hear the words, you should be able to tell what it's about by the muffled cadence alone. This guy doesn't differentiate one iota. Poor speaker, when you get down to it. And a worse president.
that's why he looks good. same down-tone intonation at the end of a sentence, and speaking of sentences, they are empty. lots of rhetoric. much of it lifted from speakers he's admired. i'm not trying to trash the guy, but seriously, counting politicians among the best speakers, JFK excepted, is folly. to me, a good public speaker can speak from the heart, on a variety of topics, not from a teleprompter. he's a newscaster, period.
what the hell who would ever vote for him hes going to end this country in war blabla oh please what has he done so far health care which is really bad hahaha yup and everyones talking about the swine flu shot but why doesnt the president take it

Ok Barack Hussein Osama Obama keep quoting JFK and MLK and speak in vagueness to appear more intelligent. This guy is a blank canvas who speaks in quotes and regurgitates the same stuff over and over for people to make their own portrayals of him. Don't vote for this guy
He's talking about 'our leaders couldn't get it done'. He's one of them you sheep! You can improve the quality of your children's education by showing them that it's a priority and if you don't make it one, you're going to end up making it harder for yourself later. We can all afford health care if we make it a priority to improve our lot in life. That is the real challenge to America. That is real change you can believe in. He's asking us to believe in the government!! What a joke.
I'm gonna get a great speech writer and practice reading in a persuasive way so I can convince people to vote for me in 2012. If he wins, the U.S. will be desperate for a change again. Instead of "Yes we can!" my slogan will be "No he din't!" Vagiants 2012!!!!!!!
