  • LOL understanding how propaganda works makes me feel sad for the sheeple cheering!

  • Politicians have to get elected, and they have to shoot for what's achievable hence the description of politics as (the art of the possible). Anyone with an open mind and a bit of observation knows that the far right wing has stacked the courts with rightwing fascist judges. The supreme court has just sold you into slavery and you think it's Obama. You are completely upside down. We are very disapointed in the corrupt congress. The absolutely vile republicans are beyond the pale. "Racist fools."

  • If you cant watch and determine which passages of the speech are intended to be persuasive than go and seek more info on the histories of influential people, such as Hitler. And study the ways in which made them great orators of their day. Or read more intelligent inquiry's beyond your scope of comfort or education level.

  • So true

  • his vocal chords. the tone differnces. like singers do in music

  • liar liar liar obama didn't your mom ever tell you where lies take you?

  • President Obama is the beginning of change. He is the starting place. He brings back family, trust, honor and dignity. He is cleverly fighting against bigotry, and racism and moving this country in a direction we can't see for he is fighting at the core of what is wrong. As he is digging out parts of the mountains of poverty, a failing econonmy, and unemployment, he is eliminating policies that created the mess. The world will see it in time; we are heading in the right direction!

  • Look at that puppet herder skillfully manipulating the crowd of sheep. It's both funny and horrifying.

  • Today is 16/10/2011. With 20/20 hindsight... The good thing about current politicians is that they know the voters will not remember the Campaign Promises. Therefore, it only boils down to who is the better speaker, who dresses best, who looks best. The cover, not the content of the book. All that money went to expand the wars he said he was going to end. The rest, forget it. Now we got what he meant by "Yes, We Can"... It obviously did not include "We, The People" but "They, The Elite"

  • Change my foot. He is just an extension of Bush.

  • Yaah

  • the sudden pauses he does at the end of every sentence amuses me every time

  • i dont get it...he cant even give a speech without preparation....so how am i suppose to be convinced

  • I DONT FUCKING UNDERSTAND WTF IS THAT CRAP THE PEOPLE REACT TO SOME WORDS AS IF THEY ARE ACTORS " SCREAM WHEN YOU HEAR THIS " AMERICA = JOKE

  • He gives the audience the ability, the right tigger and the motivation to interact with poetic timing.

  • obama does horrid w/o a script

  • 2:55 is where he then asks his audience for a call to action after that really good persuasive speech.

  • I probably missed some, but here is what I got from his covert speech: Time for Change has come, desire for something new, we are ready, your building a lead as president (emphasis on "lead as president", afford healthcare, afford another 4 years, afford decent wages, (taking out the can't of course), she needs us (taking out she), get better pay and support, get resources to achieve, those are some I got. The subconscious picks up on key words and forgets the he, she, we, cant, dont, etc.

  • Second, he uses another ancedote to show how Iowa's hardships have now been the accomplishments of S. Carolina (presumably the state of his audience member). Also, he redifines what a good president is at 1:45 (classic device), and the new definition is as generalized as a horoscope in the newspaper. Finally, I think he gives himself a southern accent to sound similar to his audience members, If it's true, it's an ethos device to get his audience to identify with him.

  • @Howsonify Thank you for identifying the techniques he had used in this speech.

  • Why all ways the democrete make more costing to shopping mall so people cant go to shopping at all? Its is ridiculous.

  • hehe in the worst economic depression in decades instead of voting in an experienced politician and a former military man, instead you voted in a lawyer with what 6 year in washington? I dont really know if it was 6 yrs but cmon when in war elect a military man in economic depression elect a buissnesman. When would be a good idea to elect a lawyer ANSWER IS NEVER you guys scrwd up

  • INTERHIGH has been here :)

  • INTERHIGH

  • i dont say this about much- but i hate this guy and what he stand for let me be your judge and you shall crumble

    OBAMAGEDDON- HE IS THE ANTICHRIST

  • Rhythm...like a preacher.

    Tempo

  • He gave a great persuasive speech.

  • garbage vidoe

  • inclusive langauge. Appeal to national pride, hip pocket. Anecdotes.

  • lessons learned here, I think. Obama gave hopes to the people. am not sure if he will deliver it. But hope really drive people emotion.

  • What change exactly?

  • @leela194 Here here.................We got nothing but "Old Hat" left wing idealism in which America isn't viewed as a nation of individuals but as a collective. I am an individual thank you Mr President regardless of your radical leanings or the way in which you sell it!

  • His rhetoric is using a word like "change," which can relate to just about anything, and is flexible. But for the most part, people who were on the Obama bandwagon were sheeple, so you could have said anything and they would have cheered. A lot of these people were low income, uneducated folk who can't tell you what the two houses of congress are.

  • @onixz100 In other sections of his speech, you see contrasting and juxtaposition i order to emphasize the "change" and "goodness" he can bring. He also uses poetic language to create imagery and fill your mind of tranquil, cute thoughts.

This works because he also has visual cues going on as well on his placards, given his campaign hired a very professional and effective branding / identity company.

  • when did he the speech what year?

  • @samra890 January 26, 2008.

  • Survey: "Enterprise Mobility Solutions" check on deltecs.com

  • da sind doch mindestens 30 souffleure. nein, wie heißen die die absichtlich klatschen anfangen...

  • why is he so charismatic.

  • HEALTH CARE PASSED TODAY.

If you have any problems with this,

they should be taken and casually shoved, right up your ass.

  • "He almost sounds like Martin Luther King?"

Almost is a very big word and a very, very big gap, and miles away.

King stood for something. I don't know what this guy stands for. And I betcha, no one else does.

I mean, listen to his speech. What is he really saying?

Where's "this is what we are going to do. A, B, C and this is how we going to do it and WHEN we going to do it.

Notice, he never says WHEN in his speeches.

You knew where M. King stood for. Why he stood for it. Not Obama.

  • @offthehook2 thats cos he dusnt stand for anything, he kneels for wall street and aipac, simple tricks fool simple minds i guess

  • @rednekbnp Yes, I think your right mate. His first meeting he had was for AIPAC. I wasn't surprised either. What was dissappointing which wasnt a surprise too, is straight away, with AIPAC he's all over them, kissing, and saying "Long live Isreal," and all that.

Jeesh,. USA is enough trouble as it is to start that kind of talk. I'm dissappointed that time has gone by and he hasn't kept his promise. Remember his first talk about getting troops out, wrapping it up. And..nothing. It's still going.

  • @offthehook2 at last, somebody that speaks sense in youtube world, you know theres soo many loonies on here man, anyhoo, wipac are too powerful, they singlehandedly own the whitehouse. he promised 30billion american tax dollar monies to israel for its relentless attrocities. obama is directly involved in 2 illegal wars, subsidising a genocide against the palestinians, showing beligerence to iran, and bombing pakistan and yemen..nobel peace prize has lost all credibility since zionism bought it

  • @rednekbnp unfortunately Obama can't do much. He promised on Iraq with troops out. He didn't due to oil companies. Same with recession, he couldn't because he don't own the banks. So instead, the idoit imposed the health reform, as "unearned income."

But "unearned income," is passive income, earned by businesses, investors! So he taxed the very people who need help! Average person won't know because they ignorant on financial literacy and the real game. The banks rule the world.

  • Must. Obey. Beck.

  • i don't mind republicans doing their little propaganda thing on youtube... fine... but SARAH PALIN? YOU OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND? SHE HAS NO BRAIN. SHE KNOWS NOTHING. SHE IS STUPID, UNINFORMED AND HEARTLESS. WAY BETTER REPUBS THAN THAT

  • Obama FTW!!

  • As he reads the telepromptor his mastery of tonality does an effective job of

    NUERO LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING

    the sheeple of America.

  • With each passing speech I become less and less impressed by his supposed talent for speechifying. All of his speeches sound the same. Robert Frost said if you could overhear one of his poems and not hear the words, you should be able to tell what it's about by the muffled cadence alone. This guy doesn't differentiate one iota. Poor speaker, when you get down to it. And a worse president.

  • i sense an invisible evilness..

  • Key Words: We('re) - setting up an us-versus-them band wagon scenario.

I think it says more about people's proclivity to "group think" than anything else.

  • doesn't effect me..

  • This man is the best public speaker alive today. His tonality, body language, message, words, imagery are all on point.

What a difference to George Bush.

  • that's why he looks good. same down-tone intonation at the end of a sentence, and speaking of sentences, they are empty. lots of rhetoric. much of it lifted from speakers he's admired. i'm not trying to trash the guy, but seriously, counting politicians among the best speakers, JFK excepted, is folly. to me, a good public speaker can speak from the heart, on a variety of topics, not from a teleprompter. he's a newscaster, period.

  • yes he reads a telepromter like few men ever have-----he's still a politician & his promise of change was bullshit

  • what the hell who would ever vote for him hes going to end this country in war blabla oh please what has he done so far health care which is really bad hahaha yup and everyones talking about the swine flu shot but why doesnt the president take it

  • he is using strong emotional triggering like desire, change, believe, dreams.

  • agreed.

i could eat a hundred of his speeches for breakfast, and not gain a pound.

    empty calories.

  • bahhh...bahhh....bahhh...sheep me think

  • Change has truly come. Change for the worst.

  • He almosts sound like Martin Luther

  • how euphoric they are, they moan, cheer and boo like sheep in a pen. The common man cant look outside of his french fry and this is why we are facing totalitarianism straight in the eye. It will come, only because people have forgotten how to utilize their intellectual faculties.

  • yes, yes, yes!

the only reason why these charlatans say what they say, is because the content (rehashed, repackaged, repeated) has been shown to cause people to react. those emotional triggers that rygrystaldrigrist talked of. every single politician uses the word change. what's changed is us. we are being lulled to sleep. take your country back, my american brothers and sisters. wall street and the banking elites need to be taken out back and capped at the knees. a good old-fashioned whooping!

  • What persuasive techniques did he use? If I wanted to simply watch Obama give a speech I would not have done a search on "persuasive techniques".

  • Well: he wanted to say the time has come, and he says someone else said it; "we have the most..." etc is an invitation to jump in the bandwagon. It could go on, there's a lot of meaningless bullshit that puts normal people's brains to sleep.

  • Comment removed

  • @Isosceles1 you have to decipher them.. I believe... if you can notice, he opens his mouth wide, talks paused and loud; moves his hands... etc:P

  • @Isosceles1 I'm not a student of rhetoric but i'll give it shot.

First, he employs roughly 3 ancedotes (personal stories), which are intend to be an argument by pathos (emotion). Here's an example 3:15. These stories are intended to appeal to your sympathy. He then moves from these past tense problems to future tense solutions: 'they CAN'T do A, and they CAN'T do B, so we NEED to do Y, and we NEED to do Z" The rhetorician hopes your emotions will get you to concede the present tense language.

  • Hard to explain policies to the voting masses that hardly understand english... best stick to vague "good people" want "Change"

  • This man is great! Take a real look America. The rest of the world are with this man, you have nothing else.

  • A proper man can also have a silver tounge, and should, for people to hear his word.

  • i know what your talking about, hes not the man you assume he is

  • this was just a look at a speech, no analysis at all.

  • lol at 2:06ish the sign is upside down

  • and at 0.48

  • so..?

  • why not

  • He's talking about 'our leaders couldn't get it done'. He's one of them you sheep! You can improve the quality of your children's education by showing them that it's a priority and if you don't make it one, you're going to end up making it harder for yourself later. We can all afford health care if we make it a priority to improve our lot in life. That is the real challenge to America. That is real change you can believe in. He's asking us to believe in the government!! What a joke.

  • I'm gonna get a great speech writer and practice reading in a persuasive way so I can convince people to vote for me in 2012. If he wins, the U.S. will be desperate for a change again. Instead of "Yes we can!" my slogan will be "No he din't!" Vagiants 2012!!!!!!!

  • why are people cheering before he even says anything worth cheering about???

  • caught up in the excitement whats even more annoying is when they clap consistently at every single pause in speech. I men he just takes a break to breath and there are like two or three people clapping like crazy. Hope he wins though

  • He talks and talks and talks but does not actually say anything.

"HOPE" does not change crumbling schools.

"Change" is not a solution to anything except underwear.

Government "REFORM" has actually CAUSED the crumbling schools - who exactly have been in charge of these schools to make them crumble - the Goverment - that is who.

  • you mean he preaches and preaches and preaches and doesn't actually say anything.

the people lap it up (testify, brother, testify!) and nothing changes. he stands for nothing. shrillary stands for nothing. mccain stands for nothing.

this is the most frighteningly dull crop of candidates in some time. lawn chairs on a stage have more to say.

  • i'd rather vote for someone that moves me rather than trying to manipulate me.

  • you should vote for Hillary then...she can dodge sniper bullets

  • than not then, idiot.

  • ok than... be an asshole lol

...as if word misusage and spelling errors makes me a bigger idiot then a hillary or mccain supporter lol

  • it is a typical faux pas, but in this case, then is correct.

    better then than than.

  • oops. he did fuck it up in the other text.

i can't believe so many people don't know the difference between then and than.

guess that's why they vote for people who open their mouths and spit out drivel written by others, thinking that they are being represented.

    listen to this garbage speech.

it's been recycled a gazillion times.
