That drill was quite rigid!! Better than some people's drill in my regiment now haha. And @Patrick2536, drill instructors mainly use Duff of Elf Ritt. Depends on how loud and proud ur drill voice is.
You want to try being in Guards Training Company, 2 Btn, ITC Catterick. The instructors words of command are more or less impossible to decipher. Its just about learning when to do things and react to the noises.
The tall lad at the front left as you look at the squad is th 'right hand marker'. all dressings are taken of of him. so depending what direction your marching, its dressing by the left, or right, whatever side he is on.
And as for 'left, right left, right' one of our sergants used to shout "quick march, lo, cha, lo cha'
scream your bollocks of it works quite well. we called him fast eddy.
"By the left" simply means "take your dressing from the man on your left". In layman's terms, that means "keep in line with the man on your left". It could be by the right, or by the centre, depending on what you're doing. For instance, if a body of men are wheeling (turning) right, the right-hand file would become the markers, so the command "by the right" would be given.
@Vaughn805 wow just read the comment that you are in the canadian army cadets, is it good there? Do you wear those hats instead of berets? :-) Im in the atc gonna join the acf maybe if its any good
at 36 seconds, the instructor said " By the left , quick MARCH! LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT RIGHT..." instead of "by the RIGHT". It depends on the position of the right marker.
Well, two things. They will get better over time and the second thing is, I have heard much better use of the voice and the commands from what sounded like better instructors when I was in the Army. (The British Army I hasten to add).
the timing in drill are changed how-ever the person wants it to be, my CSM yells " 'Eft, 'ight, 'eft " aslong as the cadets know what he means its fine
i am a drill instructor, what he is actually saying is "left, right, left, right" in order to get them marching in time. the tone and volume of the command makes it sound different.
