  • Sweet!!

  • this song needs to be sung every 15 minutes in alabama since they are throwing out the people who are working cheap and helping us have cheaper groceries and buildings

  • Thank you Arlo, for remembering (and reminding us of) the life of a wonderful lady, and also reminding us that "folk songs is serious!".

  • If two or three hundred of us happen to wander into the nearest INS office or Border Patrol location, sing a chorus of Deportee and walk out again...what do you suppose might happen?

  • @elcowcowb it would become a movement!!

  • oh no! i accidentally hit dislike and i LOVE this! there arent any dislikes, just me being too tired to be online!

    i did hit like.

was so honored to see arlo his beautiful family in modesto california a couple of years ago. a highlight of my life for sure.

thank you for the music and the message!

i was born in '68 and my kids all know your music and the meaning and are carrying it on.

    thank you!!

  • Damn! Our bodies have grown old, but I guarantee that my spirit is still young and willin to put up a fuss, when called for. We need more people like Arlo, Mary Travers and Bob Dylan to sing and say what they believe without regard to the media or corporates, we did it before we can do it again. I hope to see another true uprising before I go, it will let me know that America is still in tact and working for everyone. Come congressman senators thru-out the land, Words to live by.

  • I'll always miss Mary. How did she do that hair flipping thing? That was fun. Thanks to Woody, P,P&M, Bob and all the folk singers that made us look outside ourselves. Thanks Arlo............We almost need to protest now!

  • Amen.

  • Yes you can fell his heart in this clip,Im Aussie 1951 my older brother had an old reel to reel and was in love with Mary Travers so I heard a lot Peter Pual & Mary.......I dont want a pickle, just want to ride wy motorsikle.

  • I'm a long time Arlo fan, have seen him at small venues over the years in Seattle and Tacoma and he always makes me smile and warms my heart. Great Memories.. Thank you Arlo for this tribute. Mary use to sing a song called All My Life's A Circle and its such a truth for me. Pete, You,Peter, Paul and Mary all are part of my life from the 60's till today. Thank you.

  • I would like to dedicate this to Jan Brewer and all those who favor the AZ immigration law.

  • Seeing Mary as kid in the 90's is one of my treasured memories I have. I grew up around camp fire to the songs her sweat voice once sung. The spirit of folk will carry on around the campfires of the world.

  • These times, and then they need papers. Maybe if these people must leave, we can do the task and understand what others have suffered. Mary doing this song helped me learn the story of the Migrant workers. What a gift.

  • This great song was a Woody Guthrie poem that somebody put to music. Billy Bragg and Wilco did the same with more of Woody`s poems on the Mermaid Avenue LP. ....... It is like opening a time capsule.

  • Nice memorial for Mary Travers!!. A long- long time fan thank you. Arlo you always come up with the right thing at the right time. I just love you mate!! Dad to great family heritage

  • STILL timely! Thanks Arlo and Woody and all. Sara T., a long time Arlo fan.

  • Arlo you and your family are great folk singers of the past ,the present. and our future Your family has worked hard for many, many years and have always stood up for what is right and against what is wrong in our society. Keep up the great work and take care.

  • Well done Arlo. If I knew the day of your concert i would have come all the way from Athens, Greece just to see you and listen to your music.

  • The Guthrie Family rides again. Hope they ride to the Guthrie Center this year! Nice tribute and great rendition of "Deportee."

  • Besides just Arlo being the son of Marjorie and Woody Guthrie, to the right in this video (in the white dress) is Arlo's daughter Sarah Lee. Playing guitar next to her is her husband, Johnny Irion. Johnny just happens to be a great nephew of John Steinbeck. Rest peacefully, Mary Travers, the message DOES live on. Thank you so much for posting.

  • EXCELLENT!!

  • what the .........is this guy woodie guthries son or something?

  • yep... and paul mcCartney was in a band before Wings!

  • whatever the hell thats supposed to mean !

    ps

still doesnt answer my question tho DOES IT?

  • I believe the answer to your question was...

    YEP... Arlo is Woody's son

  • thanks I Already looked it up but appreciate your answering WOW fantastic to know Guthrie lives on ! His son is great !

  • ARLO became an icon early on in his HIPPY years.. sky rocketed with the EPIC BALLAD of "Alice's Resteraunt"!

  • twowhitecrows

Wow Im not american so Ive never heard of Guthries son Arlo or that Ballad alices Restaurant is it on youtube? (Im gonna look now ) did he ever work with Joni Mitchell or Bob Dylan? (Dylan is a plagarist he virtually stole most of Woodys style and passed it off as if it was his "originality" the little shit ! )

  • Yes, Arlo is Woody's son

  • Hi, Len. This Arlo clip touches me. What a tribute to Mary! I think of the braceros I knew who were made to live in dugouts on a foetid creek in northern San Diego County, with 1930s-style gun-thugs running interference for the ranchers--and that was in the 1980s! Fortunately, Alex Cockburn and Tom Hayden put a stop to that practice.

  • Hi Folks, Great clip, Mary came to Worcester to stand for the disabled not too long before she passed. God rest her soul, Amen.

Missing ya @ Fitch State, Cmon' back soon.

    God bless,~ Dave

  • Arlo and Family- Thanks you. Wonderful- as usual

  • Simply beautiful

  • BTW: great job mixing that. Real music in case people forget what it sounds like.

  • Never fails to say what needs saying.

  • I was having a really crappy day until I watched this. Thank you so much.

  • Singingbear, your choice of music and videos is testimony to what a refined human being you are. Credit to you sir.

  • Thankyou - love the song & the message - & loved Mary travers too - a fitting tribute

  • I hope some of the memorial service, if not all of it, will be posted here! Missing Mary already...

  • Just by accident logged on and found this (was looking for some Norton Buffalo tunes). Grew up listening to Peter, Paul & Mary. Arlo, if you see this...you MUST hear the version of Deportes done by Battelfield Band (Scotch-Irish ...so not fighters). You would absolutely love the solo their guitarist Sean O'Donnell..I cry every time I hear it. I have their concert CD from Madison, WI two years ago. Switching to find some 'P,P&M'..sleep tight.

  • Amen....

  • Nov. 9th. I cannot be at Mary's service tonight but I can be here and appreciate your contribution to her memorial and her life with us.

  • thanks for this

  • Wonderful tribute to Mary from a wonderful family.

  • Great Tribute. Thanks.

  • Absolutely beautiful. One of my favourite Woody songs.

    RIP Mary

  • A beautiful tribute to Mary...

Arlo is a fine story teller..

Thank you so much again for sharing these video`s with us..

  • It all started for me with Peter, Paul & Mary...I was 9 years old...A Song Will Rise & Blowin' in the Wind are so close to my heart. I love Mary, and I love you, Arlo & Family. This song is tearing me up...

  • Wonderful. Very touching and the big singing is qwesome.

  • Thank you. Thank you. Thank you-

  • I found this video to be incredibly moving...as is always the case when music, love and family unite for an emotional cause. Here tribute is given to the sacrifices of the "deportees" as well as the lives of the strong, beautiful people (including Mary) who gave those deportees a voice. What a treasure you have given us by sharing it with us here. Thank you.

  • AWESOME!! Especially, being done by the wonderful Guthrie Family. Mary's spirit, along with Pete & Woody's..., shall never die!

  • Lovely lady. Lovely song.

  • Fully heartfelt tribute...thank you so much!

  • I ran across Peter, Paul, & Mary in the Village, summer of 61, on a trip with some friends after our high school graduation. They've been a deep rooted part of my life, and my music, ever since. Losing Mary was like having part of my own life ripped away, and I know I'm among millions.

This is a beautiful, meaningful tribute, and it stirred me to tears. Peter's note in response says the rest much better than I ever could. Thank you so much for posting it here.

    R.I.P Mary Allin Travers!

  • I always loved this album since I first got it as a kid back in the 70's! When I was listening to this version, I got this image of Woody in a camp with the other fruit pickers, scribbling these lyrics down on a piece of paper on the back of his guitar.
