@cslamon Good catch, but no, two different songs with similar intros. Both start off 1, 2, 4, 5 ascending chord progression thing. After that they go in different directions. Roy's tune has a more conventional bridge (3m chord), while "Stuffin" tune goes in a sort of jazzy direction
I followed Evan Johns the late 70's and early 80's when he led the Good Humor Band; guess you could even say I was his number one groupie... he used to sit at my table and chat during breaks. Evan - you are in my prayers; I still spin the red vinyl "Redneck Jazz" album quite often.
WOW! That is interesting. Evan Johns,on the Vox Organ. Cheesier, than Velveeta. I'll check out ,your posts.Evans guitar, sometimes sounded like a crosscut saw.Even though,it was almost 30 years ago.It still sounds pretty fresh.Take Care JD
Hello BV. Ah yes ,The Gentry,on Capitol Hill.I am the drummer.Do you have more,of that show?.Some sad news.Evan Johns,is in poor health ,right now.he needs a hip replacement, and a liver transplant.Evan ,is a great guy.Everyone can support him,on the Facebook. Thanks for the post.Take Care JD
@jdrangers yes, I have lots more from that show. I gave a copy of the tape to your bass player, Ivan, who swung by my house a week after the show. On my channel check out "Crosscut Saw", and "Danny Gatton plays his first electric guitar -- farfisa jam (?)" "Crosscut Saw" is the coolest version of the tune I've ever heard -- even w/o DG's solo, which is an all-timer. And Evan is just bad-ass -- vocals and guitar. The guy really has his own style on the guitar. I'll put the rest up soon.
I;m the drummer,in the picture. It was taken at a roadhouse, between Baltimore and Washington DC. Can you provide the name?. We used to use this tune as a warm up. For a cool Gatton interview.type in Danny gatton interview,in the Youtube search box.. Rock on JD
@jdrangers I don't where the pic was taken -- I just grabbed it off the web somewhere. The recording is from a EJ show at the Gentry in the mid-80's. Were you on drums?
Evan does the same tune on his Christmas album "Please Mr. Santa Claus". On that disc this tune is called "Stuffin' The Stocking", though that might just be the name of the tune for the holiday season.
Better yet, why don't you go to Evan's site and just ask him? He's as nice as he is talented.

@AquaKarma Good call. I'm sure you're right and it was renamed to fit the album.
I emailed Evan a while back but got no response. I'l try him again on myspace.

Danny is actually playing a Gibson ES 350 in the tune, but this is the only pic I could find of them playing together
