Why did Kenny Rodgers present them as "The Raiders?" They are Paul Revere & the Radiers. BTW; really liked the song when I first heard it, living in Great Falls, MT in the early 1970's.
@Micah2706 cuz nowadays they have no imagination, it thats not only with the music either, no offence to anyone but get rid of the useless r and b black bollocks and maybe we just might have better music
I was about 6 when this was a hit and I can remember like it was yesterday, asking my Mom to please my Daddy go help them and make the people who took their stuff, give it back! My Dad was a sheriff and I was convinced he could just go and arrest all the bad guys....lol It was the 1st song I understood and it really made me mad. Strange what memories stick w/ u forever.
Iam of blackfoot descendant. I have the high cheek bones. I wish i was alittle darker maybe like cher.my great great great grandmother was the blackfoot. My dad used to tease me and tell me i was a black toe indian because it was so far back. I do like this song and group.
Saw them at the Iowa State Fair about 5 month ago. I thought I would be disappointed to see them with out the original front man Mark Lindsay but they did not disappoint me or the rest of the crowd. They played all of their hits with the same care that I remember when I was a kid. They filled all the seats and even had people standing and watching from a distance. I took my little boy and he loved them!
@khj93play1 nice comment, great music and band, nice to see they are still cutting like they use to, rare these days with past bands, and your kid like it i bet, miss those bands and days,,,tks sydney down under....
Interesting, they are straight up NOT playing those instruments in this video... watch the drummer to see what I mean. Anyway, incredible song that I have loved since my childhood.
Back then at least few artists sang about real injustices (the Raiders , Dion (Abraham, Martin, John); Anne Murray (A Little Good News); When has Gaga sang about the sad treatment of Native Americans? ... maybe she has?? Thanks for posting .
On my mothers side of the family, before my mother passed had told me that I had native Blackfoot Sioux in my blood. One of the family members was supposed to be doing a family tree and tracing the that bloodline. My mother also told me that my great-great-great grandmother Blackfoot held me right after I was born in July of 1959. I consider that a very great honor.
@Tanitedrannis what the fuck,, you get off talkin shit to me,, that was fucken rude,, everyone has a right to option u don't like what I say, then don't read my stuff,,u need to grow up and quiting acting like a fucken jerk?! I do'nt know u, anf u don't know me,, or what I think, so fuck off!!

I love that proud native americans!!! Amen!!! Love you guys always have always will TRUE Americans! God Bless you!!! :D .......... tho I wear a shirt an tie Im still part red man deep inside.... but maybe someday when theyve learned the Cherokee Nation will return.... love that wow beautiful an ya know what I can see that happening too..... soon very very soon too...
Damn 40 years ago!!!??? Man Im old! When did that happen?? I blinked an 20 years just slipped by! Hey at least my eras music was better then now. :P Ha ha! Still love these songs :D
I love to see my Brother & Sisters from all nations write about their family history.
Apache & Yaqui Nation here. From Cherokee to Sacajawea...let us light some sage and sing great songs about our people! This song reminds me that we need to support and love one another & take care of Mother Earth!
I only wish that the song was about all tribes and not just singling out the Cherokee. I am also descended from a very famous Native woman. My great-great-great-grandmother (we can prove it) was Sacajawea, who did not die outside of St. Louis like the history books say. She went back home to her people and died as an old woman, who had earned the name Porivo (Chief Woman), and is buried at Ft. Washakie, WY, on the Wind River Shoshone Reservation. As I said, we can prove this.
I have Cherokee family by marriage. Some live in California, some in Oklahoma. I was an interstate truck driver for 22 years. I finally had the opportunity to travel through the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma. I sent the Cherokee rose to friends I met in eastern Oklahoma. Wonderful people. Study carefully the history of Echota and the Trail of Tears. The person behind it was Andrew Jackson. God Bless all Native Americans for what they have suffered at the hands of my people.
Just like the white European is dying all over the world, certain aspects of the Orientals, the native American Indian is dying out in North America-USA&Canada. However sub-Saharian blacks&radical muslims are exploding. The human gene-pool is going to be a lot more black&dark brunette by 2060.
@RonSafreed What a bunch full of BS. I´m an european whitie living in the world you try to torn apart!
Well the fact is that the orientals as you call them, like the chinese and the indian people groups are becoming bigger, faster than the blacks, and even faster than the radical muslims. If you are scared about muslims, then you should vote democrat, as the problem with radical muslims is due to the two presidents named Bush...

I have nothing but regrets as a whiteman for what was done to this beautiful country and the Indian nations that once ruled these lands. I am however great full for lasts night red moon and the 11.4k win I had at Winstar...a Indian reservation casino! Thanks!!
@junojotoo2 Me to, you live in Connecticut? It's sad that all these years and the U.S. still hasn't appologized for the atrocities that have occured on this sacred land. I just hope that one day my children will be able live amongst these great people and learn great things from them, but for now I will wait and see what the future holds.
I am a proud Cherokee descendant! I am great-great grandson of Johnson Ketcher, first full-blooded Cherokee to become a US Deputy Marshall, and great-great-great grandson of Tah-ne-yun-ta, a Trail of Tears survivor. I am proud of my heritage!
@CherokeeHeritage I am Proud of your Heritage also.. The American Indians are among the most gifted and talented people on earth. One of the most gifted Session Guitarist was Jesse Ed Davis - He played with George Harrison and many other bands. His guitar playing is among the best ever heard. Very spiritual and deep people . God bless them all.
@seth5654 If the Cherokee Nation had returned they would be in the mountains of North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee where they lived before being forced to walk all the way to Oklahoma in the dead of winter, courtesy of President Andrew Jackson even though the Supreme Court ruled the removal of the tribe from their lands to be illegal. I guess you never heard of the trail of tears, so named because almost half the tribe died on the march.
This song touches my very being. It saddens me what has happened not only the Native American but, to every culture that has been destroyed by another. And I do believe that through every culture there is much to be learned. And hopefully we can learn to be at one with another. My great great grandmothers people and her ways have been all but, washed away. And sadly I cannot even find proof- that has been washed away as well. No matter, this is a good song and thought provoking.
This song is just about the acceptance of who you are and the ability to be just that. All this negative responses just show that you have never really listen to the song. When we accept ourselves and ohters, only then can all people be free to be themselves in a united and different cultural world. And the last time I looked and listened that is what the Bible and the different American Indian Nation have said for centuries. WHEN WILL WE EVER LISTEN TO OUR FOREFATHERS.
nice song, with deep lyrics, what a mind to put it all together. lets give the man the credit not the group john d loudermilk sit in the balcony have a rose and baby ruth then you can tell me goodbye
hey hey WildManWillis1 i am not even part indian by creed? but i have this burning spirit and yearning for the entire earth to be blessed by your customs and traditions, alway part redman deep inside of me thatz the truth mr WildMan Willis1 chief sir, i pause and bow my head for the whole indian world amen PEACE PEOPLE!!!
My Cherokee heritage goes very far back. My great-great grandfather, Johnson Ketcher, was the first full-blood Cherokee to serve as a US Deputy Marshall. His father, Tah-ne-yun-ta (Running Deer), my great-great-great grandfather, was a Trail of Tears survivor. I also descend from Chief Oconostota of the Cherokee Nation East. I am proud of my ancestry!
@CherokeeHeritage heritage my dick. your ancestors are the ones that killed all the natives you bitch ass white man. i'm so tired of hillbilly oakie mfers saying that they're indian. fucking bitch ass white man.
@CherokeeHeritage you think you're cherokee cause your 4th generation white man grandfather raped an indian woman? just cause you raped them and made them have your white babies, does not make you cherokee. bitch ass mfer.
@TestMiNuh jeez, a little bitter there dude. You don't know what really happened in the guys family. From what he's written I'd say that yes, he is indeed part indian. If you are, your ancestors would be ashamed of you. You're definitely no warrior or wise man. You're an angry little boy. Man, I relate more to the indian way of life then you and I'm not even indian. I just respect their ways and their ways don't include being a foul mouthed, bitchy little boy.
@lasktguy thanks for telling me so much about myself that i didnt know. i may not know what really happened in the guys family, but do you really know who i am? you are quick to judge just like me. you're doing exactly the same thing to me that i did to the last guy, and this little boy is old enough to fuck your fat white wife in her ass.
@TestMiNuh I didn't tell you what you don't know. You know exactly how bitter and angry you are. You're just not able or willing to change. You don't know what happened in that guys family but for some reason you insulted and ridiculed him. And yes, from just the two posts you made you've made it very clear to me and probably others who you are. Everybody judges everybody. There's nothing wrong with that unless you do so just to hurt someone as you tried. And sorry, you're still a little boy.
Always luved this song ,it takes me back toSydney Australia as a kid, now i have a little grandson who is a little cherokee from canada, we luv him heaps.
@brutallyhonest123 American television shows made performer lip synch. It is unfortunate because talent didn't have a choice at the time. Often they do sing live on British shows.
Damn Asian Men came across the great ice bridge and killed all the wild life off,, Mammoths, saber-tooths, those giant sloths ... Damn, they had no respect for nature... But SHHHhhh,, don't tell anyone know we migrated here too and that we left death and destruction behind everywhere we went,, we'll just keep letting the White Devil take all the blame,, It's the politically-correct thing to do,,, and it makes me feel good about myself, too..
@Mike1614b spoken by a true white man, that is why the nation is going to pot, if your people wouldn't have come here this country would've been better off!!!!!!!
While the look is admittedly younger, the voice of the gentleman introducing them at the beginning of this video sounded EXACTLY like Kenny Rogers (pre-gray & white!)!
Singer looks messed up...Awesome song....But was the drummer some guy they pulled outta the crowd? its clearly dubbed as most TV show performances were in the 70's...(1:18) & (1:30)
AWESOME. Sorry I've missed Paul and his current "crew" in concert with Gary Puckett. He's still just as "Full of beans" as he was back then and is a true blessing to still be able to go see, just like Gary.
GOD BLESS THEM ALL AND THEIR DEAR LITTLE GREY HEADS!!
One of the classic rock tunes for all time...what lyrics, what great muscianship...not a pop song for certain, but it has been viewed that way...too much good going on in this music for it to be pop...it is a rock and roll classic and legend...thank you Paul and your Raiders....you have left your mark on mankind for ever...and for the good of us all!
@impalahead315 Its what trying to tell ppl, that white eye folkd been using indians for quite some time and what I was explaining, that white ppl sing this song, you can tell they arent indians cuz they look anf act white, no Indian features I see, so whats the deal...another thing is Indians have no kind of respect they deserve...we indians need rights too...its hard getting things done when thesr white eyes take adventage of our land and take things just think we should have rights like all.
@jaunPowerball, you know this song is kinda cool, but I understood mostly ppl. Can be half breed...like me I am, part Indian inside and out side...you know that?
@45HATTIE That is something to be proud of. I wonder what you think of so many people now claiming Indian descent? In the past the Native American people were treated terribly. Now it seems like half the American population is claiming some Indian blood.
@JuanPowerball I know what you saying... Especially the Straight white looking mothafuckas, and the Blacks...I mean You are what you are, don't fake being something your not..but u know people love to act like they are something that they are not..Nowadays you gotta have documented proof, like an Indian Status Card..Usually Given to a person who no less than Half Native Indian,All the way to The FBI'S..Full Blooded Indians..
When I was a kid, my family lived for 3 years in Shiprock, New Mexico, on The Navajo Indian Reservation. It was Incredibly hot there. I wonder how The Navajo survive in that type of climate; I barely could.
on page 8 jrregan comments on the "synth finger" at the end of the clip. 1. it's a Hammond B-3. 2. Paul is mimicking the action of the leslie spooling up. Paul always clowned around. And why not? On tv they apparently always lip synced. Anybody know of any live performances?
@45HATTIE AWESOME COMMENT...lmfao...Wabi Oshkinjig(white eyes)That's My Language,Algonquin, Are Ignorant To Our Culture (most of them)..And Alotta the whites don't Even Show us Sympathy for what happened to Our Ancestors..500 Year Resistance..Red Power.. We don't Die,We Multiply..We The Indiginous People,Own The Western Hemisphere....Signing off....The Indian Outlaw...
White men are so stoopid.. Making a song about indians...but good lyrics I must say, you clowns know Indians dont do shirts and mix match bell bottoms....
@45HATTIE You are fucking dumb. The lead singer of the band is a quarter CHEROKEE dumb ass!! Go comment on something else you know what the fuck you are talking about! And before you try and make some stupid ass comment about me and me just being another "white man" or some kind of dumb shit, I am 1/2 Shawnee myself so stfu and go away shit break.
Of course this was the original studio recording. They just lip synched to it. The drum track had some fairly complex licks in this song. I doubt that the drummer in the video was actually the same guy who layed the trak in the studio. Or he wouldnt have looked so lost
@WildManWillis1 Yes this is true that all men are all brothers, but sometimes brothers kill each other for money and power. That is the main problem with the situation.
This is such a classic song/where has all the good music gone!!! Such a great tune!!!

CherokeeHeritage 6 months ago
@CherokeeHeritage heritage my dick. your ancestors are the ones that killed all the natives you bitch ass white man. i'm so tired of hillbilly oakie mfers saying that they're indian. fucking bitch ass white man.
TestMiNuh 6 months ago
@CherokeeHeritage you think you're cherokee cause your 4th generation white man grandfather raped an indian woman? just cause you raped them and made them have your white babies, does not make you cherokee. bitch ass mfer.
TestMiNuh 6 months ago
@TestMiNuh jeez, a little bitter there dude. You don't know what really happened in the guys family. From what he's written I'd say that yes, he is indeed part indian. If you are, your ancestors would be ashamed of you. You're definitely no warrior or wise man. You're an angry little boy. Man, I relate more to the indian way of life then you and I'm not even indian. I just respect their ways and their ways don't include being a foul mouthed, bitchy little boy.
lasktguy 6 months ago
@lasktguy thanks for telling me so much about myself that i didnt know. i may not know what really happened in the guys family, but do you really know who i am? you are quick to judge just like me. you're doing exactly the same thing to me that i did to the last guy, and this little boy is old enough to fuck your fat white wife in her ass.
TestMiNuh 6 months ago
@TestMiNuh I didn't tell you what you don't know. You know exactly how bitter and angry you are. You're just not able or willing to change. You don't know what happened in that guys family but for some reason you insulted and ridiculed him. And yes, from just the two posts you made you've made it very clear to me and probably others who you are. Everybody judges everybody. There's nothing wrong with that unless you do so just to hurt someone as you tried. And sorry, you're still a little boy.

@mydarlinglauren pretty sure this is a lip synch job... kinda disappointing in a way
brutallyhonest123 6 months ago

@45HATTIE That is something to be proud of. I wonder what you think of so many people now claiming Indian descent? In the past the Native American people were treated terribly. Now it seems like half the American population is claiming some Indian blood.

Especially the Straight white looking mothafuckas, and the Blacks...I mean You are what you are, don't fake being something your not..but u know people love to act like they are something that they are not..Nowadays you gotta have documented proof, like an Indian Status Card..Usually Given to a person who no less than Half Native Indian,All the way to The FBI'S..Full Blooded Indians..

on page 8 jrregan comments on the "synth finger" at the end of the clip. 1. it's a Hammond B-3. 2. Paul is mimicking the action of the leslie spooling up. Paul always clowned around. And why not? On tv they apparently always lip synced. Anybody know of any live performances?

tfurrh1 8 months ago
Of course this was the original studio recording. They just lip synched to it. The drum track had some fairly complex licks in this song. I doubt that the drummer in the video was actually the same guy who layed the trak in the studio. Or he wouldnt have looked so lost
JohnMichael52 8 months ago
This sounds exactly like the album version, so I bet the whole thing --instrumental work and all -- is "lip sync" and not a real live performance.
