  • the dude that introduced obama had me rolling on the floor. south siiiiide. south siiiiide.

  • typical Obama, a whole lot of crowd pleasing phrases, and absolutely no policies or ideas.

  • disgusting populist demagog

  • Wow, most of people commenting here don't have an ounce of intelligence. This is a 4 minute clip of one of his education speeches, NOT THE ENTIRE SPEECH. In four minutes, you're not going to find much substance or details on his plans. He just gave another education speech a couple of days ago, I saw the entire speech and his plans and ideas are very detailed and full of substance. This man knows what he's talking about and this country really needs him to be president.

    Obama 08

  • ......ANNNNDDDD exactly what do you plan to do about it? Thank you for the inspirational blah blah blah.... but where are the details of your plan? Dennis Kucinich is by far the best Democrat. He lays it on the line and cuts out the BS.

  • exactly. where are the details? Realy love Obama, but this is how he is on most issues-beautiful rhetoric.

  • Barack Obama is a man of the people as well as a politician. His answers are the most beautifully crafted of all the canidates, and rather than answer the questions in drawn out monologues that avoid the real issue or topic, he gives a straight-forward answer that is relevant and most importantly gives us his opinion on the issue as well as what he would do as President.

  • If that is a straight-forward answer then can you tell me how he plans on improving education? I agree his answers are the most beautifully crafted. Beautifully crafted rhetoric.

  • Reading these comments makes me despair for the future of America. When Obama identifies the most important thing for the future of education, funding, and the chronic under-funding which is undermining the system, people condemn him. It seems intelligence is no guarantee of success in American politics.

  • talk talk talk...no substance...like electing a black George W.

  • I agree with webby. I like Obama but I wish he would delineate how he plans on holding people accountable. You know George Bush held people accountable and look how far that got us.

  • psh. Quality public schools. I'd like to know what he was doing when he visited those schools, not asking "those kids" what they thought about the education system. No Child Left Behind is penalizing the smart kids who actually want to learn, if kids don't want to go to school, they can go to a trade school and go straight into the work force. Why make them do something they dont' want to do, and simulateously penalize the kids who do want to learn. Man, this is crazy.

  • his name isn't even American

  • LOL, so?

  • So? Fred Thompson is all American. Not a half breed who just happened to be born here and runs on Oprah's money alone.lol

  • Thompson is in fact a swedish name...

  • AND WE'LL GET A GOOD HEAD START AND LET NO CHILD BE LEFT BEHIND

    more empty rhetoric

    more political bullshit

    vote for freedom!

  • So WHAT is his stance??????? The parents and teachers are acountable? Wow.....That is truly original. Isn't that just more of the same crap that isn't working? Why won't a Democrat actually have an idea for once?

  • Obama said that legislation is need to pay so that teachers and parents can be accountable.

  • Hey homie, trust me! i thought i try that site, to see if i can really get some action and it works! its free join today > FLING-CHAT dot COM

    P54068817

  • After watching this I have no idea what his stance is on education.

There's only one reason why the USA has the best colleges while at the same time having the worst K-12 education: SCHOOL CHOICE. The solution to education is to give parents the choice like we do for colleges.

  • "rah rah" but no substance. the group he is talking to is the problem. NEA has stood in the way of real educational reform. If more money was the answer, the DC schools would be at the top of the nation. DC spends the most per student dollars in the nation yet their schools are near the bottom. wonder why? congress is the official "local government" of DC. they run the city. Mr Obama what is YOUR plan?

  • hmm nice speech but hes not really SAYING anything

  • A very positive speech, sounds good, my sister is a teacher, great speech for a crowd. What exactly was the plan, and how much does it cost.

  • Mr. Obama is wrong. Look up the "20/20 Stupid in America" video with John Stossel from ABC here on Youtube.

  • yes that's true, but teachers are paid way too low from k-12. Increase salaries will increase competition for better and better teachers.

  • I'll second this note. Mr. Obama is the next kennedy or King. I'm even a Republican, but I can plainly feel that this man is genuine and very aware.

    Love The Guitar man

  • "Socialism is one small step away from fascism"

My response is that capitalism is one small step away from anarchy.

In order to maintain a balance to a working government there must be a little of all democracy systems.

  • WHY THE HELL WAS I NOT TAUGHT DURING MY 12 YEARS IN PUBLIC SCHOOL HOW THE TAX AND MONETARY SYSTEM WORK. I COULD EXPLAIN IT TO A 10 YEAR OLD IN ONE DAY. I was never taught because the government didn't want me to know:

    (1) The FED is privately owned and a scam.

    (2) The Income Tax is clearly unconstitutional

    (3) THERE IS NO LAW requiring 90% of us to pay taxes. It is enforced, but there is no law.

  • You are clearly an idiot. Your points are ripped directly off the zeitgeist film and just like in that film, they make no sense.

    1) Where in the constitution is it expressed or implied that income taxes are unconstitutional? The Sixteenth Amendment reads and I quote "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration." Seems like a tax law to me.

  • 2) If the fed is such a scam, who do you think controls inflation by correcting rates? What about the money supply?

I suppose you think government has no cost whatsoever so we "magically" don't need to pay any tax. Well, this isn't fantasy economics and things from infrastructure to diplomacy have a price tag that has to be paid.

    n0obtard

  • well you saw zeitgeist... but I have to admit that zeitgeist is a good movie and I beleive in what it says.

  • On point number one: The Fed is autonomous. It's not part of the government, and it is not regulated by the government.

On point number two: whether or not the income tax is unconstitutional, if we reduced the size of goernment spending, their would be no need for the income tax.

On point number three: yes their is. whether we should have it or not is a different issue.

  • Words that accurately describe government schools include:

    (1) Socialist -- They are based on communist principles

    (2) Propaganda -- They teach that which is approved from the ministry of truth

    (3) Collectivistic -- De-emphasize liberty, and the individual

    (4) Indoctrination -- 12 years of brainwashing

    (5) Ineffective -- not well educated in fundamentals

  • i totally agree with you restore, OMG read lies my teacher told me (not the title but close lol i have a terrible memory) excellent book

  • The way Barack talks about the importance of education, WOW.

This man has my utmost respect!

  • the constitution was written in the 1700's. Times have changed. A lot of things in it have become irrelevant and need to be adapted to modern times. following the constitution blindly is moronic.

  • garfieldt: sounds like the Bush excuse for doing whatever you want while in power with no regard to the rule of law. didn't he call it [the constitution] a piece of paper? don't we need to accept limits, and amend them if necessary?

  • like what? give some examples

  • barack obama for president. wooowh.

  • America needs to pay teachers a COMPETITIVE salary, put a cap of 18 students per class, and make completing high school MANDATORY, for All People.

  • American Government Today has a monopoly on eduacation. If we want a real solution to our failing education in america, it's allowing more school choice meaning allowing more charter and private schools. This creates more accountablity for teachers and administrators rewarding the good teachers and getting rid of the bad. This also creates more innovation in Teaching. The contries that have the better education always have more school choice. MORE Government is a problem, not a solution

  • How incredibly refreshing it is to hear a leader who knows how to speak and is charasmatic.

  • Obama, Thou shalt nt give UP!!!

I like the way you handle it!!!!

  • Personal accountability? Our country might have been built on it, but it sure hasn't been sustained by it in my lifetime. Government "putting it's money where it's mouth is"? State and federal governments have been throwing money at this particular problem for over 40 years just HOPING it would go away; a lack of funding is not the problem here. I agree that, on the whole, we need a leader that can unite, but on this issue, we need a leader with a coherent plan.

  • at least he does not make promisise he can't keep...and he says a lot less crap than the other canadates.....Obama '08

  • He really doesn't say much. I expected him to talk about problems in education policy (he's a politician!) and his strategy for solving them. "All of us have responsibilities" is not a very elaborate (or sound, imo) strategy. As good of a man as he may be, but I'm not convinced that he knows what to do, as a politician, regarding education.

  • snkkerz: He is basically saying that the latest trend has been to hold teachers accountable with "No child left behind". But teachers alone can't do it. Specially if they don't have the support and/or a fair salary. Teachers should be held accountable once they get what they need to succeed. You are hearing him talk but aren't listening to what he is saying.

  • LOL, what does being a school teacher have to do with running a country???????

    Vote Barack Obama in 2008

  • I'm convinced, he must be good if he has the support of someone named dawg with a bird sex video.

  • u idiot obama is the most honest person in the race and he doesnt take money from big corporations like other candidates. he is the best person and the best thing that happened to this campaign

  • why does he keep saying southside

  • This is the bulletin he read:

My name is Jaime Heras. I'm 14 years old. I'm a murderer. I have no face. When you look at me you'll die immediately. You have 900 seconds to repost this or I will visit you tonight.

  • They just sit & watch them deteriorate. The people need to unite & attend the city meetings & voice their opinion. They make to many excuses. I'm from California & I'm a black male, I've been seeing this since I could remember. I say these sorry inner city folks need to focus on their community. They need to fight for change for the better. Then they'll c progress.

  • Obama is telling the truth. Everyone has to b committed to make our public schools better. Politicians can only do so much. Parents' need to do their part n raising their kids. It's not up to the teachers & politicians to raise kids, it's the parent's jobs. Why do u think schools n wealthy neighborhoods r kept up & has up to date materials & schools in poor neighborhoods get the short end of the stick? It's because the "inner city" people don't complain about their schools. (cont)

  • +1, everyone has to step up

  • "Politicians can only do so much"

    True

"Parents' need to do their part n raising their kids"

    True

"It's not up to the teachers & politicians to raise kids, it's the parent's jobs"

    True

  • "Why do u think schools n wealthy neighborhoods r kept up & has up to date materials & schools in poor neighborhoods get the short end of the stick?"

b/c those parents privately fund their schools while the kids in the poorer neighborhoods depend on the government

"It's because the "inner city" people don't complain about their schools."

    That's not true!

  • Sounds like he's speaking small talk. No real substance. Just talking around the real issue.

  • Bush's talk on WMD isn't? And the American people fell for it everytime...LOL!!!

  • Obama, while you have been Illinois senator the cost of gas (4-homes) has gone up almost 30%, electric bills have gone up almost 30%, phone bills have gone up almost 30%. While you were supposed to be at work- working for us, you were on Oprah promoting your book. In Illinois, cars older than 95 are no longer required to test emissions, Chicago schools are in severely poor condition, and the list goes on. If you can't handle the job of senator, why should anyone vote for you?

  • As a resident of Illinois, I am aggravated that Obama voted to spend our tax dollars on rebuilding a football stadium instead of spending the money on schools like Chicago's inner city, where kids are missing things like keyboards for their computers. Sure he created union jobs, but only temporarily until the project was finished. Education is what is missing, not a remodeled football stadium, supporting a sport that pays it's players millions of dollars every year.

  • i agree

  • Great Point!

  • I can't wait to see barack obama in the white house

  • Where in the Constitution is the federal government given the power of public education?

  • Just because the federal government doesn't have authority over education doesn't mean the federal government can't participate. They can't tell states what to do, but they can provide money and resources for things like educational R&D. I agree though that NCLB crossed this line.

  • Hmm... A very similar argument was made in foreign policy to get the U.S. involved in southern Vietnam as mere "advisors" ... The role of the feds always expands once a foot is in the door. As appealing as B. Obama may be, he is for the expansion of federal power.

  • By the way, this "our kids" thing is pure socialist rhetoric, something that sells well to the socialist NEA.

  • The education of "our kids" benefit us all. The idea of a public education system for free that everyone supports is socialist anyway and no one gripes.

  • So, what is your position on NCLB. Hillary came very clean on this tonight. By the way, I am an Obama supporter. As a public school educator, I believe NCLB has done far more harm than good. Please tell us what your position is on this.

  • There is a lot more he's said about education, you can see a lot of it if you put 'Obama education' in the search bar. Most important to me that he's said is coming up with a set of new assessment tools.

I saw on their website that, in some number of weeks ,he's going to be coming out with a comprehensive education policy outline like he did with foreign relations, health-care, and counter-terrorism.

  • Cool. Thanks Poseidon.

  • SOUTH SIDE!!!!! SOUTH SIDE!!!!!

  • I love everything this guy has to say and he definitely has my vote provided he gets the nomination but I wish he would change his health care reform ideas. It's not truly universal and keeps the profit in. Insurance and drug companies are like the Bush and Cheney of the medical world, all they're interested in is lining their own pockets. Profit and people's lives shouldn't be coexisting in the same realm.

  • It seems like a lot of Barack's policies are worked around getting the largest consensus, while moving toward Democratic platform goals.

Personally I would rather have a policy that gets more than 51% support. He has said before, we need to reach out to disaffected Republicans and Independents in order to build a progressive majority and actually win these fights.

  • Thank you for fighting for the teachers rights

  • He certainly wants the teachers' votes. They're a huge voting bloc.

  • Teachers rights? I thought it was the right of our children that we should be worried about.
