I am running windows 2003 server and a freeNAS server within virtual machines runing on a little intel macmini which has 4gigs of DDR3 memory. Even with the servers runing in a virtual machine, I can still use the mini's os x as normal, the best thing about it, its only using about as much power as 2 CF light bulbs
so, unless you serve hundreds of people, you won't need anything else, than a newer system. If you are really hardcore you can make it a dual sockes system, with a raid setup :D
What you are using are way to overkill, and energyconsuming, unless, offcause, you server your entire city ;)
That's nice Im plaini to build something similar to that in da future. But im wondering how much do u pay electric bills man thats a lot and I notice that the servers that u using r pretty old they really power consumin.cheers
i disagree. cisco are overpriced and shit! Ive build entire networks around netgears and belkins and their right as rain, but ones with cisco always seem to be less reliable
i mean cisco is one of the worlds leading products. Belkin and netgear are for the home user. They didn't support helper adresses. Port span and other stuff. Netgear is cheap for home users.
@halogenetor You aren't seriously claiming that Belkin and Netgear are more reliable than Cisco, are you? That's the most absurd thing I've read all day. If Belkin and NetGear are giving you better performance or reliability than Cisco, you're doing it wrong.
Nice. Those old proliants never seem to die. No reason to go out and spend tons of money on new equipment when this stuff is readily available, and usually for free. Its not like this is going to be app hosting. Just storage, right?
LOL! I never saw so many ancient Compaq servers in one place in my life! I thought I had the corner on the market with an ML-370 a DL-540 and a DL-740. daveoIso is right, you definately need a rack. I've got 2, a 14U and a 42U and it's the best (used) investment I've ever made. About $90 US and it makes it a lot easier to manage all the cables, power strips, etc.
Dude.. Please oh Please get a Rack for all this.. You will be much happier.. I got one for all mine for 75$. It's worth it.. Plus you can manager everything alot easier. Gots alot of equipment tho. Nice setup.
How on earth do you afford the power bill, 5000w an HOUR! do your neighbours lights dim when you watch a movie?
Have you considered replacing any of this with low power units or put any of it on autowake or the like.

EEK... based on what I get charged for power, 5000 watts run 24/7 would come to around $550 a month!
