  • MOVIE IS SO GOOD

  • Best Gracie Fields I've seen was in "We're Going to be Rich" from '38, with Victor McLaglen and Brian Donlevy.

  • I only caught the tail end of this film, so I don't know the story. I enjoyed 'Holy Matrimony' but had to watch it over several days on-line!

  • Buy it off Ebay - I got a great DVD copy there for just a few bucks. Well worth it, to be sure. ;-)

  • How on earth did they remember all these words in the days before "fool cards" and autocue?

  • I enjoy Gracie and some of her comedy numbers, but have to say I much prefer her straight singing, which as become a little dismissed comedy is only one side, which is fortunate, Gracie could sing both Formby was the king of the ditty daft songs which he should be remembered for. It would seem the serious Gracie numbers attract much bigger hits on youtube, my point exactly Formby 2 the public choose not you or I. perhaps if you posted somthing instead of talking trash We could all enjoy Gracie.

  • Please do not use these clips to conduct slanging matches, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Just think yourselves lucky that Gracie was adept at both comedy and 'straight' acting/singing and appeals to both types of audience. Gracie must be remembered as a warm hearted, caring person who faced a lot of problems during her career and was still able to overcome them and present a brave face to her public, even when at her lowest point.

  • That is a rude & unwarranted response. I think you took my message the wrong way. Your suggestion for me to post something myself is childish and I also object to being accused of 'talking trash'. Sorry smoojah, but I was not conducting or trying to encourage a slanging match. I do however feel warranted in defending myself now from such insulting conduct. The original comment 'thank god for...' was especially disrespectful to Gracie and this vid, as I think you realised in your own reply.

  • Lovely to see "Our Gracie" again, and in my home town too (Blackpool). P.S. I can see the Tower out of my window as I type this !!

  • pleasent enough but not one of Gracies best prefer Land Of Hope And Glory or When Summer Is Gone real classy Gracie to the daftness which is ok if your a george formby fan he did this thing and was known for it . this is only one side of Gracie, thank god she had othersides too.

  • Just posted it as a request, look at it from the comedy side, and don't get too deep!

  • You write your opinion as though it is fact but in fact your opinion of this song is in the minority as it was one of Gracie's most popular songs. You're also a bit blinkered towards Formby. There's nothing daft in LAMPOST or similar songs he did and like Gracie he was also capable of real sincerity. I also know fans of Gracie's 'daft' material who are not fans of Formby which also makes your statement a wee bit daft itself. Can't argue that the young Gracie's operatic voice was superb though.

  • This is my all-time favourite Gracie Fields song and film scene. Together with George Formby she was certainly a force to be reckoned with in the British movie scene of the 30s and 40s.

  • Thanks again for posting this! If anyone has the film 'Keep Smiling' or 'Smiling Along' as it was known in America, please, let me know ASAP. I'd give my right arm for a copy of it!
