  • in the cel phone version, after this, a new set of 256 levels starts.

  • Triple rock smash!!!! YES :D

  • wow look at the garden, how developed it is at round 255! lol

  • @therealrockondon dig dug came first in april of 82 and mr do came out in december of 82

  • Lol, that was a nice "One Stone" at the end.

  • 255 is the last level because it is FF in hex so it resets after that.

  • I applaud your skill.

  • @AlmostTokyo

For me, it was the other way around.

  • i have only gottent o like 18 or something just fore the gamerscore

  • I can only reach to level 56 and i thought that i was close to finishing

  • No The End music

  • I like how the last enemy's like, "WOAH, Ok, I'm outta here!'' xD

  • In the original, you could never finish it 'cause an enemy spawned right above you on the ground so you could never reach it, which means you lose because you can't kill that enemy.

  • how many millions were you at?

  • 255 is the largest hexidemical number, a format that many eight bit games were based on.

Essentially, to arcades, NES's, and Gameboys, 255 was the largest number in existance, which is why so many things would crash afterwards.

  • Ive only got to level 40 before I quit

  • Nicely done! I used to play this. I have a gameboy and an arcade game that has this on it. It's a shame that I don't play it... But now I'm goin to grab that game and never let it down till I beat the last level :3

  • one time I completed level 3 with only 1 boulder

  • first of all, its on Xbox Live Arcade?

second of all, that was AWESOME!!!!!

  • @thefenixfamily 1. Yes 2. Thanks

  • did u mod ur highscore

  • wow nice one at 1:00 to 1:03

  • in the original dig-dug for atari at stage 256 there is a "Kill Switch" which means on that round there is an enemy right above you that moves down and instantly kills you but i guess on the xbox 360 they removed the Kill Switch....just thought that was interesting

  • @898031 Yeah, exactly. That is why I made this video to show that there is no kill screen on the XBLA version.

  • @AlmostTokyo what does stand XBLA for?

  • @lucas66568 x-box live arcade

  • @898031 It is a kill screen, not a Kill Switch, and also the enemy is placed right on top of you, not moves down, and that is ONLY on dig dug, ex. Pac-Man has a split-screen with garabage on the right side.

  • @FlareOfDawn but level 225 realy is sad

  • Oh my God, I love this game! Nice job at 999,990!

  • Creuser creusé.

  • @mhks68 my highest is level 17. the darn dragons got me because on that level they both are connected somehow.

  • and that kids is how to waste your life

    good job anyway

  • ive only made it up to level 12 in this game

  • no way? how long does this damn game go for? ive only mad it up to about 50 when i was like 12 yrs old

  • very good player

  • Definitely remember this game at the arcade. Does anyone know the name of the one where it looks like a tunnel in perspective with a spider like object moving around the outside of it (which was controled by a dial) and you had to shoot at the objects coming towards you before they reached the end. The graphics were just all lines.

  • @skyferret1 It is called Tempest. Great game by the way. Spent a lot of money on it in my youth

  • @primus628 Tempest, that's it!!! Thanks Primus, I knew some one out there would know. I too played it in the arcades back in my younger days. I guess I forgot the name because the 80's is somewhat of a blur to me. LOL.

  • Ah, the good ol' reset, you play for a VERY long time, costing ALOT of small coins, to beat the final stage. :)

And then it resets, and you realise how pointless it was.

  • hA!

  • preferred elevator action

  • @hoth260 Yeah, I like Elevator Action too, and ... Mappy... and BurgerTime ;-)

  • Damn you 360. Give us back our kill screens!

  • 1:00 is pure win.

  • i love all classic arcade games, back when you actually had to go to a pizza joint have some quarters to play.....now we got the luxury of sittin home and inviting friends over for a game of Halo or Gears lol

  • Listen close, sound familiar? You can hear my first XBox 360 getting loud on it's way to a RRoD about 6 weeks later. :-(

  • @AlmostTokyo whats rrod

  • @991woot119 The Red Ring of Death is the how the 360 lets you know it is dead or about to die.

  • @AlmostTokyo oh I saw it in a smosh video and thought it was joking since I couldnt find it on wikipedia

  • YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEssSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  • who just made a thumps up on BVL135????/

  • @BVL135 are u retarted?????

You have never seen this game before.

My dad said he loved to play this game and it was real. SORRY

  • Dang, so you're one of the handful of people to have gotten a 999,990 on the XBOX Live version of the game; Congrats. Sooner or later I hope to join the ranks...

  • Thanks. It's good to see that some people have an interest in classic arcade games. Keep on gaming (and composing)!

  • @AlmostTokyo Hot Damn! I love a classic arcades cabinet games but I suck at them. My hat of to you sir!

  • lol.well done. my fav game wen i was boy growing up in a small island.(millport)i used to play this all the time.round 31 or 32 my highest.

  • nice

  • I feel bad for the other people in line waiting to play the game too.

  • LOOL

  • Put your quarter up and you can play next game. :-) j/k (BTW, this is XBox 360, not the arcade game.)

  • Wow you're really good at Dig-Dug.

  • Thanks. Just takes practice, like OoT for you.

  • epic finale

  • Final destanation at 1:01.

    They never stood a chance.

    :'(

  • Sorry philosopher, but Dig Dug came out in 1982. In '80 the colors, resolution, etc. weren't this good. In '80 you would have been playin' Asteroids! Oh yeah, see that quarter up there, I am next.

  • OMG NICE TACTICS IN THE END

  • i was 1980 champion at Dig Dug. pookah and fygar were my mortal nemesises. i dropped rocks on their heads and filled them up with air until they burst! lol. I was the MASTER! playing for hours on one quarter. I won a Tuxedo for getting high score for the semester. I wore it to my prom...wait i didnt wear it to my prom, i didn't go to my prom. i wore it for halloween and mardi gras. it's all coming back to me now. Damn Fygar! I doubt though that I even came close to your score. Want my tux?

  • oh im so sure

  • what round is pineapple???

  • The pineapples start at Round 18.

  • why does it say round 1 in the bottom right and why is the score so low?

  • it says round 255 at the bottom

  • This video was posted only to show that there is no kill screen on XBLA.

  • How do you start on the last level?

  • It's an option on XBox Live Arcade.

  • if i remember right it was 200 and somtin level of Pac-Man its buged up on the arcade so its unplayable half sides a maze the other side is a bunch of junk scrabled all over the side i forgot what they called it but they named it somtin and i found all this by shearching pac-man ghost names

  • Yep, Level 255. 8-bit processors (the ones these games were made from) cannot hold in their register a value more than 255, so they roll-over back to 0, thus causing the error.

  • this man is a dig dug beast

    i bow down to you.

  • no bowing... it just takes practice.

  • are you a JW?

  • does the 255 thing work on the PCC version?

I've only gotten to level 25 anyway

  • I haven't played any PC versions of Dig Dug, or MAME, but I think the patterns are basically the same and only the original arcade version has a kill screen at Round 0.

  • 4 enemies with one rock?!? damn you're good

  • dude, ive done that many times!

  • what round is the peach, can you please reply.

  • There is no peach in Dig Dug. Are you thinking of Ms. Pac-Man? The only thing close to that color and shape would be the garlic on Rounds 12 & 13.

  • sorry, i mean what round does the eggplant appear in.

  • Oh, okay. The eggplant is used on Rounds 6 & 7.

  • thanks man :)

  • what round do u get the pineapple?

  • 18 i think :)

  • nope i tried

  • Yes, that is correct. The pineapples start at Round 18 and continue until game over.

  • well do u have to get to 18 without dying cause i selected stage 17 and got to 21 and no pineapple showed

  • Hhmmm... if you drop 2 rocks on any Round after 17, the pineapple should show up.

  • wierd i doesn't =(

  • 1:01 P W N !!

  • I LOVE digdug, and galaxian and pacman and space invaders i mean theres something that they have that modern games lack. theyre simple yet chalenging. its a pretty good feeling to get that good at it XD maybe your more into the newer stuff, and havnt taken time to apreciate what games used to be, but theyre worth atry

  • Yes, I like new games more, But I downloaded a few weeks ago a 12 years old streetfigther game in the PS store, and i like it too for 15 minits (on PSP or PS3), but after that i want to play Killzone 2 or bf heroes again :)

  • :D at least you can say you tried the "oldskool" games and well thats ur preference XD and klillzone 2 is an awesome game

  • Damn dude, you're a pro. You did that quicker then I can do level 1. lol

  • wow, you killed all the Fygar and Pooka in the board with 1 rock! nice!

  • So thats what theyre called! Lmao Pooka

  • Round 255! Wow you rock, great job! I love this game.

  • someone got really bored i can see XD

  • someone else got really bored too i can see XD

  • oh and by the way, that was incredible! =]

  • Thanks.

  • hmmm.. can we get a post on the easiest way to dig through a whole level? im sure it comes easy to you. i just still need a decent pattern

  • Ah.. the purposeless "Dig" achievement. That would be a long, long pattern. My advice is to take out the Fygar and 1 Pooka, walk completely thru the ALL tunnels even the ones without any dirt AND across the top - basically walk every place that you can walk. Try to make horizontal rows where you can because they move slower in that direction. With practice you can learn how to keep 2 of them behind you or even go through them by inflating them without blowing them up.

  • This practice is important because when you're left with just a few spots of dirt you need to keep them at a distance while you finish off the board.

  • thanks! ill give it a try

  • now i know how 2 get 4 enemies at once. im gon try it

  • ooohh ooohhh get the eggplant get eggplant

  • ok... ok... but it's actually a pineapple. :-)

  • Wow. Amazing. The farthest I had ever got was 37.

  • That's good, certainly much better than average. The game speeds up around Round 36 so if you can modify your patterns it will take you to about Round 64 (I think) when it speeds up again.

  • I used to dream about entering that world and programme the fygar(s) to be more difficult to kill.

  • I agree, those guys make me so frikin mad, especially when u tryin to get an achievement!

  • 1. How on earth do u have the ability to get dat far 2. how do u not get board doin it over n over again 3. nice move on level 1 with da rock

  • 1. Lot's of practice in the 80's 2. I don't get bored because it's a challenge to create and run patterns. In latter rounds there isn't much room for a mistake so you have to be consistent. 3. Thanks.

  • wow your good

  • i just love namco games they all rock and the killscreen are cool a little too.

  • its funny when you get an extra life b/c it sounds like a mcDonalds commercial XD ba da da da da

  • You can't win.

    Seriously, you can't win!

  • man your awsome at this, i thought i was great cause i could get to level 22

  • I've only ever made it to level 33... xD

  • wooooooooow

  • can YOU dig it?

  • nice joke!!!!!!!

  • wow thats better than me i cant even pass lv 1

  • >.>

  • You couldnt get that last man though on L255 - he got away !

  • Ah, Yes... I let the last Fygar (fire-breathin-dragon-thingy) escape.

With 2 Fygars left, the most I could have gotten for those is 2,500 points. I pulled one Fygar to the lowest level and exploded it horizontally for 1,000 points (which would have been the same value as dropping a rock on it... and much easier) then I dropped the rock to unlock the pineapple, which I did get, for 8,000 points.

So, I chose 9,000 points over 2,500 points. It is possible to get 8,000 + 2,500 but it's not easy.

  • Woo!

  • Lol omg!!

  • lol, dig dug is sweet

  • I was thinking about playing Dig Dug to level 255, now I don't have to

  • 255 is the highest level in alot of old games because the level number can't get higher than that. FF is 255 and in base 2/binary it's 11111111, and the number can't go higher

(unless you did something like 00000010 00111000 or 02 56, but that would just be 2 56 and probably wouldn't work)

The level 256 you people see probably really isn't level 256, but just some random memory the game scrambled together.

Sry if I'm wrong with anything

  • there are 10 kinds of people in this world, those who understand binary and those who dont.

  • lol

  • aha XD

  • lol XDD i get it

  • LOOOL! nice one!

  • You're pretty much right z3ekeezzz. Back in the days when memory was sparse, many games allocated 1 byte to record this info. If they had used 2 bytes instead, you'd need to play up to level 65536 to see the Dig Dug killscreen.

  • uhmm, this is proving this is NOT the original basically shouldn't there be something called a Kill Screen? instead of a restart of game? lol

  • Exactly. I made this video to answer the question about the maximum number of rounds and to show that on XBLA there is NO kill screen, which is stated in the "About This Video" section above.

  • Can you add the rest of the levels.??

  • my record is level 10 lol

  • how do you make it start on round 225?

  • Sorry for the delay, I don't visit this site very often. Anyway to answer your question if you haven't figured it out already... On XBLA you have an option to start on the highest level you have reached which made showing the rollover easy. (You can see the option if you pause the video above at the 2 second mark.)

  • To start on Round 225 you need to get to Round 225. That is how it works with Xbox Live Arcade (and MAMEs too).

  • on round 256 a glich happens, a video should show that

  • how did you get it to start on lv255? xbox?

  • Sorry for the delay, I don't visit this site very often. Anyway to answer your question if you haven't figured it out already... On XBLA you have an option to start on the highest level you have reached which made showing the rollover easy.

  • wooo nice quad kill

  • oh hahahahah i loved this game when i was smaller

  • and one more thing, how did u get it to start at stage 255?

  • when i got to lv73, there was only 6 big flowers and the rest little ones. ????

  • i hav dig dug, and i know each flower stands for 10. even the yellow ones.

  • Whats a kill-screen?

  • A kill screen is a level in old arcade games that cannot be completed. Level 256 is often a kill screen, because of 8-bit games. Usually in a kill screen you will die without doing anything, but for example in Pac-Man it's just a glitch level, which cannot be completed.

  • Hey, whats a kill screen?

  • spiritomb I think each of the bigger flowers represent 50 so if you would count it all together you get 255

  • That's a really good idea jbdew14 and it makes sense but actually the larger flowers stand for 10 rounds as spiritomb suggested. As for using flowers to indicate the current round, the maximum display is 68 (I think) and then it resets at 100 and 200. It's just one of those quirks with old arcade games that carried over into XBLA.

  • shouldnt there be like 25 big flowers at the to??? oh and i only got to lv55 on GBA version

  • The last level is really 256 but it's impossible to play it since you die right away when you get to it.

  • On XBLA, as you can see, it rolls over and keeps on going just like MAME.

  • Dig Dug fue uno de mis favoritos, que buenos tiempos aquellos!

  • yo tambien!

  • You let the last Fygar get away!!! Nooooooo!! lol

  • Yeah.. He can run.. but he can't hide! ;-)

  • how did you get 999,990 without losing a game?!

  • Not sure if I understand the question but on Xbox Live Arcade the settings only allow 5 lives maximum which makes scoring 999,990 a little more difficult. ;-)

  • whoa your good which one of the three are you on the leaderboards

  • #3 Almost Tokyo

  • I bow to the dig dug master!

  • at least in dig dug theres not kill screen or game crashes like pacman and donkey kong

  • O_o
