THIS IS FROM GUINEA, CONAKRY THE LAND OF ALL BLACK FOLKS. I HAVE SEEN BETTER THAN THIS THERE WHILE GROWING UP. THE BEST DRUMMERS AND DANCERS ARE FROM THERE. THOSE KIDS ARE AN ASSET.
Interesting you should say that... the acrobats perform with Circus Baobab, which is an off-shoot of Cirque du Soleil, featuring jembe music and West African dance.
It is with sadness that I report that Boka Camara (jembe soloist in this video) passed away yesterday, April 12th 2009 from Malaria. He will be remembered as possibly the greatest, and certainly the most imitated, jembefola of the younger generation. Thanks Boka for the music and inspiration!
Hello how do i get in touch with those acrobats, the guys that cab blend his body. wow they are great , i might want them to work for me...Regards..Xavier Thimo
ok. kierzorz, capoeira is an art of defense and deception, where as this is simply a display of gymnastic skills and flexibility. besides, the capoeira tradition originated out of angolan culture... not guinean culture...
You're both wrong. Capoeira came from many different sources and it's not a Portuguese word. Capoeira music honors several tribes, Jeje(Guinea), Angola, Ijesha(Yoruba), Nago(Yoruba), Male(Mali or Muslims in general), and many others. Each of these tribes contributed to Capoeira's developement and anytime I see it parent elements in African it makes me smile.
The video doesn't even try to claim Capoeira but everyone whose familiar with it sees the obvious connections. Then they accept or deny.
