This song just brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it!! It may just be my fav Gladys Knight and the Pips song............ You can't fake singing a song like this---she lives it!
i was 10 went this songz came out and the movie.and it is sad that people who listen to hip hop or rap know nothing about these back in the day songz and it a really great song and really enjoy it and the movie of course!
@ourgirlprofile202 there are SOME hip hop producers that truly LOVE this type of music, and use samples of artists like Gladys Knight (the Claudine Soundtrack has been sampled before)...the problem is that NOW in 2011 producers and artists who do respect the old school and try to incorporate it are getting kicked to the curb by the record labels...labels just sign/promote this half rap/half techno garbage that has no soul- we need music like Gladys's to stay around
@ourgirlprofile202 u might have the generation gap a little messed up because i know alot about this right here not everyone who listens to to rap is a baby "76"
Many parts of this film was done on Edgecome Avenue just off of 140th Street, Harlm, NYC. Reminds me of when we were ALL together. Black people standing together through the stuggles, enjoying the small victories as they came. Thinking seriously of going back to Harlem, as I miss it so so very much. Listening to this song makes me want to go back even more. Remembering those innocent times of 36 or so years ago. Wow! Songs like this are not made today. Its a shame.
I was 12 years old when this came out.....running up and down South Orange Ave,Newark,NJ just happy and totally carefree. I thank my parents so much for allowing me and my siblings to be kids when we were and not putting adult issues and weights on our shoulders. I surely got some happy memories to look back on.
I didn't know Curtis Mayfield wrote the songs for this sound track. That just shows how large his contribution was for the uplifting of his people. As a black woman I felt so empowered and inspired by the music.
I'm just glad i lived during this time when music was music! Singers, musicians doing their thing! This music make my soul HAPPY! The texture of Gladys voice with her signature "Ay - Ay - ay, Ay ay ay yeah" . . ..... and the harmony of the PIPS. I feel SO sorry for these kids today who are hung on on CRAP, sorry, I mean RAP! So sad THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT WE FEEL WHEN WE HEAR THESE SONGS! I always TELL MY 2 KIDS that their generation MISSED real music!
The "Claudine" soundtrack was written and produced by the late Curtis Mayfield. He also was responsible for the soundtracks of "Superfly" and "Sparkle" which included the hit "Giving Him Something He Can Feel".
@Sharone326 did u see the movie awsome, reminds me of my 5 siblings we actually lived this, welfare, hiding shit, struggling, and my mom always was playing the 45s from claudine, kinda sad for me when i hear these songs but things are better, just the good old music has left , but thanks to youtube we can still enjoy
@gamagan1 Not only saw it-purchased it. I love it-movie and sountrack. Diahann Carroll and James Earl Jones had some of the most real romantic scenes. Touching and beautiful.
JUST HEARING THIS MAKES ME SMILE THINKING ABOUT OLD TIMES BACK HOME IN ST.LOUIS PLAYING STREET CORNER GAMES LIKE FREEZE TAG, RED LIGHT GREEN LIGHT......AND ALL THE NEIGHBER HOOD KIDS PLAYING IN THE FIRE PLUGS WHY UNCLES , AUNTS AND COUSINS SIT AROUND BBQ AND PLAYING CARDS THOSE WHERE THE BEST DAY'S.

me and my mom and grandma all went downtown to see this movie and this beautiful song which is most definitely my favorite song by gladys and the pips. i guess we were trying to make a happy home even tho sometimes thir were problems we did the best we could. this was in 1974-1975 when i had a good stable home life. i must try to bring that back this year after all these yrs of being homeless.
so glad you have this on here this was one of my favorite songs as I was growing up and still is....You just dont know what kinda memories it evokes as i listen to it
I love , love , love this song! It makes me think of making everything all good for my baby when he gets home. Like you can accomplish anything together. A feel good song!!
Claudine.....Make Yours A Happy Home! I love this back then I was only 5. But I remember the movie and the album playin in my home. I grew up on her. Claudine was a soilder. She didn't break wit all them kids. I wish it could be a part 2 wit her grand kids. But would that mess up a classic..... Yeah I think so.... Claudine Team.
