my tractor goes 7 mph 7 th gear (yea this bitch has a 7 speed, a rare one too!) and it can pull my dads truck with a 2 ton trailer on the back with no problem!

i will change out that gear to a smaller one

@CCDProductions change the pulleys to steal pullys and not the cheap aluminum one your using, and change your engine pully you will get a lot more speed that way

hey i have a 1979 continental with a Briggs 8hp and my gearbox only has forward, neutral and reverse. my trans pulley is 6" and my motor pulley is 2" if thats helps. what can i do to make it go faster. a lot of people are telling me i cant make a vertical shaft mower go any faster than stock. but i think they are full of crap. can somebody help

you can make any mower go fasteryou may to be able to wit your single speed but put a bigger pully on the engine and a smaller one on the transaxel

there are two things you can do....you can increas the size of the engine pully.... decrease the size of the trans axel pully... also you can increas the tire size... on my tractor i put larger wheels ... car wheels in fact.... and i put a 4.5 inch pully instead of a 10 on the trans axel ...

What I'd do if I had a chain driven rear engine rider is keep the pulleys stock. That way you don't need to run the gearbox faster than it's emant for, and so it'll last lon ger. Instead just take advantage of that lovely chain drive and put a tiny strocket on the rear axle :D

Yo man! that is some awesome stuff. Thing has to be fun. i have a simplicity cavalier or something along those lines, and its practically exactly the same. same perless trans, and engine/chain belt setup going on. maybe simplicity had this company make them for them. but weve been ripping the beast appart, because we're going to try to build some kind of go cart/buggy thing out of it. put a bigger engine, and get a wider axle for the rear, on leaf springs, and suspension in the front.

drench it in wd 40 and tap it with a hammer while pulling on it. when it starts to come out wd 40 it again and tap it up again. then pull down while tapping, and repeat until it comes off.

you can tip it over, you just have to make sure you tip it on the side where you fill up the oil. if you tip it towards the carb you'll be fucked and have a hard start, or no start at all.

i went through 3 belts geussing the size i need. i geuss you could take somme rope and rap it around the pulleys and measure it that way. i have no brakes or suspension. making a racing lawn mower is very dangerous. they are very high center and will flip. i already flipped it doing donuts. don't make one unless you have health insurance!
