  • I've been listening to different versions of this song, each good in its own way, but find I prefer the version of the songwriter, Eric Bogle. He also wrote "Waltzing Matilda", another moving song about WWI. What a talented musician! He levels a well deserved indictment against war. If only everyone were required to listen to these songs, perhaps we humans could regain our sanity and stop committing the mass suicide known as war.

  • Eric wrote a beautiful song and can play that guitar, but I have to say that Finbar Furey sings the version that brings a tear to your eye.

  • In 1983, I bought a vinyl record from a store in Melbourne which contained "No Man's Land" and it was Eric Bogle performed under the group name "The Cobblers". I tried to obtain this version in digital format but failed. Anyone who likes this version which is "live" should try to find out more. Thanks to Eric Bogle, he is a wonderful singing Scot!

  • slower arrangement than what I'm used to, but alright I suppose.

  • What a wonderful song this man wrote.

  • very angelic voice

  • Nicely done! I like!

  • o my god what a voice ! ='( <3

  • SAD THAT THE IRISH GOVERNMENTS UNTILL NOW WERE NOT INTERESTED IN THEIR OWN MEN WHO DIED SO BRAVELY IN THE GREAT WAR..Always remembered by your comrades in NORTHERN IRELAND..lest we forget

  • Hey folks! Just remember, without the songwriter, there would be no argument over "The best version" They are all good in my opinion. All of the versions are just slightly different. They all add their own special take.

I'm just glad that Eric Bogle found these special lyrics, music and emotions within himself to share with the world.

I think that this song should be played 10 times in a row to every banker and fortune 500 ceo at the start of every day.

  • Lawrence...I have to agree with you about John McDermott. What a powerful version of this outstanding Bogle composition ! Mossy Moran's version is quite good too.

  • It is the best version i have ever heard

  • My Respect to Eric Bogle for gracing us with this magnificent song .Thank you, Zigg

  • Hi,

Thanks for your reaction. You're absolutely right. Though both titles are frequently used on YouTubeas as you probably already have noticed.

    Hans

  • "No Man's Land" is the title Eric Bogle uses on his albums.

  • this song has 3 titles also known as green fields of france williemc brid and no mans land

  • @NSResponder It's know as "No Man's Land", "Green Fields of France", and "Willie McBride".

  • @NSResponder

No, its name is The Green Fields of France.

  • @FredPilcher Eric Bogle wrote it, and the title he uses on his albums is "No Man's Land."

  • @FredPilcher "No, its name is The Green Fields of France" The song's correct title is "No Man's Land" but various Irish bands covered it and for some reason brought it out under a different title and also made mistakes with the lyrics.

  • @NSResponder there are three common titles for this song: No Man's Land (less common), The Green Fields Of France and Willie McBride.

  • Excellent song so well performed

  • Fijne cover. Dankje Hans

  • Ya I do this one and "atbp'ed Waltzing Matilda" for Bogle songs. Have always loved them from first listen. Other than that folk rock for the 60's,70's & 80's with heavy leanings toward Jethro Tull. Oh ya Gordon Lightfoot, Melissa Etheridge & Dave Matthews too (what can I say ... I play 12 string!)

Cheers brother .. carry on. Will be looking forward to your future postings.

  • Thanks I've got one of the new LX's (778) and love it as well as a '72 Pacemaker (12 string)

Enjoyed your version of "Green Fields". I also play it but as yet haven't gotten the fingerpicking right. I'll be studing you for the next couple nights to see if I can't get it squared away.

  • Hi, The red one is a CS257 and the blue one is a CC48. To be honest, I don't know exactly what I'm doing. I play guitar for 40 years now, but never had any lessons, nor can I read music. Btw, where are you from?

    Hans

  • Beautiful job.

is that an Adamas or an Ovation?

  • Hi and thanks!

The red sunburst as well as the blue one are Ovations (Celebrity). Kind regards,

    Hans
