Yea, kicks not high enough. The XFJ were cutting it close, but with the DTB landing, it's not as bad as 90 degrees off. It is pan ams, and I don't think they brought in a bunch of China judges.
That said, not bad. Good spirit and intensity. Also stays in the spirit of nanquan because he doesn't seem so flexible by looking at his kicks. Not that it's a requirement, but it's the reason why a lot of us do Nanquan in the West. Ohh yea.
by no means am i saying that he is bad. he is quite fast, has good intensity and rythm, and has great nanquan spirit.
however if you look at some of the other high end competetors from the same competetion, they got full deductions for all their mistakes in their nandu. (which is perfectly fine). what's sketchy here is that he won the male nanquan event, despite the many nandu mistakes and the overall harshness of the judging.
Haven't seen any other videos yet. Maybe later when I have time. It is still a Wushu competition and that means... politics! I don't know if Wushu will ever have the structure or foundation for a system that allows unbiased judging and creative and innovative freedom to the athletes.
But yea, all competitions should expect this by now. He's from Brazil. Host country. They need a winner as a host.

yep.
kick not high enough for both TKFJs
heavy stumble on the one leg landing on the second TKFJ
if you look at his foot and his direction, his XFJ540 is under rotated by about 30 degrees
his XFJ 360 is under rotated by 90 degrees, as that is technically a 270...
but hey, full pts. go figure.
