  • Excellent. Very accurate. Also its got all the Kottke `Doinks`

  • @ryan9600 Thanks. Think you may mean "Oink's"?...:-)

  • Bravo! Good performance, good groove, in a word amusing.

  • wo cool man ,,, thank you ,,,awsome best version ya sound great ,,,peace

  • @rrrrockin ...Many thanks, rrrockin (great screen-name btw). ;-)

    Rgds,

    Joe

  • Nice performance

  • just a curiosity, what guitars do you use ? (the 6 and the 12) thanks.. Good execution

  • @pierofocaccia: In this vid, it's a Taylor LKSM-6. In my other vids, it's either a Bill Moll-12, or aTaylor LKSM-12.

    Thanks. ;-)

  • @Tenntoad the Bill Moll has an amazing sound and also the Taylor is really crisp. Great choice. I have to say, you show a great sensibility towards music in the way you play subtlies in your arrangements and in the way you touch the strings and you have a great taste on guitars

  • @pierofocaccia Thanks for the kind comments. I'm VERY pleased with the Moll. He is very well known for his arch-tops (especially in the Jazz world), but started building flat-tops again just a few years ago.

  • Excellent picking on this epic tune!

  • GREAT JAM BRO!

smokin, I need to learn that one,

    Manganese.

  • After I finish catching my breath, I'll just say; great job guy!

  • ***** Beautiful Joe Carpenter *****

    Kisses,

    Raíssa.

  • Very nice Joe!

Thanks again for the advice on my version.

I like those bends you are doing.

    Nice playing!

    Best Regards

    Frank

  • I'd die to have your picking hand. Nicely done.

  • Thanks privettricker. I just surfed your channel & will say the same thing for your guitar collection. ;-)

    Rgds,

    Joe Carpenter

  • Awesome arrangement!

  • awe pumcockel removed his comments b4 i gots ta read em :(

  • NIce pickin' 'n grinnin' Joe!

    Bravo.

I just don't have the concentration any more to try and get good at fingerpickin'.

  • I love to play this song while I'm plugging away at the keyboard, and your version is fantastic. Pure fun coming from my speakers. Thanks for sharing!

  • Many thanks...and glad you liked it. There's more on iTunes if you're interested.

BTW, like your nick on here. ;-)

    Rgds,

    Joe

  • Very strange, you pl are playing it close to Kottke, but you sound a bit like Fahey. Nice!

  • Thanks Andreas.

    Rgds,

    Joe

  • I like it,

  • lovely ! for the groovy approach very close to leo's 5stars

    ciao

    gio'

  • Gio';

Thanks bud. You've do a very faithful reproduction of Leo's older style/version of LSET.....and do it good too. ;-)

    Rgds,

    Joe Carpenter

  • thank you, but really, i can't understand how he accents his own picking, his today's subtle groove is beyond my grasp, you know.the LSTE version on the ryan, that in the tv studio... (and -honest-...i didn't even hear or appreciate the difference way back then...) just wish i had some time to crack it...

    ciao...

  • LOL....I hear what you are saying! His syncopation & groove is second to none, in my opinion. But that's why he's Leo.....& we're not. ;-)

    Rgds,

    Joe Carpenter

  • x xx -actly!

  • Yep, Leo's original recording of this tune were faster. But as I noted in the info/notes section above, "My take is slightly different, so that can be good or bad. ;-)". At the same time, Leo plays it at a slower tempo these days. Whatever floats your boat.

None of Leo's recordings of this tune are on a 12, but I've seen him do it live using a 12 many times. And he kicked ass with it. As the saying goes; "He's Leo.....and you're not." ;-)

    Rgds,

    Joe Carpenter

  • Yeah, I know the exact vid on youtube you're talking about (the Japanese one). Like I said, his "recorded" version (ie: album or CD) is on 6, but have seen him live on the 12.

He had to change his style due to right arm & elbow problems from his aggressive playing style of that time. Thus the change from using picks to no picks.

    Rgds,

    Joe Carpenter

  • agreed

  • 1pumuckel1.....No, Leo doesn't play with picks these days. What vid are you looking at to make you say this? Right off the bat, I would have to say it is an old vid.

But I agree that some of his older tunes sound better with picks.

    Rgds,

    Joe

  • 1pumuckel1....just exactly what kind of drugs are you on?! I can promise you that Leo is not, and has not played with with picks in years! Seriously.

    Rgds,

    Joe

  • Joe, I'm pretty sure you are correct on this. As I understand it Leo hasn't used picks since around 1980 or so. Holy crap! That's almost 30 years.

  • 1pumuckel1....then post your photo! Until then it's all BS.

    Rgds,

  • 1pumuckel1....What exactly is your problem? You make a far out statement (while managing to be a real prick about it at the same time), then say you have a photo proving it. Yet you refuse to show your photo.

At first I thought it was just your English (I noted early on that you're German), however I now believe you're a simple youtube troll. And low-rating a video simply because you don't like what I'm saying just proves such. Stop acting like a child.

    Rgds,

    Joe

  • Smooth!

  • look at you all happy with your guitar and shit good for you man good for you :=)

  • Nice Joe

Just like back in the day! Remember! They don't play that tune in Central City! ;o)

Just ran into yer vid while surfing around the Kottke Videos. Whoda thunk it. Sounding great!

You still do the tab pigs?

    We should talk sometime.

Check my channel if ya get a chance.

    keep pickin'

    Chris

  • Holy shit....great to hear from you Chris! I was just thinking of you the other day. Loved your vids of you opening for the Asylum Street Spankers....kick butt good!

    Best Rgds,

    Joe

  • LOL. Glad you liked it. Thanks.

  • Wonderful! Very great and fabulous finger picking guitar, I love your style!!!

there is only five stars on youtube, I would like to rate you with 7 stars!

  • Thanks....glad you liked it.

    Rgds,

    Joe

  • is this Drop D tuning?

  • Nope....in Standard (looks close & you'll see it's just a I IV V in the key of E).

    Joe

  • really crisp sound..very bassy and clear..sounds awsome ocne again haha nice one

  • I've been playing around with this tune, I like what you did with it, very clean.

  • Fantastic, I'm a fan of your guitzarplayiong

    Greetings from Germany

    Michael

  • Great performance, thats a really catchy tune. I'm admittedly new to this style of play and would be grateful if you could recommend some others I could listen to (been listening / workin on merle travis / chet / tommy emmanuel stuff recently) thanks, and great job again!

  • Thanks for the comment. You should check out Leo Kottke, Gareth Pearson, Bob Evans to name a few. Heck, you've already found some of the kings!

  • The best ... Wooooohh, Out comment

  • Kill 'em, Bernie!

  • that was great fingerpicking. i love that video quality also. i wish i had a guitar room like yours.

  • Wait until you've banged your head on the sloped ceiling a few times & you wouldn't want a room like this!

BTW, I clicked on your video & see that you're covering a tune by a good friend of mine...Slippery Slope, by Bob Evans. That is such a great tune. Keep it up.

    Joe

  • You version is definitely good. Love it. Nice bouncy feel.

I thought Fahey wrote that tune.

  • Nope....Sam McGee actually wrote it.

    Thanks for the comments!
