  • what place did they come?

  • Good song. This was probably a couple of years ahead of its time for the rest of Europe but the winning performance by Jean-Claude Pascal for Luxembourg had the benefit of being sung in French by a big hearthrob star . Nous Les Amoureux also happens ti be a decent song.

  • Goes to show that we actually could put on a decent act in The Eurovision Song Contest. Sdaly many of todays acts just don't cut the mustard (such as Gina G and that equally as awful, novelty act, The Fast Food Rockers?)

  • Absolutely adore this song! My friend and I love to sing it with the harmonies, it sounds so pretty :) What a fantastic Eurovision entry!

  • The allisons wow yes i remember them brill guys , brill voices , brill song . We cant turn back the clock of time ,and sadly things alter, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse . The allisons will remain locked in a timeless frame forever . For you the allisons that song will live on . A winner yes .

  • Thanks for posting this great quality video that I actually watched when I was 12, although compared in the UK by Katie Boyle.I have never grown tired of this brilliant song, lovely melody, perfect diction and no need to have a microphone to hold as today !.In the top 5 Eurovision songs ever, up there with Waterloo, even though Bob & John were only runners up, they should have won !.

  • this song is very very good

  • They should have won if there was any justice.

  • Hard to think I met the chap on the right a few days ago.

  • Fantastic! What price Eurovision now????

  • I was only 9 years old when I saw this on the Eurovision Song contest.I remember watching it live with my parents.I was allowed to stay up late! One of the best ever British entries to the Eurovision song contest.

  • Very nice, relaxing and cheerful song from UK that year. It goes right to my all time eurovision favourites. Regards from Serbia.

  • Great song and I'm proud to be able say John is a friend of mine

  • we were robbed in 1961!

  • 1961. The Eurovision song contest has progressed since then - NOT!

  • Max points for great song and 5-star performance.

  • Incredible! This must have been before it's time as far as Eurovision is concerned. It's certainly better than Britain's recent entries.

  • ARGH! That's the year i was born, now i feel OLD!.....Good stuff, thanks for posting. :-)

  • how the eurovision changed from all those years to now...

  • cool song great vocals

  • This has always been one of my alltime most favourite songs. Thanks for posting.

  • Dark hero , please let your dad know that I have always loved this song I was absolutely delighted to hear the song and see the video .on youtube , Thank you so much . xxx .

  • Harry Robinson later did the string arrangement on Nick Drake's "River Man".

  • Wonderful song, thanks for posting. It was the first record I ever bought.

  • Hi this is Slovenia calling and here are my results. United Kingdom 10 points. 2 place

  • Thanks to Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's mention of this song, I tried YouTube for it, and was delighted to hear it again after all these years! I was 17 when I last heard it, watching in Glasgow with my parents! I've lived in Canada for 40 years, so Eurovision is a "really-long-time-ago" memory. THANKS!

  • Que lindos.Aposto que ficaram em segundo lugar. Se não fosse um acontecimento sério ainda me ria um bocadinho.

  • interesting, his name is actually brian alford!

  • The first song i taught myself on guitar! what an amazing experience those harmonies are. So emotional,,,thank you xxxx

  • sweet song, altought, it's the best of that time, for me :)

  • Should have won.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JOHN ALLISON! Yes, today (Dec 31st 2007) is my dad's 68th birthday! So happy birthday to him, and a HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all!

  • he comes into my shop!i work in binns, lincoln, people dont believe me when i say who he is!

  • Well you can tell them to look up this message to prove it! You can also tell them that his son Steve used to be a security guard at House of Fraser / Binns, Lincoln, 'cos I used to work security there with Carl Wilson (the really tall guy!) a few years ago! Me and Carl also trained in Tae kwon-do (TAGB) together when I was 18/21! Small world! (Well, Lincoln IS small!)

  • just a very belated happy birthday to john allison and thank you for the pleasure and memories seeing the video on you tube brought to me. fantastic spine tingling harmonies! You inspired me to play guitar, albeit rather badly, Are You Sure was the first song I taught myself! I have huge affection and wish you well! Kindest regards, Vanessa A Hawarden.

  • That's really nice, thank you Vanessa!

I set up this Youtube account to show my dad's videos and bring back the good old times for people who remember him in The Allisons (there are one or two!), and everyone's been really nice! He doesn't have a computer, so I show him all the nice messages whenever he visits.

I'm planning to start learning guitar myself, on my dad's guitar from 1959, and a book and DVD to self-teach! My guitar Hero game is becoming slightly limited now!

  • I LOVED The Allisons - no, I shall re-phrase that - I STILL DO LOVE The Allisons.

  • By the way, it's almost his birthday again! He's 69 on December 31st, New Year's Eve!

  • this song was the best on the night

  • Did the Allisons ever record an album and is it still available?

  • I think their 1st album was called "Inside And Out", the title of one of their other songs. I think there were two other albums, and / or including a good Christmas album from the 80's. He also gave me a CD album recently called "THE ALLISONS - ALL THE HITS PLUS MORE" (available in all good record stores, please feel free to buy it and enjoy it!)

  • beautiful song and voices ...bravo

  • The Allisons came 2nd. So close! Oh well, nevermind Dad! I prefer this version to his 80's version. That one sounds too 'western' (sorry Dad!). Hey, you should hear his Christmas album, it's great! You should be able to search it on the net. (Or I could ask him to send them out if people are interested?) He also has a CD out.

  • oh,what place this song tooks?

  • MySpaceDarkHero1:- Thanks for the reply. Regards To your Dad from me please !

  • THAT'S MY DAD! (right) Thanks 4 UR nice comments. Yeah, they should've won! Mum said technically they did win as Luxembourg got disqualified as their singer wasn't from Lux. They knocked Elvis and Cliff off No.1, and got a gold disc out of it! (Too easy these days!) Any questions about my dad or The Allisons feel free to comment! He still sings in pubs + clubs, and available for booking locally or possibly abroad. Nice to find this vid. Never seen full footage before! Thanks RaynerJM!

  • really?

tell to your dad that he has a great voice

damn those votes this should of won

  • You must be very proud of him. I assume the Alisons are brothers, so that must be your uncle on the left, correct? Does he still sing too? How long did they sing together? I'm sure you've heard this before, but they have an Everly Brothers quality about them.

  • Naturally proud. Many assumed they were brothers, originally dubbed "The Allison Brothers" but they were just friends. I can't comment for Bob. Even during that song you can see he looks at my dad for a lead 'cos he forgot the words! They only sung for a year. Bob was unreliable, and until recently tried to claim royalties for the songs when he never wrote any! My dad just needed a partner. Bob hasn't sung since that I know of. My dad found other partners to perform with, but now performs alone

  • is bob still alive?

  • Yeah, just! I know he had lots of health problems, a while ago at least. I think he's still doing okay though.

  • who won that year?

  • Whatever happened to harmonies like this?

  • For many year before they won and many years after the UK was robbed of the Eurovision and I feel and I may be wrong, by the domincance of the French Language. That has changed dramatically.

  • GREAT ala Buddy Holly

  • This should have won Eurovision this year (1961). Any chance of a recount?

  • Maestro the late Harry Robinson had a number one hit himself when he lead Lord Rockingham's Eleven with "Hoots Mon" in November 1958."Are You Sure" should have one. Nice strings.

  • Traditionally the Uk's songs are the best only because English is the traditional language of pop but alas many great UK entries have lost while poor UK entries have won

  • nie to see this again... thanxx

  • Unfortunately "contemporary" songs do not win the Eurovision - you only have to look at Irelands entries to see that.

  • This should have won, It's stood the test of time.

  • Thank's!
