@littlepocket1 ......We were in South Africa for the months of October and November, 2005; this video was in the latter of that trip, mid-November. An EXQUISITE country, South Africa is...... from surf to turf...with some of the nicest, most likable, hospitable folks I've ever met in my travels. I recommend a holiday there to all with means and desire to visit. :)

I find it interesting that the tour guide does not call the goods given by the groom's family to the bride's family, lobola. That makes me wonder if what I've read about this isn't true. Or? Also, based on what I read, I thought that the bridewealth is paid to make the marriage legal and so that the women can hold their husbands accountable? Can someone tell me what they know about these things? I find the Zulu an interesting people and would love to learn more. Thanks!

I agree totally! This fella was a great tour guide that whole day. Educational and entertaining - can't ask for more from a guide. Our whole tour group thought the S. Africans were some of the nicest and most fun, hospitable folks we'd ever met overseas. I strongly recomend a holiday in S. Africa to all who have the opportunity.
