hey mate, i know this video is old, but well done, that was amazing! i hope you get somewhere with films because you have some real talent and drive, that was emotionally haunting, like you targeted something profound, keep up the good work, lol to think i clicked the video cos i thought it was about japanese food portion sizes.
@Radrey haha really? why would you consider it immature? on a website where the most mature things are usually racist video rants or or terrible music video parodies with poor use of toilet humor then i consider this a fairly mature looking video.
@pinkfloydrgreat well, its just these aspirations seem to be so presumptuous. Perhaps that's all. If I really want what I am talking about in this video.. I have to work hard.
@Radrey Even if you were "just at kid" back then , your still doing way more than most people do in their lives, your doing what u want to do, very few people get the chance to do that, very few people have the courage to pursue an aim like yours in a foreign country, a country that isnt easy for people to adjust to either. to be honest, listerning to you talk about your dream at the end, sure you are a little ahead of yourself, but if you dont have that push to get anywhere, then you wont
@BETonthisHORSE LOL. Of course. You can use it for good and bad taste if you want. I figure if its on the internet for free its makes everything public. But of course you always have those assholes. hehehe.
but, by all means. Use any part of this video that you want.
Many of the points you make apply to me, as a writer. And I agree with you about the exotic locale, or I empathize. Location! Location! Location! Any farmer will tell you it's all about the dirt. Farming and Life 101.
sounds like he's trying to shortcut his way up the career path through some kind of cultural difference arbitrage. No wonder all my artiste friends are forced to relocate.. poor bastards. I haven't been to downtown tokyo when I was in japan but it must be packed with gringo gaijin opportunists now.
I don't know much about his movie but I know he makes something very special movie. I think he's much more famous to people like you than people like me. I used to watch night on the planet over and over again.
@123jesse123 well getting the some of the gurabia idols is going to be the hard part. Some of these girls work for san juu mon en an hour. Which is like 3,000 worth dollars an hour. But the script hasn't been written so, I dont know exactly what other expenses there might be.
I was stationed in Japan for 2 yrs at Misawa Air Base. I only knew a few words in Japanese and couldn't read or write it at all. But I felt more at home there than I do here in the US. Really miss that place. Really dig the music and coffee/creamer thing you had going on.
@strati5 hahaha. Denver or Boulder or any of the ski resorts west of Colorado is somewhere. I'm from the Springs, so unless you like Geology and Republicans then the place is perfect for you.
Ah I didn't come to Japan like a tourist 100%, only like 50%, so I'm kinda like you.. Once I came back home felt like I should be living back in Japan.. but heh hilarious how I can't come yet for a long time. Your teacher is epic O_o Well cool vid all in all (^ω^) Oh and nice video choice to talk to!
Were you in Uniqlo? Oh Buttfuck, Colorado, nice town. A lot of interesting points. I'm still soaking in my options. I feel like I don't know what to do. I'm just swirling around. But a lot of the things you said, I can relate to.
@caffinejedi Yes I was in Uniqlo. I think its important to establish what your identity here in Japan, otherwise you reach this "lost in translation" sorta stage.
Very interesting video, and indeed, I found you through another j-vlogger, but I subbed because I found your videos interesting, whether you move back to the states or not sometime in the future, I'm hooked =P
I like your attitude, don't give up, there's nothing like a dream to create the future.
Remember, brick walls are there to keep those who don't want something badly enough out, the rest will figure a way around it.
@Radrey I started subbing to a few appealing J-vloggers (which I guess hasn't changed, there's a handful that I really really watch but the rest don't really appeal to me on a creative level) and heard the name Radrey a few times over time period of time, and then one day I just typed it in.
@Radrey Wow, that's what I get for composing and editing sentences slowly and from all sides: I think that previous comment was the worst constructed one I've ever done. I think I got my point across.
I can actually relate to this. I was born in Thailand. I've been living in the US for hmm...5 years? When I went back to Thailand, I didn't feel it was my home anymore. I've always thought it was the language (since I don't speak Thai at all in the US), but I realize it's the culture, too, that does not suit me anymore. I felt like I was a tourist in THAILAND.
well radrey, a lot of the time people dont achieve what they want, they back out or something like that. But there is the occasional person who does something truly exceptional. Somebody has to do that, keep at it and you could be that somebody. Keep at it, but dont kill yourself over it
@drhikarisan yeah, your absolutely right. Some people just don't make it. Some only really make it until after they die. Some die and don't make it either (i.e. Russ Meyer).
I figure this goal I'm trying to reach for is like my study of the Japanese Langauge. I can't stress myself with it. This shit takes time, consistency, and skills.
interesting. go for it and go full force. I like how that guy explained how the industry works and how it's different. So true, it's just so different. Sometimes it's way crazy because you'll have really talented people here in Japan you'd think should be signed, they just haven't gotten that lucky break
Nice vid radrey, there's definetely a ton of unexploited content/ideas from japan that can be used in film, and more and more people are starting to get into all things Asian. I saw Old Boy for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and I think it may be my new favorite movie of all time. Not Japanese(well based loosely off of a Japanese manga).
@MGOotaku I dunno. I figured whenever I drink a lot of coffee it always puts me in this state of introspective and conducive thought. Which kinda represents the video in a way.
cool/weird/depressing vid. ^.^ I have no idea when I'm going to be in Japan at this point. Finding out if I'm going to be doing this internship or not all summer in the next couple of weeks.
