Alright, what I'm about to say isn't meant to be insulting at all, Darth Maul wwas my favorite character in all the star wars trilogy, but I've been training in the art of Wushu(kung fu) for my whole life, and honestly what he does is extremely basic, anyone and i mean anyone could learn what he's doing in a day with the proper training.

No it isn't. The most believeable sword fights in the movies were the ones in the Original Trilogy. No bullshit. No acrobatics. No double-bladed wushu crap. The lightsabers were weilded the way a real kendo practitionrs would fight.

For all his experience, I'd expect him to be able to do an left-over-right-under-right-under-left-over twirl, not just a right under-left-over. Notice that he does not alternate which hand is up in the twirl, so it's not really a full-blown dual-wield twirl. Don't take me wrong, I like his stunts, and all; still, I've seen this done better.

good question. Its hard to say though in the movie business which character is going to be popular and which character isnt, I'd say. I'm sure when designing darth maul, they had no idea how much everyone was going to like him. Believe it or not, i'm going to be personally working and performing with ray park on stage next weekend in a show at disney world. That will be one of the many questions i'll ask him, haha.
Yeah TB2001 is right- I think the problem is that Darth Maul turned out to be much cooler than the throw-away Sith that the script called for to properly set up Vader's eventual arrival. I also fully agree with the others who said Park was the right actor for the roll- perhaps the most properly cast character in the entire new trilogy.

The point is that it may be 5 minutes, but its the 5 minutes that makes the film. You can't always judge the impact of the role by the amount of screen time.

Well not really, because he isn't in control of the force, Galen Marek, Palpatine, Revan, Traya, and the Exile all gained far more control and understanding then Nihilus did, he just ate at everything that isn't control, he did it whether he wanted to or not, like how he was tricked to feed off of Telos even though it was barren, but because he had concentrated on feeding off the planet he couldn't stop, the force continued to feed off of it, he didn't want to, he wanted to fight the Exile.

I wouldn't say its limited to one specific art or style really, as he is predominantly a Wushu user I believe, I mean the body only works in so many ways really so it might be that but it is more than likely in a fair few other arts As well under a different name.
Honestly, what he is doing is not that hard. He's not even crossing his arms twice when he does the weave. This is pretty much a basic move for glowstringers. Check out my videos in my profile if you don't believe.

I wouldn't say its limited to one specific art or style really, as he is predominantly a Wushu user I believe, I mean the body only works in so many ways really so it might be that but it is more than likely in a fair few other arts As well under a different name.

Okay, hear me out, Ray Park is amazing but...
Honestly, what he is doing is not that hard. He's not even crossing his arms twice when he does the weave. This is pretty much a basic move for glowstringers. Check out my videos in my profile if you don't believe.

Probly cuz most Star Wars fans there don't know Kungfu or seen much of it hah. Lightsabers meets Wushu was the coolest thing ever when I saw Episode 1. I was pretty surprised at the theatres when I saw him fight for the first time....Darth Maul looked like he was Wong Fei Hong! (Jet Li)

He's probably like that 'cause it doesn't take very much effort to amaze geeks from pretty much every genre of sci fi and fantasy. They're just getting a hard on for the fact that it's Ray Park.
I mean, he could set up a table at the con and make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches all day and con goers would go ape shit.
But over all, he's probably not showing his real talent because in this video clip there's no point 'cause it's just a random "hey can you show us some stuff?" moment.

I think the reason he wasn't doing as well (in this video) as he usually does is because he was teaching my friend James and another guy how exactly to execute that move, so he was slowing it down a bit to help them better understand how to do it, know what I mean? :D
