you are my hero!! I just started throwing around my 40th b-day and 2 years later I'm addicted!! I wonder what my husband would say if I built a range in the kitchen??? Suzy
that looks awsome...ive wanted to go to the cold steel challenge but havent been yet....just a couple of questions maybe you could answer for me.....i see that every body is using the spin technique, does anybody ever use the no spin technique at the challange.....and is there a specific cold steel knife that everybody has to use for the challange.....i personally like the true flight thrower, only got one right now....will eventually get 2 more....but can i use them at the challange...thanks :)
@djrymple1 You can use any Cold Steel Brand throwing knife at the challenge. Everyone usually does the spin technique because it's the most consistent technique to use at a longer distance-- however, I'm sure you won't be disqualified for using no spin. Check the rules out at the Cold Steel website.
Are you going to this coming challenge? I'll be introducing the fedin system to the challenge for the first time I'm sure. Oh and Ryder lives only a few miles from me. What a shame I didn't know earlier.
@TheNickhis Oh man, I'd love to see that at the Cold Steel Challenge! I've never seen anyone try no spin at a knife throwing competition. I won't be able to make it, but if you take video though, let me know! And Ryder is a great thrower too-- I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of one of this throws. :)
@Xolette I'd love to see it too, although I'm not sure if I'm ready because 4 or 5 meters are easy to be accurate with, but longer ranges with this style require different muscles and coordination :/. I'm practicing, which is what saves you from your off-days and makes your on-days even better ha. I think my dad will record it, we'll see.
@TheNickhis I agree-- which is why no spin at a competition is hard to pull off. I just checked the new Cold Steel Challenge rules and they're going back to the 12', 18', and 24' distance. At a 5 meter distance, you should be able to nail the 12' distance, but 18' and 24' would be tricky. Also, if you are doing no-spin, realize you'll have to use only Cold Steel knives, so you should be practicting throwing no-spin with their knives. Best of luck!
@Xolette thanks! I'll need it. glad they're going back on the distance. Most of their knives are large (which I have a special affinity to for some reason), but throwing large knives with the fedin system is very different on the wrist, so this will be interesting. I bought a pro balance thrower, a large piece of work. What knives can you choose from if you don't bring your own? A good ol' sure flight thrower would be nice, but not likely.
@TheNickhis they'll most likely have their sets available-- like sure balance. Sure Flight's discontinued so those wouldn't be available. In all honesty, I was training with no spin throwing for the longest time, but that 18 and 24 foot distance was too hard to master in such a short period, so i spent a couple months spin throwing-- and I just wasn't prepared for the challenge. It was difficult going from one method to another. Stick with Fedin- good luck mastering the long distances!
@Xolette Yury did 12 meters, so it is possible. It's just the will. More movement in the hip and torso from what I can see. I wish I could read his mind and get all of his throwing secrets and tricks, but then again he most likely thinks in Russian.
@comicart1st I felt so odd throwing in an open area over grass-- oddly enough. I've never done that. I think I could've done better if I had more practice long distance-wise. Thanks for the support :)
i really wanna learn how to knife throwing but whenever i try to throw i always either it bounce of the wood or the handle hits the wood first. Does it matter wheter im use to card throwing?
@SAfreak1000 Watch my vid, "Spin vs. No Spin" throwing and it talks about the distances for handle vs. blade throw. Depending on your distance, you might have to hold from the handle or blade... you may need to adjust a few inches back of forward. Best of luck!
@wilkesncguy25 Cold Steel Throwing Knives are only allowed. The 1st and 2nd place winners were using Cold Steel Sure Flight Throwers (a line which is discontinued and difficult to find)
Ive never seen a girl with all the same intrests as me and also so beautiful and funny at the same time. Every thing from weapons, marvel comics even down to my favorite car! well kinda. I have a 2004 wrx sti. you seem like one of those cool girls who plays video games too.
@xXphilosoraptorXx Right now you're at a half spin distance, throwing from the blade, correct? Go back to around 9 feet and do your same throw, except hold the handle. That should be a full spin. You may have to move back a little or forward. Hope that helps!
@xXphilosoraptorXx It depends on witch way u throw, I like to throw with my right leg at 13 ft left at 9ft and I release at 6 ft holding it on the blade. oh if u r beginning use the cold steel true flight thrower it worked out good for me i just got 3 more because I liked the 1st one
As of today this is in my top 5 fav channels on youtube. You all seem really cool, fun, have bright happy smiles... funny.... very entertaining... yet serious about what you are doing. I would love to go to one of these competitions sometime...sadly, there are none in Miami :( quess I'll just keep standing by my tactical knives. Good vids..all of them..and please keep it up. ;)
...great job, looks like you had fun and thats what counts. I've gotten all my comrades throwing now as well, and to my suprise, some of them were already pretty damn good. We have started incorporating a knife throw into some of our weekly pistol and carbine drills where you must make an accurate throw at the start to then pick up your firearm and continue the course of fire. They all love your videos and wish you continued success.....
@Cunhajo Very nice! Are you using no spin or spin? If I HAD to throw a knife in a defense situation, I know I'd definitely miss with spinning my knife vs. no-spin. Distance is not flexible with the spin technique, whereas there's still some wriggle room with the no spin. But that sounds like fun. Had to do the same at my school, but with a bebe shotgun. :) Thank you for the comment and best of luck with the training!
@uzerofutube Nope, but then again, I know a guy left during the competition. As I said, I didn't do as well. In fact, I did worst because i was missing throws I could usually stick. But oh well. :)
@CliffStamp I have a terrible habit of underspinning because I learned how to release my knives using the no-spin technique-- but yes, it is rotating, but sometimes not enough. Thanks for the comment!
@Xolette Do you have to rotate at the challenge, as from the distances it appeared you could just dead straight throw and that is way simpler. It has been awhile since I threw, and then it was mainly distance (50-100'), but I would find it very difficult to rotate as close as those targets were.
@CliffStamp From my experience, no spin from far away is difficult, and spin (rotating) is easy from up close... well, actually, all throws are easy from up close. :) But no, there's no rule saying you need to spin the knife. It'd be interesting to see a no-spin thrower at a competition, because it's hard to stick a knife with no-spin consistently, in my opinion, from far away.
@Xolette I actually had to look up my rotation distance as it has been that long, I would throw one rotation at 15-25' depending on the knife or tomahawk. But my brother was much more accurate at such distances and he would throw non-rotation. In any case, again awesome job and I hope to see more videos.
@celestialdls You wish you trained me! Yah, that clip was hilarious. Renee didn't know the awesomeness of having to manually open the lens before recording. Very fun to edit.
That looks like a lot of fun! You get brownie points for competing! I wouldnt be able to get up in front of all of those people and throw knives. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work Xolette!
@edgedweapon88 Haha, it's actually easy to forget that the people behind me, might be watching because everyone was kind of doing their own thing-- however, my coach was on the sidelines watching my every move, which was distracting! Thanks for the comment and I'll keep on sharing! :)
@PCPAirsoft Thanks for asking-- I posted a link to the Cold Steel Challenge in the description. Tons of throwing events and fighting events. It's in Ventura, CA.

@Ether165 Haha, I so didn't get that. Very creative. That's too bad! Well, there's always next year! Shoot me a message if you're going so I can look for you. I met a fellow YouTube knife thrower (Jon Korstad) at the event as well.
@flatbreadfb Yup, Ventura, CA, once a year-- I think normally in the fall. As for my overall placement, I can gladly say I wasn't last! :) But, we only had 14 throwers I think? Very small group. Many of them with lots of experience!
Makes me want to throw. I can't though because I don't have a target. I had one but it's so chewed up that my knifes just do threw the target on impact.
@KainsVison My flat board target lasted 11 months... but I'm in the process of buidling a new one where the design will make it easy to replace any chewed up wood. It'll be of vertical 4 X 4's, but I heard 4 X 4's with the endgrain sticking out is even better. Vid soon to come. :)
@firebelliedtoad Haha, yes, I got really comfortable at my 2 meter distance which isn't really in my kitchen. What I need is a backyward! Thanks for the comment.

man i wish i was there. i didnt know they had this going on. is it in ventura? well looks like it was fun. what was your overall placement?
flatbreadfb 1 year ago
@flatbreadfb Yup, Ventura, CA, once a year-- I think normally in the fall. As for my overall placement, I can gladly say I wasn't last! :) But, we only had 14 throwers I think? Very small group. Many of them with lots of experience!

very kool, looks fun too!i enjoy your vids :)

@Xolette Can't wait to see it. I just realised I made multiple grammar mistakes on my last comment. I'm sick and not in the right state of mind.

You need a bigger kitchen. :) You are deadly at close range though! Hmmm I think I need some throwing knives.

@firebelliedtoad Haha, yes, I got really comfortable at my 2 meter distance which isn't really in my kitchen. What I need is a backyward! Thanks for the comment.

@RDPproject My twin claims that my knives made a louder ricochet than anyone elses! I told her she was crazy. Thanks for the comment!
