  • LMAO

  • thanks i was given a radian 65 which she has now been in for awhile i wont beable to reuse itas it expires in 2yrs but she should get atleast another year or two out of it i'm hoping to get a frontier with taxes and my oldest can use it until the baby outgrows her roundabout 50

  • AWESOME!!! So good to see more and more children being harnessed longer than the minimum recommendations of the seats! Unfortunately, it's sad to see a number of the harnesses being used improperly (ie, chest clip NOT at arm pits)

My 27 month old is still rear facing and my 4 year 7 month old AND 5 year 9 month old are still harnessed and will be until 65lbs (max we have here)

Unfortunately my 10 year old is way over the 65lb limit and is not harnessed due to no seats being available :(

  • i have watched a few videos for keeping kids in harness longer that state that the vehicle seat belts can fail and thats why the children were injured. I just got the frontier 85 for my twins who are almost 40 lbs and am concerned because they will be installed using the seat belt even in harness mode as our latch only goes to 40 lbs. Is there something about booster mode that causes the seatbelt to fail? Any help would be appreciated.

  • Seat belts themselves may not protect the person because they may unlatch. It can happen with anybody, whether they are a child or an adult. Unlatching happens because the car itself was in a roll over or it was hit from behind at a certain angle. In europe they have standards for seat belts saying that they have to be able to take 3,000 jolts before it unlatches. Unlatching occurs if the buckle does not have enough tension on it. read more at kyledavidmilller (dot) org

  • hi , good video with the kids in 5 point harness car seats , dont really have them for bigger kids like 12 year olds in New Zealand that know of , but would be a lot safer for them , as the booster seats only provide some protection to that of a 5 point harness inbuilt car seat . the bigger kids look a lot safer in the 5 point safety harness , maybe made complusory over here , they look comfier than normal adult seats lol .

  • i have two children 18months23lbs 31 3/4in RF in a safety 1st complete airand a 5yr old 42lbs 43in in a graco backless booster would like to have her harnessed just can't afford to buy her a new seat right now my little one was FF until i learned the benifits of ERF and if i can i will put my 5yr old back in a 5 point harness

  • @kennedy24ify try going to walmart and Checking out the Graco Natulis, it 5 point Harnesses till 65lbs, it is the one that I have my now 5 year old daughter in at 50 somthing pounds=) it cost me 178.00 here but has been on sale recently. that is a great seat because then it turns into a Backed or backless Booster seat till 100lbs. but once your daughter out grows it in weight(65lbs) you can reuse it for your youngest one as long as it wasnt in an accident=) if you realy wanted to=0 hope it helps

  • AS a tech I would like to know in many of these shots improper car seat usage is shown? Chest clips way to low on the belly, harnesses clearly below this kids shoulders when other then the radian none of these seats allow for that, and some where the harness is merely put in the top slot when there are others visible above the child's shoulders. I agree completely with your message of this video do not get me wrong, but you should show proper usage in it not improper usage!

  • Hello, could you tell me what kind of car seat is in photo number 6 the big girl is in it and thank you!

  • so britax is the best ? I have a chicco new born car seat ... which one I can use the next step ? and when ? now my babr is 4 months thank you

  • How much do these seats cost? We have four kids and my husband just lost his job and I'm a stay at home mom! Thank you and may God bless you~

  • the best booster is the britax parkway slide guard it has a croch strap which prevent a child from sliding out in a crash and keeps the waist strap where it needs to be plus its only 119 bucks

  • I think its so sad that many parents or people well put there childs life at risk cause of the way it looks an 8 year old in a car seat i wish people would look past what others might think and stand up and say its my childs life and when ppl stair tell them about belle and kyle and all the children who die a year from this so sad what has our country come to to risk a childs life b4 risking there style and the looks thanks for getting this out there we need 2 change r laws 4 our kids

  • I am looking for a car seat safety check will live at fort knox, ky please reply if anyone knows where to go, my 2 year old seat is in but the infant seat having a little trouble with..thanks!

  • The Foundation has prompted me to go out and buy 3 graco nautilus carseats for my 6, 5, & 4 yr old little girls using the 5 pt harness. My 6 yr old is now 48" and noticed the height requirement only goes up to 52", and i noticed that her shoulders are already at the top slot...Great.. I'm not looking forward to using the seat belt so early, i was hoping that she would use the harness for a little longer.. but I want to keep her safe & dont want to compromise her spine once she is above the slots

  • the Graco Nautilus turns into a booster seat after 65# and 52 Inches. The booster is for use to 100#. It is a fine booster. Be sure to read the car seat instructions.

  • @csmutz2001 Hi I know this is from a year ago but is she tall in the waist down to the legs or the waist to the head? what I mean is if she has Longer legs then she can still use it to the hight limit of the carseat, my daughter just turned 4 in June and has been in this carseat sience she was 2 and a half(she out grew the carseats that we had her in, by height first befor weight RF in my car and the one that we used only when absutly nessesery FF) and now she is 45in and 52lbs!

  • at what age and size is it ok to booster a child, We used our radian 80 with our daughter till she was almost 7 and 60 lbs, at that point she was just too tall and had out grown it, she rides in a high back booster now..

  • I would be comfortable with that as long as she is mature enough. My almost 7 year old son won't stay sitting properly in a booster, so I had to move him to a different 5 pt harness.

  • I would stay in a car seat. I am 16 years old & 4'8 tall. Would ask my aunts & unlces in Minnosta & Germany to keep my younger boys & girl cousins in car sears longer. my boy cousin Joshua is 9 years old not a booster or car seat & her lives in Bonn,Germany & my girl cousin Emma 1 years old & in a evenflo car seat & foward facing.. I have 7 & 8 years old cousins who live in Minnosta who are in Graco Backless Booster Seats & there names are 8 years with ADHD Ryan & 7 years old Keegan.

  • I am from the uk and we dont even have the range of car seats that you do over there. Britax dont do any of the bigger seats. Rear facing is only for 9-12 months and although we have to have a child in a booster till they are a surten hight or till they are 12 by law we do not get the seats to acomadate them. I would like to get Kyles mesage across over hear. Please help me to do this and get car seat companys to give us the right restraints over in the UK. You are doing a gret job. Keep it ip.

  • @chicosmisses Do you have what is called FaceBook? I know that I put alot of Carseat safty videos on the Face Book site just to get the word out to friends and family that have little ones that still could be ERF and arnt, that would be a good way to get Kyles message and even Tonies message across(she also passed away from a Booster seat)

  • half of those kids are like 8nyear olds in the carseat

  • And they are safer than the 8yr old in a booster.

  • And that would be a good thing.

  • i didn't say it as a bad thing i just said wow i mean if i had an 8 year old i would put them in a carseat i was saying it like i wish my six year old nephew sat in a careseat they just don't have room because the younger kids need their seats and the seat is a three seat thing in the back

  • i am so pleased for all the work you all have done when my girls get bigger they will be staying in a 5 harnase seat but did you know that they are trying to pass a law that children are to stay rear facing as long as possable because that is the safist

  • Our Brand new Britax just came today. We bought the Eddie bauer back when son was 19lbs and well it's been an OK seat but was before I knew about Britax and the safety ratings. I will keep son in a harness until he out grows it and then in a booster at least 9 and then after as long as he needs a boster to meet seat belt req. He is 4.5 (58M) 39LBS and 41" tall

  • you cant use any seat onse the shoulders are above the slots which stinks

  • according to Russ at sunshine kids their radian 80s can be used an inch above the harness but I still worry about spinal compression in it. We have a frontier on the way for our 3.5 year old, to turn ffing in, hopefully that will hold her longer than the radian held her sister.

  • what do you all think of keeping kids in the radian 80 when their shoulders are above the harness slots? my nearly 7 year old is 60 lbs and her shoulders are about at the top slot now, I have a Parkway booster by britax on the way, to start booster training, but has anyone used the radian 80 with shoulders over the slots?

  • i remembered i been in an accident when i was 8 years old sitting in the front. it was scary

  • I believe what your family is doing to make a diffrence in carseat safety is more then excellent. My son is riding in a BRITAX MARAHON ONYX rear faving at 2yrs old/24lbs. My daughter is riding in a BRITAX REGENT at 6yrs old and 58lbs.

Thank you and continue spreading the carseat sefety message. By the way I love my car magnets.

  • Keep up the good work!

  • You are doing a wonderful thing by sharing this important information. I see many who just rely on adult seat belts or old booster seats.

  • my 11 year old is 50 pounds and will be in the regent until she is 7th or 8th grade!!!!

  • omg 50 lbs.? y is she so skinny?

  • good for you!

  • what is this song called?

  • If Everyone Cared by Nickelback

BTW: Thanks to the youtube vids. about Kyle I know more about keeping my son harnessed past 40lbs

  • I started using adults seatbelts when I was 11.My two little sisters still in baby car seat they are 10 months old and my two little brothers are in booster sit. They are age 5 and 6

  • i started using adult seatbelts since i was 7, i didn't know that i was in danger all this time, i am 14 now

  • so many big kids in car seats

  • i know isnt it great to see that. I love seeing Big Kids in five pont harnesses. it is soo much safer for them. im going to keep my littel girl in her fivepoint harness till she reaches the 65lbs limit on it. she is going to be 3 june 4 and only ways 35 lbs so she eill be in it for a while.and then it goes to backed or backless booster till 100lbs.

  • Because of the Kyle David Miller Foundation, I am more aware of car seat safety and I am not afraid to share it with others. Thank you to the donations, my 7 yr old is now in a 5pt restraint. I am very grateful for our car seat and for the knowledge on this site. I am a mom of 7 and another on the way. We will all advocate for car seat safety by example. Thank you!

  • What's the name of this song?

    By the way, awesome video.

  • the name of the song is The Day Nobody Dies

  • or If Everyone Cared by Nickelback

  • i cant bealive this..all i have is a boster seat for my 4 yrs old that use an adult seat belt i thought ok it says it fits her so it has to be safe...i always worried about it bc it doesnt seem safe..i am now going to have to get her a new 5 point one as soon as i can..makes me so mad that i have been driving around without a better one

  • 1:55 she is so cute i love her. She really do look like my kids (girl) how cute. RIP Sweetie. All of them are so cute

  • I love this song and cute kids 3:39,3:41

  • This is a good idea, to have a Video, like this. it shows more people, about the importance of 5-point harness car seats for older kids. and also it will save more lives also. it s great, to have a program like this, where poor kids can get Car seats, too.

  • Hi; it's me again. I'm just wondering how Katie's doing now. I read the whole story on Kyle's Memorial Website and cried like a little baby. I know it's all about Kyle and getting a message to the masses, but I was curious about her.

  • Wow this video really makes me stop and think, we have a 4and a half year old, he is big for his age, and he is using a boaster seat with a back and normal car seal belt. Makes me think this is no longer safe. I am in the UK though and have not seen any seats like this here

  • In France the only harness car seat for children exceeding 18 kg is the Britax Traveller Plus ..

But the price is 1167 USD we can't afford it...

I hope that "Sunshine Kids" will sell the radian 80 soon in France...

But I think they must have an european certification to sell their carseat there...

Everyday I am afraid to put my child in a booster seat, she is five year old but we have not the choice...

  • nice video lots of stuff people should know and you have a very nice channel!

    From Brittany and Brianna :0)

  • Also because of your video, my husband researched and got a Chicco keyfit 30 for our newborn in September he can sit rear facing for two years or 30lbs. It was because of you, I keep saying it but thank you, please keep spreading the word.~Shana

  • I just want you to know I shared your other video with everyone I know a while back. And also you are the reason I went and bought two 5point harness seats w/rear anchors. I can't remember if I posted on your other video, but I had an accident in May and totalled my suburban one of my sons was only in a lap booster. Pure luck he wasn't killed, I watched your video w/i days of my accident. Thank you, for everything you are doing and don't stop we need more people like you and your family.~Shana

  • I just wanted to say im so sorry for you lost. I have a 13 year old daughter and 6 year old son. I would litterally die if something was to ever happen to either one of them. Thank you for the valuable info. My son has a little booster seat which just has the seat belt aroud him to hold him in place. I am going out to buy him a harness one instead. Good luck with everything and keep safe. Tell your daughter she is a beautifull girl.

  • my son is 4 almost 5 but whieghs 78 pounds because he is taking steroids. What seat is recommended? He is currently in a no back booster. 48" tall

  • Look at the Traveller Plus - harnesses to 105 lbs.

  • Hello, I'M LOOKING AT THE 3rd PICTURE: PLEASE TELL ME WHAT KIND OF SEAT THAT LITTLE BOY IS SITTING IN? IT LOOKS NARROW. I'D *LOVE* TO KNOW THE MAKE/MODEL! BRITAX? THANKS!

  • The narrow seats are Sunshine Kids - Radian80s.

  • Sunshine Kids Radian80

  • the problem we have in the uk is we have no choice but to forward face from 13kg and come out harness at 18kg. i wrote to britax complaining that if they can make safer car seats in the usa why are they not good enough for the uk and can i import one that would be a safer choice for my child and i was told i would be breaking the law. So why are there safer alternatives out there but we cant all get access to? why is a british child less important to britax?

  • You have two choices - go to Mothercare website and look at Britax Brand car seats.

Junior Traveller St Anton Car Seat - harnesses to 25kg - 149 UK Pounds

    Or

Traveller Plus St Aton - harnesses to 36kg - 419 UK pounds.

  • thanks for your comment but britax for some reason have discontinued these seats.

  • I can tell you guys really like nickelback.

  • why is that even relevent?

  • Because I cried like a little girl whenever I hear about young kids dieing. So my muse hit me to write a song for Kyle. And I put lots of work into it.

  • So when the 5 point harness gets to small for a four yr old Which seat comes next? mine has a high back 5 point, But also has a place for seat belt??

  • Your car seat is probably a combination seat that hold the harness up to 40 lbs and booster up to 80 or 100 lbs with the seat belt. When your child reaches 40 lbs you should put him/her in a Britax Regent or Radian 80 because they harness up to 80 lbs. Or you can buy a seat such as the Britax Marathon that hold up to 65 lbs in a harness. I imagine that you want to keep him/her in a harness longer than that though. Harnessing is much safer than the typical booster seat for a 4 yr old.

  • Use of a carseat isn't about the age of your precious cargo, but more about their weight and height. Same thing with riding in the front seat, especially with airbags. If your treasures are smaller than normal don't give in to their protests of how old they are, just tell them the reason you are doing this is because you love them and that they are too precious to you to lose.

  • first of all they arent and secondly who cares how old they are at least they are safe.

  • ok I am a singel mom with a 18 month old little girl who is 33 3/4 inches tall but only 23lb 14oz and is in a fowared facing car seat in the middel seat now that their is snow on the ground I was wonderning if I should put her rear facing again? and if so does anybody know of a good seat that wont cost to much? i paid $60.00 for this car seat and that was even more then i could afford i had her infant carseat given to me for free.

  • Please turn her rear-facing. What seat is she currently in? It's likely that you can still use it.

  • If your current seat cannot go rear-facing, try a Cosco Scenara (available at Walmart for around $40). She can ride in that rear-facing until she is 35 pounds or the top of her head is one inch below the top of the seat.

  • thank you I did that she will be two next month and I think I will keep her refacing till she out grows it that way. she likes to reface and she sleeps better in the car that way also. thanks again jess mother of Riley

  • @karlatta1 Hi I dont know if I ever got back to you way back then but, Iwanted to let you know that I did buy that seat and she rode in it for a couple of months and got to tall for it around the age of 2 and a half(she had a realy big growth spurt=) so I went out and bought the Graco Natulis and am in Love with it, she is now 4 and a half years old and still 5 point harnessed in it and loves it(she wants to be RF like her baby sister but she is 52lbs now and cant) again Thank you for the info!

  • @karlatta1 Cosco has introduced a new model called the Scenera 40RF. This seat allows rear-facing up to 40 pounds instead of 35. This seat is currently available only at Target or at amazon.com and costs $49.99.

  • How wonderful! Amid your grief you are reaching out to other parents so they do not have to go through what you have. I came across this while researching the next seat for my 3 year old. Already in the Britax convertible seat, I will now buy the Britax booster too. Please accept my sincere condolences, and may you feel the loving arms of God embrace and comfort you when times get tough. Thank you!

  • I am really sorry about kyle. i wish i could change the event of his suffering and take his place so he can contune to live on with his faimly.

may the lord look over kyle and his faimly along with everyone else who has died.

kyle will be in my prayers.

  • Ok I looked it up for my car and latch limit is 48 lbs, he is right at that mark.. tether is 65 lbs so I guess I should change the hookup to tether and seat belt for him, right? Do I really need a booster yet if this marathon is suppose to be good till he is 65 lbs and 52" tall?

  • if your vehicle LATCH weight limit is 48lbs, then you need to change to a seatbelt/top tether installation. You can keep your son in the Marathon till he is 65lbs, or he outgrows the seat by height - this is when his shoulders start to creep above the top harness slot - nothing to do with total height.

  • Is it bad then to use both latch and safety belt for a britex marathon with a 47 lb 44" h boy? I don't have the tether hooked up cause we have the safety belt. It's very secure, but I don't know if it's wrong to do it this way. thanks

  • You cannot use Lower Anchors with seatbelt together. I would switch to using a seatbelt with top tether installation. Have your car seat installation checked by a child passenger safety technician.

  • Hey, do you like the song I wrote for kyle? Nice to see you online.

  • jmwren- most vehicles have a latch limit of 40 pounds, some (few) have a latch limit of 48 pounds. This is because the latch anchors are attached to one solid bar with two anchor points (think of a barbell with weights on the ends) inside the vehicle seat. (That's the same reason why you can't "steal" the latch anchors from each outside seat to make a center latch position if it isn't meant to be used in the center.)

  • The latch anchor bar does not have as high a weight limit as the seatbelt istself, nad is not crash tested at higher weights. Maybe in the future car makers will make them with higher weight limits, but it's just not out there yet. HTH. Angela- CPST

  • Oh and what's all this hey tell us about a latch can't be used over a certain weight, is that true? I find that very hard to believe. It's still hooking you up to the car, like a seat-belt, so what could make the difference in weight ??? Some of these things just don't make sense....Anyone with me on that? My question is, are these options as safe as the regent since they offer full protection of teether and latch and yet the smaller, lighter scale of a booster?

  • My son is 47 lbs (4 yrs old) and 44" tall, he is still in his Britex Marathon like his younger brother, but it's getting tight around the crotch other than that he is fine in it. I was told as long as the top of his ears are below the top of the seat and his shoulders are below the top notch he is good. He is close but still months away from outgrowing this 65 lb seat. I still wonder if I should be looking for a replacement. PS: I have to break this up to post it all. sorry.

  • I can't watch your video without tears rolling, I was so touched that I did put off buying the booster until I did more research. I have to tell you that when I called the safe kids org they told me that they heard alot of things from this video and that is so rare. My thinking was, rare but completely avoidable...and my sons are worth everything so my not give them every possible chance to be safe. Like any one of us agrees now after learning this.

  • What about these new 5 point harness boosters with latch and teether (SafeGuard Go booster seat)& the (JANE Indy Plus booster seat) (RECARO Start booster seat). some of these fold up and are for up to 100lbs.. Anyone check those yet?

  • If you are located in the CFB Trenton area and are in need of a 5 point harness car seat for your child please let me know. I have a Britax Husky (now the Regent) with a manufactor date of 2003 that I will give to you for your child to arrive safely at their destination. I am fortuante enough that I can afford to provide these expensive seats to my children and would like to provide one to your child if you can not afford to buy one.

  • I live in Canada and despite the canadian gov'ts standards for car seats ( up to 48lbs) then no choice but to use a booster. I have purchased 3 Regents and a Safeguard seat. Regent and Safeguard seat in my van and 2 Regents in my husbands car. My kids will never use a booster seat and will remain restrained in the vehicle for every ride with a 5 point harness until they reach 80lbs. Christopher is 6, weighs 46lbs and Jessie is 3.5, weighs 45lbs.

  • I'm not too sure, because that's a long way off, but I am certain my kids will be sitting backwards until about 7, and then I think I'll let them turn around. I feel that when your a mother, if ANYTHING happens to your child(surgery, coma, fainting, etc)you automatically feel guilt(like "If I was there and didn't leave them with a babysitter..)and blame yourself EVEN if it was an accident.

    (Part 2, couldn't fit all!)

  • When I move out of my parents house and have kids, my kids will stay in the car seat until they are around 4'8 tall, perhaps.

  • my pastors daughter was 15 when she finally got out of her booster seat and she didn't care that she was in one I think her seat was pink. i agree with you that they still need to be in a seat for their age i know that I am going to keep my one year old in a five point harness untill she cant fit into a big kid harness because she is very tiny only 24 pounds and 34inchs.

  • sorry aabout kyle, all i have to offer is a silant prayer for his soul, consitering if it is okay with you.

  • I saw your original video a while back. I am in Toronto and have switched my son 6 back to a 5 point harness. However,it is getting small and I cannot seem to find a distributor in Canada for the Regent. If you know of any, please let me know. I ache everytime I think about you and your beautiful son/brother. However, I have forwarded your video to everyone I know. You really are saving lives, Take Care, Brigette Lankar

  • Hi there, I just wanted to pass along a little info about the Regent. I am also in Ontario, CFB Trenton. I have just purchased 2 Regent car seats for my kids from an US retailer. He ships them to Canada at very reasonable cost and was great throughout our entire transaction. The These seats are not sold in Canada, and therefore do not contain the Canadian motor vehicle safety sticker. . I have never liked belt positioning booster and neither of my children will ride in one.

  • Something is bothering me..on websites they say 8 years old OR 4'9..NOT TRUE. If your child is ten and is 4'6 they STILL need a booster seat. Age has nothing to do with it.Who agrees with me? I mean really..Someone needs to tell them and others that age has nothing to do with it..height and weight does..If we dont say anything than once thier child turns eight and is still only 4'2 they assume that a booster is no longer needed...right?

  • Sounds liek an awesome program. One day if I have the money I would switch over to the bigger seats. I have 3 in seats now, the baby, the 1 yr and the 2 yr old, the other 5 are just in regular belts because we don't have the seats for them.

  • what that surpises me is that there are like 9 year olds in the carseat. i am sorry for the lost of your son kyle.

  • The nine year olds in the car seat is good!!! :)

  • at 1:33, i think the chest clip is too low! Is it? Yes, it is...

  • I think children need to stay in a 5-pt harness until they are the right age and height for adult seat belts.

  • Is that possible? cuz its a really good idea!

  • Yes, it is possible..duh! In the video there are older kids in harnesses, which I think is great if you can get your kid to sit in a "baby car seat."

  • MorganandEedna....it is NOT a "baby" carseat...it is a matter of life and death!

  • Yea, I know. What I ment to say was that there are quite a few kids that dont want to sit in car seats. I am a HUGE supporter of this program. When I have kids you can bet that they are going to be in the safest car seats possible. RF until 35 lbs and everything.

  • Yea, I know. What I ment to say was that there are quite a few kids that dont want to sit in car seats. I am a HUGE supporter of this program. When I have kids you can bet that they are going to be in the safest car seats possible. RF until 35 lbs and everything

  • Same here. I'm gonna use Britax and have my kids in the regent once they graduate from RF, if they are big enough

  • Yea me too!

  • hey yur the same age as me! :) check out my videos..there isn't any of me, but there are 2 of my sister and of my sister's friend's baby

  • Some kids like to be able to see out the window and the harness makes them feel secure. Getthem to understand why, and the parent is incharge.

  • I was saying that kids still NEED boosters and or car seat and that websites and such say that kids can be taken out at eight years old...I didnt say that kids DONT need car seats...I agree with you..

  • race car drivers have a 5-pt harness in thier cars why can't normal cars, so adult have that protection too.

  • true..good point

  • i am probably gonna add some in my car

  • Thank you for all of your efforts to educate others on the importance of using a 5 point harness. I am so sorry for the loss of your son.

  • I am so sorry to hear about little Kyle. My heart goes out to you. God Bless you all! I am waiting on the part from my local dealership now, to insure proper installation for the Regent that your organization is sending me for my grandson. Thank you so much! I am so happy that you all are out there to help educate people on this very important message. Laura has taught me a lot that I didn't know about car seat safety already!

Thank you and much love to you all!

    Rhonda

  • Thank you so much Rhonda - we are thrilled that we have the opporuntity to keep your grandson safe!

  • Christine and family:

Congratulations on the great work you all are doing...you have made such a difference to so many families. We are picking up our first mini van tomorrow and will have our two boys and our newborn baby girl, Deanna, safe in 5 point harnesses for as long as possible. We think of Kyle so very often and know he is so proud of all you have done!

  • We never would have known about the Regent if it wasn't for the and the fist video. As soon as our daughter was big enough, we purchased 2 & they are GREAT! Thanks so much for educating the public about the importance of restraining our children in a 5-point harness for as long as possible!

We are very fortunate to be able to afford these seats. Yes, they are pricey, but what price can you put on your child's life?

  • Congrats on the new expected baby Christine.... I know there is nothing that can replace Kyle but you must be so excited. I am sure this wonderfull gift god has gave you will help you go on but not forget kyle.

  • Everyone of the kids that have been donated these seats (including 2 seats that were donated to my kids)have now been given a little of Kyle. His legacy will live on,through all of the kids that have been helped. I can't thank the KDM foundation enough for making every tirp in the car safer. My 4 year old watched the video, and says to tell Kyles family that she loves her new seat. I still think of Kyle and his wonderful family everytime we buckle up. Keep up the GREAT work!

  • Wonderful, wonderful work you have done! Thank you!

After viewing your original video I bought my 3 year old a Regent, and a Triumph Advance DLX, and plan to keep him harnessed as long as possible.

The Triumph Advance is also a great seat for the money. $130-150, & harnesses to 50 pounds/50 inches.

To follow up on the misuse a pp noted,a few chest clips are too low (should be nipple level) and a couple of harnesses looked too loose. (Should not be able to pinch slack.)

  • We always point out any misuse - but a lot of these pictures are taken during installation process and so usually the parents are aware and they are not using the seat as we see it in the picutres. All seats are installed by CPS technicians.

  • Thanks for clarifying. I'm glad the parents who received the seats are using them correctly. My concern was that the average parent is bombarded with so many images of seats used incorrectly, and as you know, even the best seat is only safe when used properly. Since so many people will watch this video,it would have been great if all the pictures were of proper use,but I understand wanting to be able to put faces to the kids who have been helped.

    Best of luck to you!

  • Karrie - I think the greater concern for all of us is that the CPS techs who are installing these seats are doing it incorrectly. There appears to be a wide disaprity in education amoungst the Tech community. We don't receive pictures for all of our installations so there may be some cases where we are not given the opportunity to correct these mistakes of the professionals.

  • Great point. I'm considering becoming a tech, but the fear of making a fatal mistake with someone else's child chills me. I certainly do not blame you for the mistakes, and hope it did not come across that way.

Your original video was definitely the catalyst for my car seat safety obsession. Your loss is so unfair, but it is inspiring how you have turned it into a way to help so many other children, directly and indirectly.

  • this is awesome thank you for helping us keep our babies safer longer!

  • Wow.... you have all done so much. I will send this video to all of my contacts. My heart and soul is with you and your Family. Thank You! You have saved so many lives!

  • Wonderful that you are still giving out seats. Disappointing to see so many of them misused, though. Also, you could buy a lot more seats if you bought the Radian 65s, as they are identical in slot height to the 80s for more than $100 less, and since very few children will ever comfortably and safely make it to 65 pounds in them, and virtually none in 80, it would allow you to help so many more children.

    Keep up the good work!

  • I've been told that any problems were reported to the families to make sure it was corrected when I displayed a similar concern and when I mentioned the issue of the Radian... sunshine kids gives them a discount and then with the ability to go over the top slots, they still felt the 80 was a better choice.

I also would remind everyone that even after the Regent or Radian 80 a child will still need a booster... My son has.

  • You are correct in both your earlier statements. We wish to teach parents to delay the move into a booster seat for as long as possible - every graduation in car seat is a demotion in safety.

  • Thank you for your comment. Any misuse we saw in pictures was immediately reported to the families. Please know that all these seats are installed by Child Passenger Safety Techincians who are certified to install these seats. Any mistakes are on their part, but we do bring anything we see up.

  • We also get great pricing on the Radian thanks to the manufacturer - we would NEVER like to cut a child off at 65lbs when they may have the chance to continue using the seat for a higher weight.

  • Many Thanks to the KDM Foundation for educating families across the country!

  • Awesome guys!! Keep up the Good work!
