I just got this a week ago o: Some good tips are to lower the brightness, turn off the Wi-Fi when you're NOT using it, same goes for Bluetooth. Also, try charging the battery fully then running it down just like what TechnoBuffalo said, but do it once a month or two to help re-calibrate the battery. You can also try disabling Location Services, but unless you need it, then don't. Also, disable 3G unless you need it. I always use Wi-Fi, which is way faster, so I don't need it.

Get Battery Doctor PRO app, it gave me very useful tips and tells you how to charge your phone properly, my iPhone lasts at 100% battery for about more than 20 min, if im not streaming or playing 3D games of course lol

I had a samsung freeform and i would charge the battery until it was full i would take it off for but 2-3mins plug it back in and it would take about 15 mins for it to get back full.. all im saying is all phones have battery life issues also iPhone is a small computer yes it has low batt. so buy a car charger * carry your house one with you!

@krisjhon1 did you buy it brand new or second hand? because it seems to me that that battery has been handled very badly, maybe over heated by being left on a heater or left out wen it was cold. or most likely it was kept on charger for a very very long time which also causes it to heat up

@dragracer772 Plus, if you are in a area with weak 3G coverage, its best to use Edge.

Edge will save you guys much more battery and if you are in a Edge covered area, which everyone should be, you'll have more bars, the internet may be a little bit slower, and your battery life will last longer.

With my 3G on, I would go from 100% to 90% in about 5 minutes with 3G with constant internet usage.

With my Edge turned on, and 3G off, I would go from 100% to 90% in about 40 minutes.

Turn off your bluetooth. Turn on airplane mode when you're just playing games or if you know you're somewhere there is no service (in a lot of my classes I never get service so turning on airplane mode keeps the phone from continually searching for service). You can turn your wifi back on after you switch of airplane mode if you need to. This is obvious, but bring your headphones with you, you run down the battery a lot by playing music/videos through the external speaker

this not some kind of spam message to promote a site, this really works. go to zedge / net and create an account and choose "iphone 3gs" or whatever as your phone. search for ringtones in the search bar and download. it automatically converts it to a "ringtone-file" and places it in iTunes

Turn off 3G net work if you do not need to use the web and email. You can still make and recieve phone calls, check it out. This will increase usage time.

Turn off Location Settings in the General tab. Also if any app asks to turn it on, say no. (The Weather Channel doesn't need it turned on. You can just save you zip code instead.) The only time I turn it on is when I use my GPS. I noticed a huge change in battery life after I started doing this!

kinda dumb post...im considering curve8900 upgrade to either bold2 or iph3gs...one of the huge drawbacks of the 3gs is bad battery life...but the benefit is its awesome features...and he is arguing how to make the battery life almost last a day, by turning off everything except the basic phone features...he has missed the obvious...i can extend iphone battery life to 2 weeks...fully charge the phone after conditioning it...then turn it off completely...never use it...just use your house phone?

If you switch the phone on airplane mode then you cannot receive or make calls. Only a good idea when ur not expecting calls.

Conditioning: Use the phone till it is completely dead then recharge for 10-12 hours...repeat several times or all the time if you can.

This video is so true. Just got the Iphone 3 days ago and it lasted for about 6 hours, then 12 then a day and a half and will continue to get better.

one more tip: u can turn off sounds to save battery life. Hope this helps

Ok, so I had looked this up before on my Palm Centro, & it turns out, "topping off" or charging your cell phone before it goes completely dead is better then letting it die first. It makes the Lithium battery lst longer. ( I don't mean like longer battery life, I mean like the battery lasting more years, instead of parts of the battery dieing) Especially since the iPhone doesn't open up, & you can't change the battery, you should try to make the battery last as long as it can, & not wear it out.

Thanks very much for the tips, stressing with the short battery life of my new 3GS! Just this momment its turned off due to dead battery so now have it charging for the 8-12hr calibration. At the momment im getting around 7hrs from an over night charge and have push turned off along with 25% screen brightness.

I leave my iPhone 3GS (and did the same with my iPhone 3G) on EDGE unless I know I am going to be using heavy data. Saves the battery life significantly. You don't need 3G all the time anyway.

Nice vid sir, that calibration doodah is also known as cycling and really does have a positive effect on batteries, it can also help some older batteries recover a little extra charge... unfortunately not lithium ion ones.
