@cubeproduktion tough call! I guess it depends on what you work on though. Personally I'd probably just go with the Canon, the zeiss lenses are quite beautiful but the 16-35mm is a very good lens. Also consider the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM, it's a better lens (IMO), it's faster, and it's cheaper than the 16-35
@cubeproduktion for IQ indeed the legend 21mm F2.8 T* , i have it and love it, it's my first MF lens, the color is great compare to canon, u have to test it to see the difference
Thanks for your reply. Have informed by another Zeiss user that until recently Zeiss did not coat all of the internal elements (think he is wrong) and thus more recent lenses are better.....? Well I'm not sure that even T Star coating makes that much of adifference – the lens design is after all the same – a Planar is a Planar is a Planar (etc), have a real desire to own some Zeiss glass which I have since the 1980’s when I made my choice between either a Nikon FE or a Contax 139.
@mikeismad61 Personally I haven't, but you sometimes you'll hear complain about the japanese-made gear. I'm not familiar enough with that gear to say if it was better or worse, but i know it's mentioned and I'd be curious to learn more.
You would need an 11mm lens with crop factor of 1.6X to get 18mm rounded

What's better? the 18mm F3.5 T* Zeiss and 21mm F2.8 T* Zeiss or the Canon 16-35mm F2.8 L USM?

@wwwgeekdotcom Or consider the Nikon 14-24 with an eos/nik adapter ring

@cubeproduktion You should check out Canons TSE 17... it outperforms both the 16-35 and the CZ 18 both in sharpness and AC control. Sad but true.

Has anyone seen any reviews comparing the older Contax/ Yashica ZEISS lenses and the latest Canon/ Nikon fit versions?
Now that would be interesting

The 40D is not full frame. Apply the 1.6 X crop factor when using that body.

when this lens on Canon 5D or 40D, it will keeps 18mm? or need to x 1.6? thanks.
michaeltai624 1 year ago
@michaeltai624 Those are full frame cameras so there is no crop (as their would be on a 7D or rebel).
wwwgeekdotcom 1 year ago
@wwwgeekdotcom 40D ain't no FF body, it's a 1.6 x crop factor one; just clarifying, 5D is FF though.
