Sager NP9280 laptop is around $2,800 17inch 1920x1200 Intel i7 940 2.93ghz 6gb DDR3 triple channels 1066mhz Nvidia GTX 280M 320gb 7,200rpm HD Bluray ROM This laptop will run circle around any macbook pro and is faster than apple mac pro. extreme optional components includes: intel i7 965 extreme CPU 12gb DDR3 triple channels RAM 3x160gb intel SSD RAID 0
it's great i have to say. the only bad thing is the weak GTX 280M. I hope dual SLI is available soon. why won't they license the 4870 x2 mobility is just mind baffling to me.
wooo~ i see a PC fan-boy over here who's not satisfied with mac, just because daddy and mommy didnt let you have one doesnt mean you need to convince the OTHERS not to get one, you PC fan-boy. Stop being such an immature lad. get a life
The Mac Pro has a dual-quad core Intel Xeon Processor. Eight cores! It supports up to 32 GB of DDR3 SDRAM. It also supports four 7,200 RPM 1TB hard drives (if you want capacity), or even four 15,000 RPM 300GB hard drives (if you want speed). Don't go around spamming Apple and Alienware videos, when the truth is that they're SO much better than your craptastic machines. And yes, graphics problems HAVE been reported on the new unibody MacBook Pro 17", but I'm sure Apple can get them fixed.
Umm... okay, but the Mac Pro has 2 quad core processors, and they're Xeons, not i7s. It supports up to 32 GB of RAM. The hard drives can be swapped out easily. You need to try out these systems before you come to a conclusion. You can't just randomly say, "Apple sucks!" because you haven't tried them out yet!
Macs are always overpriced and technological behind Windows PC computer.
PC has GTX 295 & ATI 4870 x2 for gaming. apple has 8800 GT
PC has intel i7 965 $1k CPU(8 cores with hyperthreading); apple uses server cpus. 2 xeon so they can have 8 cores...horribly expensive. $2100+ for 2 xeon 3.2ghz.
DDR2 is old, especially DDR2 800. $50 for 4gb. apple charges $500
1tb HD costs $87, apple charge $300
I don't blame apple charges for premium dollars, there are a lot of unread and uninformed people.
wow, for $3200....what's the point of buying this? no bluray support and no gaming.
get ASUS W90Vp-X1
some features includes:
Intel T9600 @ 2.8ghz...overclockable to 4ghz, and most important...ATI 4870 X2....yes, finally comes in a laptop. 6gb of DDR2 ram, 320gb 7200rpm HD. 18.4in 1080p screen. All for $2200 from newegg. This to me is the ultimate laptop for really good price.
You CAN play games on it. You can play even more if you install Windows via Boot Camp, which comes preinstalled with Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" and higher. It's expensive because it's environmentally friendly, big (although not as big as your laptop), and has a multi-touch trackpad that no other line of laptop computers has. You can get a 2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 8 GB of RAM. The same hard drive is available. You can also select a more durable Solid State Drive (SSD).
The Mac OS has a higher satisfaction rate than Windows Vista or even Windows XP. I don't have a Mac as my main computer yet, but I am going to get one, and this will be it. I could get another one.
Who cares if it doesn't have Blu-ray capabilities? All I want is an environmentally-friendly computer with great technological innovations including the new multi-touch trackpad. That's what everybody saves up for.
The fact is that windows pc has over 90% marketshare while mac, linux, unix, imb, etcs OS has 10% combined marketshare world wide. And yes, most of us are happy not getting ripped off. :D
WHO CARES ABOUT BLURAY? That's just ignorance. It's like a jump from vhs to DVD and you'r telling me you're ok watching inferior vhs quality?
PC=personal computer. Mac is also a PC.
I love the fact a small company thinks they better than everyone else. Marketshare say it all. 90% of people are not stupid!!
Actually, Apple is a multi-billion dollar industry. Dell sucks. HP is good. Apple is the best!
Apple was the company that invented the personal computer, which went on sale in 1976. Clearly, they have more experience building computers than most other companies. And I think 90% of people ARE stupid. PCs are for people who like wasting their time, money buying upgrades, and contributing to global warming. Macs are for people who need to save time and some green.
MAC got big recently because of OS X. Mac almost disappeared years ago. Remember how horrible the OX 9 or previous versions? I am not sure if you extreme MAC boys know but microsoft gave a lot of money to apple to keep them alive prior to OS X. Well, because they need to well their Microsoft Office for Mac.
MAC OS X is a complete rip off Linux. Well, it's a Unix core...so what do you expect. Apple cannot create "greatness" without help from Unix team.
The reason they made the battery non-removable is to make it larger to maximize the lifespan. If they made it removable, they would have to make it smaller, and it wouldn't last as long.
There is, Jillerstem. You can undo some screws, remove the bottom, and then undo a few more screws to release the battery. Finally, unplug the battery and it's out!
Sweet Firewire 800! I'm wondering how you would upgrade the hdd or RAM? Probably something you'd have to pay for when you buy it or send it to apple to have done. I still want one of the 17" MacBook Pro's, I'd get the Antiglare, and 8 GB of RAM for sure
ow do you make a non-removable battery on a laptop sound like a good thing? Dive deep—way deep—into the manufacturing and the engineering process.
That trick did wonders when Apple marketed the daylights out of its aluminum brick design on the MacBook 13-inch (Aluminum) and the MacBook Pro 15-inch (Dual Graphics). Armed with videos and images meant to wow viewers, the company showed how a thick slab of aluminum is molded into thin notebooks.
Way less than half the price and they throw in a blueray player. Anyway, job buys my macs so i don't have to worry. U know vista isn't as bad as they say!On the right machine.

why don't all computers or anything else, run on rhose photo light thingy things that even cheap calculaters run on?
mt75270 2 years ago
photovoltaic cells.
Because:
a) they just don't generate enough energy to run a computer
b) there's no space on a laptop - put the surface on the lid or the bottom and it won't catch the sunlight
c) putting in enough cell surface area will cause the price of the laptop to skyrocket

While I agree the sager is one tough competitive notebook...those specs are for a complete desktop replacement class system.
Theyre way more bulkier and have less battery life.
Theyre fine machines, I'm actually looking at picking one up for a windows based system.
the 17" uMBP that I have is perfect for everything i need to do and I didnt even have to invest much in it.
This is borderline desktop replacement..but not desktop class like the sagers are.
Both are nice though.

Note that with the default setup on their page, it costs $3069. That's 6 GB RAM, 250GB Hard Drive, 2.66 GHz i7, and 8x DVD Drive.
With your config, it's $6967. That's more expensive than a Mac Pro. And not as good.
yeah568 2 years ago
macbook pro 17 inch does not have an i7 chip!! Just regular 45nm dual core cpu
4/8gb RAM...not 6
256gb? where did you get this from. apple currently carries 320gb ond SSD.
You can buy a windows pc with the same specs of a macbook pro 17 inch ($2800) for $699.
i don't know where you get the Eurocom D900F Phantom i7 price of $7k from because it's coming out on April. Price is to be announced.

eternalkp 2 years ago
It's not. Go read the Mac Pro's specs, idiot.
yeah568 2 years ago
idiot? huum.
ok, look at this laptop features vs mac pro desktop
phamtom i7 vs mac pro
CPU: i7 965 @ 3.2ghz vs i7 940 2.98ghz
GPU: 2xGTX 280M SLI vs ATI 4870
RAM: DDR3 1333mhz vs DDR3 1066mhz
CD drive: Bluray burner vs "super drive"
HD: 3x500gb 7200rpm raid 0 vs 1tb or 1tb additional individual harddrives...
Every feature of the phantom i7 (coming out in april) is superior.
i7 965 extreme edition is designed for overclocker, hit 4ghz easily. dual GTX 280M SLI beat ATI 4870 & mediocre 4x GT 120
