  • What beauty of tone, and his phrasing is a joy to hear.

  • Qué clase en el fraseo!

    His phrasing distills class!

  • Super.TY for posting.

  • che Artista!che bellezza infinita!

  • The canvas on which he painted with his voice, is that of the French Impressionists

There was no one like Tito Schipa and, unfortunately, never will be again in an operatic world of "Bellow" Canto

  • @MrSkylark1

,What a beautiful and perfect discription of Schipa's voice.

  • @carolynhope1

Much appreciated. If you wish to hear a Repin/Russian, suggest listening to Sergei Lemeshev sing Kuda, Kuda

    from Eugene Onegin

  • There is a similarity in the voices of Schipa and Kraus, or am I mistaken?

  • This makes me want to live in the past

  • @Pollione88

I think you may be right. It seems the whole world only wants Del Monaco as their tenor and Cabernet Sauvignon for their wine. We miss so much this way!

  • Ha ha, I like this!

  • I am french and more use to hear Werther in French than in Italian..But here , in that case , it is marvellous sund and interpreted that I don't mind about the language..We undertsand Schipa as is it was french sung..It is the exact voice and sensibility for Werther..bravo !!

  • Beniamino Gigli said, "ALL TENORS SHOULD TAKE THEIR HATS OFF TO SCHIPA" who represented the "ART" of SINGING, which is NON-EXISTENT today on the PROFESSIONAL OPERATIC STAGE

  • Well, some singers try their best to sing with taste and style not just pushing their guts out... look around, there are a few. But I agree that its more rare now a days.

    Best

  • why did you put a portrait of giovanni martinelli at 3:37-4:10?

  • Just checking.

  • Beautiful!! exquisite phrasing!

  • The voice that pierces the heart of his listeners... that's the Schipa trademark.

  • If you have ever heard Schipa's live Werther its not much faster but even more magical. Having also heard Kraus live Werther I think they are the two greatest interpreters of the role since the 1920s. But Schipa's (Italian language) interpretation achieved a spiritual intensity that even Kraus could not attain. On stage Schipa did unbelievable things prompting applause in places no one else ever gets applause. His death scene in Werther was the most heart rendering you will ever hear.

  • Semplicemente CELESTIALE

  • kraustrujillo, I know it's a nitpicky thing but you really should correct the spelling of Schipa's name in the title.

    Thanks.

  • Such an elegant way of singing ! Its a little bit slow, yes, but doesnt he singing his dream ?

I only saw this opera some 15 years ago in s'Hertogenbosch, a little town in the Netherlands. The audiance were less than 30 persons ! They asked us to come to the first ranks so that the singers could see us. It became a very special evening. It was if they were singing just for us. The Brabants orchestra was beautiful too.

  • I've always loved T.Schipas voice and singing.

    The true "bel canto"! Alguso

  • angelic

  • Tito Schipa is really the Kraus of the modern times.. the excellence and the fine nasal..

  • if your train is coming and you are in rush listen other stuff... are you kidding?

  • bravo tito dont care if you sing this slower OR faster than others i just want to hear that lovely voice, perfect diction, interpretation, and coloratura technique..bilstew.

  • The afficionado recognizes quality which. Schipa exemplified - The ART of CHIAROSCURO which the singers of today have not the faintest concept.Anyone can sing forte, it takes intelligence to sing "all" the nuances which the composer indicates.

  • The great Beniamino Gigli said, "WE MUST ALL TAKE OUR HATS OFF TO TITO SCHIPA" It takes a great artist to RECOGNIZE what is great in another artist. It is the superb phrasing that Schipa exemplified.

  • Alvaro Clemente dice:

Tito Schipa can be considered, like one of the greatest technical tenors of all the times, his technique of emission of the voice in serious, average, the acute ones and in smooth and very smooth notes, she is extraordinary.

Congratulations to the great Tito Schipa

  • i just love the italian version, thank you again

  • such a beautiful and clear quality. I love the delicacy with which he treats the music, it can not help but move the listener. Proof that we do not all have to posess HUGE voices to be beautiful and have class~! Bravo Tito! I wish I could have heard you live....

  • I did hear him live. I heard him in Providence, Rhode Island on his farewell tour and he kept his beautiful voice, perfect intonation and articulation till the end. He projected so that even in a large theater you heard him clearly and it sounded effortless. Agreed he didn't have a huge instrument for a voice, but as you say, he was such a great artist. He is still my favorite singer of all time.

  • "Great" is a very subjective term.

  • I'am sorry, it was been a mistake.

  • who restored this recording is a genius...old voice with new orchestra? wow

  • He doesn't have the range or projection of the so-called great tenors, but there is absolutely no one who feels, who lives his music as personally and profoundly as Tito -- my choice as the greatest tenor who has ever lived.

    Saludos.

  • tHE DATE IS INCORRECT BECAUSE THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL RECORDING.
