Probably their worst album. Can you say melancholy? Johnny and Morrissey were parting ways, citing creative differences. Can it actually be sadder than that?! The end of The Smiths...way sad!

Happy birthday for the other day! I once got an email from a website that I'd forgotten I'd put my date of birth into and it was a pleasant surprise when the email arrived as it was technically the first 'happy birthday' I'd had that day, as it came just after midnight. Morrissey and Marr, the greatest songwriting partnership in musical history just could have done a hell of a lot better than this.

It's not a BAD song as such, but compare it to any single, bside, anything from the debut, MiM or QiD, and you'll find this is no where near as good a song.

It's quite catchy but there's nothing there for Smiths song.

But come on, read the lyrics to Unhappy Birthday, and compare them with any other smiths/morrissey lyrics. No comparison. The music itself is equally uninspired.

what about `Dagenham Dave` that is really bad,compare that to it..who`s idea was it to release that..prob his worst released song ever,saying that many of his released chart songs are not the best tracks,he has better tracks left on his albums..but i think he does that on purpose.And you cant blame the record company for most things,i think Moz has control over things like that,thats why he changes lables all the time,he`s in control....not them.

Yeah, in fairness several solo Morrissey tracks are reasonably atrocious.

But come on, this song really isn't up to the standard of Marr nor Moz.

But then I suppose nothing is, and this was probably one of the last songs the smiths wrote. But that said 'I keep mine hidden' was the actual last, and that's better than Unhappy Birthday.
