One of the few Christmas TV specials that drives home the TRUE reason for the holiday. Not reindeer, Santa, etc. Those are nice, but this hits home. A favorite of mine since the 60's.

@snowwhistle1 The Christmas special was from 1965 and Peppermint Patty and Marcie debuted in the strip in 1966 and 1971. I'm 20 years older than you and even I still have trouble with some characters. A classic special for sure.

They believed that a tyke in a green tassel cap clutching a security blanket reciting verbatim (in “King James” English) the biblical account of the birth of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, to the American viewing public (even in 1965!) was NOT "PC"/NOT cool. But credit where credit is due: They, and Coca Cola, flew with the purity of Shulz’s vision and gave us this inspirational masterpiece. Merry Christmas, YT family!

I just enjoyed "Birthdays" with my two granddaughters - 8 and 5 years old - we are all "December babies" - and the three of us sat on the couch snuggled tightly together watching this on DVD. The timeless GOOD of Schulz's faithfulness was clearly demonstrated in the faces and hearts of my little ones - proving once again - regarding the godly principles of "Sparky" Schulz - that God honors those that honor Him. And to answer the individual that asked how I found this site......I like Charles' creation and grew up with this 30 minute flick that sends a good message about teaching us no matter who we are, we should all just love one another and help each other out the best we can. There are others like Christ. Alex Supertramp, gives up on society, gives up the material things, walks the earth in search of his fate, telling others to live life with vigor but in fairness with nature and others. Alex thought he was going to end up somewhere special, but he ended up in death. Because he could not turn around his thoughts and attempt to live and abide in a world he hated so much. He did not wish to conform to the madness of humans. Nether did Christ.

The thing about Christ though, was he didn't really wish to die at all. He got caught up in the mix and they decided he should die instead of the criminal. Christ was a man who rather live in another world, not the world of hate. So, he brought it upon himself to change it by being stubborn and righteous. I am an Atheist but for the few minutes when Linus tells everyone what Xmas is all about, I still cry after all these years. I am very surprised that this is still "allowed" to air on TV because of the fact that it does mention God. To each his/her own. There is no significance of Christianity in christmas except the fact tat humans forcefully mix in christian teachings into it. Why do we celebrate Jesus' birthday since Jesus never needs us to, not to mention the false date? Why yoke ourselves with paganism? Where is the need? Those Charlie Brown specials (at least the Christmas & Halloween ones anyway) had a real morality to them, and weren't afraid to approach edgier subjects either, like depression, the often cruel nature of children towards one another, lack of belief, unrequited affection, and more, all without explicitly spelling it out and through the innocent eyes of children. But Charlie Brown steadfastly never gives up - a real everyman's hero. Kids shows nowadays are crap.
