i had my x10 for just 6 months and i had to send it back last week as it froze and just would not work it wont even charge ....but i hope its goner be ok as i love it
jesus christ, everyone, just get over the fact that this is still running 1.6, this is sony's first attempt at android so do you really think that it would already have 2.1 on it? seriously, on their very first android phone they would be putting 2.1 or higher. they have promised an upgrade further along the track, but do you know why that is taking so long? i'll tell you why. each phone and os system need to have matching screen resolutions. so of course they're going to take their time.
@EgoJoel Yeah I would say that this phone is nice, but compared to its high-end competitors it is at the bottom. For the same price, one would want to get another device. The X10 got a better FPS in Neocore because it had sound turned off. I have tried the benchmark on my Android device and the score degrades if sound is turned on. There would be no other logical explanation as to if why it got a better score.
@Rickyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy I think that the RAM is limited to 256MB in Android 1.6. Still, for a high-end smartphone, the lack of software support and RAM has gave me a bad impression on Sony. Have you noticed that this is the only 1GHz phone that doesn't have at least 512MB of RAM?
The problem manufacturers have is that by the time they lock in a carrier deal on a device, the device OS is already obsolete. A lot of devices will just be getting Froyo just about the time Gingerbread comes out. Viscous, but true.
i want that phone, and who cares if it currently runs 1.6, at least you know that they are making an attempt to use android, also consider that it is their first android device ever. so logically speaking, sony wouldn't be so dumb to automatically throw 2.1 or higher until they know they can get android to run at all in the first place.
Great review, but I must say this. Why would a company release a product that so good looking, and has an amazing camera, with Android 1.6. It makes no sense from a business or a consumer standpoint. Google should just close access to anything older than 2.1. No company should even be granted access to such an old OS.
@CurrentWeb Probably because it's arriving MUCH later than planned, and they didn't bother updating the OS after all the work with 1.6, as it would put back the launch even more.
You know why? This phone was released almost a year ago when 1.6 was still in use. It just never hit US markets until now. In that one year, Android advanced rapidly and also smartphones did too.
it's getting 2.3

@compl3t3 sounds like it. I'd get an Android phone myself, but I'm on Metro PCS and were not receiving any until December.

Remember this phone only has 128MB of RAM and an outdated version of Android. Worst choice you can make today.

Kids these days ..
2.1 is around the corner... RAM is not to worry about.
X10 even got better fps in NEOCORE benchmark-tool.
It might not be the best choice but its not the worst but you flaming kids never got any arguements ..

Compered to Disire its equal!
But I think Galaxy S is better then both of them.
X10 got dedicated memory to the graphic-card and thats why it got higher score.
Since you were so wrong with the facts in the last comment im guessing you know nothing about the hardware on the x10.
EgoJoel 1 year ago
@YOUCANNOTDENY Better fps then Desire I would say in my latest comment.

@YOUCANNOTDENY first do your homework, then you would know the X10 has 384Mb of ram.. a little bit more than you thought it would have!:d
