  • yo what happened to The Other One?

  • 222

  • Caution: Driver may be experiencing a sick China/Rider

  • this is from the grateful dead movie. good stuff. the eyes is my all-time fave

  • he's dead allright loser

  • There's something so beautiful about those dancing children. The picture of pure joy. This stuff is timeless and ageless.

  • does anybody know when/where this was from?

  • 10-17-1974 Winterland Ballroom, San Fransico, California, U.S.A., Earth, Solar System, Milky Way.

  • It's like a beautiful symphony being conducted.

  • Super China/Ride! Very crisp, tight and clear! Plus, the ever trippy sounds that come off that stage!! Yaaahhhhoooooo!!

    Thank you Frisco!!

  • H.E.L.L. Y.E.S. B.O.Y.S.!!!!!

  • feelin groovy jam!

  • beautiful............

  • Awesome.

  • Rock on Jerry xx

  • Abath07 you dick!

  • haha, but it's true lusoch. The new dead stays in key better, but they suck more. go figure

  • Cute tune, but Garcia sometimes slips off key vocally and with a few of his guitar notes.

  • yeah, he might not get in to berkley school of music.

  • WTF!

  • Is this from The G.D. Movie ? What kind of guitar is Jerry playing ? I like this one better than what he played in the late '80's.Their mic's however, leave something to be desired ! Still, very good stuff.

  • Jerry is playing the 'Wolf' It is an Alembic which was modified by Doug Irwin. It was sold at auction after Jerry died, and for a few minutes it held the record for the most money paid for a guitar. The Tiger, an Irwin guitar, sold next and for more money.

The mics are out of phase w/ each other. This canceles any sound which goes equally in bothmics (amps, drums crowd) That is why he is singing into only one mic. A very clean system w/ almost no leakage.

  • WOW THIS IS AWESOME!

    THANKS!

  • Amongst my very favorite dead moments on disc.

  • Boy is that Nice. TY!

  • little white negroids... give 'em a bath! LOL

(j/k) -- well, except for the part about washing them.

    Stink /= Peace !

  • look how thin jerry is

  • love phil with a beard

  • hippies dont dance we boogie!!

  • true, but when they're not boogieing, they're dancing.

  • Ive been to quite a few shows. Hippies don't shower either. Petouli oil doesn't mask the stink, it makes it worse. Just throwin' that out there.

  • Those two kids dancing...sweetest purest thing I've ever seen...

  • I miss Jerry!

  • P.l.A.y D.e.A.d

  • thanks much nice footage!

  • you are a dumb, worthless slit. I'm not defending anyone, it just needed to be said.

  • love the little hippie kids dancing. Wonder ehat they're up to these days?

  • Probably posting YouTube videos of themselves dancing in their underwear.

  • haha why the red thumbs?

  • Happy Birthday Kathy!

  • Dear Doktor Sarto!

Seems like everything lead up to this day--and it's just like any other day that's been before. Sun comin'up and then, the sun it's coming down. Shine in my window and my friends they come around....

  • The GD tended to run "hot" or "cold" in concert. When they were "hot" or "on", nobody was better. Best live band in the world when the were really "on" ... nothing like it! Thanks for posting. What memories. Love it. Peace.

  • Couldn't have said it better myself, capitalist. Possibly my favorite Dead tune. (maybe you can tell by my username)

  • "Life was happy like this...simply magical!"...

  • yea i prever the keith sound-i liked the hornsby -vince piano organ mix too-poor vince hope ya found peace

  • 7:00/8:00 is pure golden jam band

    :]

  • Burns intensely yet subtly, like coals at the end of a fire!!!

  • what year was this?

  • 1974, the october shows.

  • thanks

  • god bless the grateful dead

  • wow jerrys thin here

  • we got a stray kitten at work recently and because he's medium haired and grey, i (unofficially) named him "jerry". this is his theme song

  • Friscobay, I swear as I was watching this vid I thought to myself, "Trey Anastassio must be the bastard love child of Phil Lesh"!! :-)

  • I can watch this video over and over again. This is an awesome rendition of one of their best songs. Thankyou friscobay for posting it.

  • look how skinny jerry is

  • the version of this on europe 72 is un-fucking-believable, jerry is singing right on and transition is absolutely orgasmik

  • When i die

    bury me deep

    lay two speakers

    at my feet

    place two headphones

    on my head

    and always play

    the grateful dead.

  • to pbl1. thats actually very clever, poetic etc. but you don't 'have to' listen to him. 'ignorance is a bliss'

  • favorite dead song, favorite band....its all unstoppable

  • god dam bobby is on fire!

  • its ur personal taste :).

  • Maybe you hear nothing, maybe you don´t have the rigt feeling.

  • get your hearing checked dickhead!

  • Where has this been hiding??

    Incredible version, great sound! Philzone>Garcia....

    wolfe

  • great performance. the kids are some talented dancers as well.

  • I love the Dead so Dead Heads stay chill and love don't be mean this is a comment of celebration im just pointing out something I think is wierd. Why dont any other bands have a following like Zeppelin and The Allman Bros. Anyway amazing performance I wish I was there I saw Jerry and the band 4 times before he died this is when I was 1 and 2 though RIP Jerry

  • My mom was a dead head not hard core follow them around to every show but still a dead head Ive been fed this music I still don't understand the huge following theyre godly but why don't bands like zeppelin with jimmy page who is the guitar god have a following like this.

  • cuz led heads were not as big of hippies and gypsies like people as dead heads were

  • This is a winner, 6 stars.

  • I WOULD SO BE THAT GUY DANCING HIS FUCKIN NUTTS OFF IN THE BACK AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    dosing nutts

  • cuter than shit...

  • Did you hear the Uncle Johns Band tease at 8:00, amazing. That place is rockin

  • Heya. Close, actually the four chord progression that is in the middle section between China and Rider is typically called the Mind Left Body Jam. Apparently it's in reference to a Paul Kantner song (more in title than in tune). Agreed, the place was rockin' for sure. I particularly like the momentum around 6:29.

  • I really love bobbys solo here, so melodic. And Phil is really ON tonight, wow hes rocking. Overall performance is awesome, as usual.

  • agreed totally bobbys solo gives me fuckin chills....so nasty

  • ah man jerry

look at his face when he jams, you know theres just something going on in there you can't put into words

  • that just goes to show you that the grateful dead were not assholes. they just let the kids dance right there on the stage.

  • Gotta love the fact that you could wear your pajamas to the show and just dance your ass off. The 70s look fun.

  • How sweet is this. Good music, and the kids are having a good time.

  • Yeah, this was THE night J.G. was high as balls. There was no OTHER night he was high.

  • Bobby was good that night

  • Does anyone know which night this particular performance is from? I have a few of those nights but can't seem to locate the one with this awesome version.

  • Huh?

  • 6.18.74

  • sorry. my mistake. 10.17.74 Winterland

  • Loving that bobby solo--

  • how could second guess that being Phil? even with the beard it is obviously him haha. and this is from the Movie... also his bass. it is sort of obvious.

  • thats what i was thinking too.

  • Thats Phil alright. This from Winterland 1974- the "Grateful Dead Movie" run.

  • with alittle friend of teaser nice

  • Does anyone know who is playing Bass here? Thats not Phil, right? Or is it - Bearded - I am not sure ... trippin me out though - please enlighten me... thanks - rydub

  • It's actually Trey Anastasio.

  • dude your crazy thats an early 70s show

  • its phil just early show

  • that is phil u dumbasses.

  • i can tell you, it means nothing because you are a poser, gerry garcia was not he indulged in life and he died young for it , but respect to him, you have never tripped in your perfect life, congrats, it is not to late pop some pills ,push yourself, then comment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!have your earning potential trip to please maybe make you a human being.

  • Oh too bad I just found out it was 10-17-74. Just like the Candyman, if I had a shotgun I would blow you straight to hell.

  • Just to let everyone know, I was quoting the song "Candyman" and I would never intentionally harm someone.

  • fantastic, just fantastic!

  • THOSE KIDS ARE SO CUTE

  • Love this combo.

  • At this moment in time it was.

  • thank you soo much for all of these amazing dead videos friscobay01.

  • lovely

  • beautiful~

  • The whole jam pure magic, especially those notes Jerry is hitting around the 6:20-7:00mark- WOW

  • MAN!!!! WHY on earth did they leave this on the cutting room floor!?!?!?!?!?!

  • its looks like trey ana is playing bass

  • those kids look happy as can be dancin to the sweet sounds of the gd

  • This is great, of course, but Brent was the man on the ivory.

  • Keith had way more skills than Midland did and his sound was much more suited to the Dead's music. Brent's organ was overpowering and often times downright annoying.

  • Go, Bobby!

  • has anyone here heard hooteroll? it's some awesome local shit with jerry and howard wales....check it out.

  • bobby kills it

  • hah look at phils beard. Man i wish i could have seen the dead with jerry alive. :(

  • this song and video are kickass

  • I was at the olive garden in NC last week, first time there and the antipasto they offered consisted of fried cheese sticks, chicken strips and a vatiety of undesireable veggies.

  • Thats pretty uninteresting, is there a point you are trying to make?

  • dont be mean he just wants to talk :[

and i didnt know they sold chicken strips at olive garden! zomg

  • fantastic, just fantastic!

  • wow they were on fire this night.

  • I have The Grateful Dead Movie! Fuckin ace!

  • haha thats what im talkin about

  • I wish they had THIS version for Rock Band. This would just plain OWN.

  • i believe it comes out on mar 4th for rock band. you can download it.

  • hey thanks for putting this up. this is the dead i wish everyone understood. seeing those little kids dancing and everyone united through the music is just what makes the dead so special for me

  • i turned one of my friends on to the dead by having him watch the grateful dead movie...after watching it he said he had the utmost respect for the dead, even though this kind of music isnt really his thing

  • i have this DVD this is a great version

  • Bob is on fire this one too. Awesome!!

  • Garcia is the man! He ranks up there is Clapton and Page? If not better because he invented the market place genre. Thanks, frisco:)

  • he was such an inventive player, and the way all the notes are just strung together sounds very delicate and unique

  • 3 min 54 sectons ..... let it jam

  • One of the best jams between China and Rider ever. Pretty much flawless. A+

  • great song!

  • two of their best songs delivered at the top of their game

  • not to be nitpicky, but i know you rider is not their song.

  • I lot of great musicians do covers. Look at Jimi Hendrix, he didn't write All Along the Watchtower.

  • The Grateful Dead were amazing at covers.

  • they have way more amazing originals though.

  • Finally, I'd like to extend my thanks to friscobay01 for posting this. It really is at true example of the dead, and, along with the 8-27-72 Dark Star from Sunshine Daydream that somebody put up here, is one of my favorite videos on youtube. Well done for keeping the Dead alive!! (pun intended) oh, and by the way, I Know You Rider isn't their song... just kidding.

  • Sure thing spiff. I liked Thankyoujerrygarcia's channel, to bad they shut his ass down. I might be next.

  • I know, i wasn't saying that it was any worse for being a cover. I was just saying that the song itself was not written. I love the dead's covers, and although in their entire body of work I would have to say I enjoy (for the most part) the songs that they write, luckily, we don't have to make that choice. I'm a bird song man myself, especially 6-22-73. And who could resist the classic 9-11-74 Eyes. And, in terms of China->Riders, I love the Without a Net version. Brent just rocks the keys...

  • true.... but they wound up OWNING IT!!!

  • guys, you misunderstand me. I was just noting that it's not their song. I'm a huge deadhead, although I'm too young to have seen them, I ahve a pretty impressive collection on my XHD, and would love to trade with anyone. Specifically, 72-74. But thats a different note. I'm sorry that you guys thought I was trying to be argumentative or whatever, but it was just an observation. I mean, look at NFA-GDRFB. Two covers, yet, as you said, they ended up owning it. btw, check out 6-10-73, with duane.

  • hey sorry man duane died in 1971 but that is a great show none the less.

  • you got me there man, i guess i need to beef up on my allmans knowledge. i'm pretty sure the allmans played with them that show though. the third set, with the dylan covers.

  • The Dead at their very, very best. Totally together (well, as together as they ever were) and right on top of their game. Beautiful, beautiful music that despite everything makes the world seem a better place.

  • thanks for sharing the best music made by mankind...

  • HA! yeah this shit evokes some good fellings huh? no problem bro :)
