I saw this choir sing this piece tonight in Milan (Italy) - absolutely breathtaking...never heard the all-female version before and I'm not normally a fan of girls' choirs but this group are visually and acoustically stunning!
(A negative comment about this performance was posted under my name on this discussion a long while ago. I've just now removed the comment. I don't recall posting it originally. It's likely just a glitch but YouTube admin has been notified.)
What a beautiful offering to give to the Mother of God. Thank you young ladies for this edifying music that lifts the soul to be closer to heaven! God bless you. I hope you all still get a chance to sing together, I know this was some time ago.
Which Pro Musica group is this? There are several. Absolutely beautiful. Live choral music, if you can hear good groups like this, is one of the truly awesome experiences of life; if you appreciate good music and the amazing sounds the human voice can make. In Seattle: The Esoterics, The Seattle Choral Company, Seattle Men's Choir, and many others. Your city has its own, great to support them.
In all fairness, the tuning is quite good considering the size of the group and the acoustics of that building. Dealing with high ceilings, hard walls and hard floors, then having part of the group above and behind the others all make for some challenging listening for those girls. It's certainly not a wonder to me why they would need a conductor.
And some of them are very cute. That's nice too. ;-)
@BewareSwordflash well...there are challenges yes...but the scooping begins even before the full choir starts. Also the latin pronunciation is not correct in several spots.
@guitarcat333 Sounds like the other versions I've heard of it.
'Sides, it makes life a lot easier if you get a clear beat and cue from the conductor at the beginning. Sometimes you have the one or two sopranos not paying attention and come in late.
I was new in my choir, and when the others started to sing it, i almost cried... its beautiful, moving, relaxing, emotional, and it sais everything it wants to... i'm so glad that now i know it too :)

@xKELBIx -its understandable, but I just personally find it really hard to sing that way, especially since in our choir we have so much expression in both facial and body movement, than crossing our hands is impractical, but I do see your point.
i think the Latin is exceptional, no hard T sound the nice transition of the rolling of the R and phrashing of the Latin vowels, They sound as if their native language was a Latin language
I have one question: can somebody send me on mail this composition for mixed choir? Thanks a lot, lot, lot. This choir is one of the best in the whole world. Great music!
The original version is TTBB/Trio TTB... this version would be the same SSAA/SSA.... i love this version but i love singing the original version (TTBB/TTB)! :-)
This has to be the only piece that affects me like it does! I have never heard a womens chorus do this piece! It brought me to tears! I have done this piece, I was the tenor 1 soloist! And I have to say, from doing this, you did this song justus! Beibl would be very proud to have you ladies sing this song! God Bless you all!
I'm sure it's the accents, but it sounds like a lot of their words end with z and not s. Like the first soloist says "angeluze domini", and then later it sounds like "Fructuze ventreeze". Otherwise very nice.
I think they could have used more dynamics, but that was partly the conductor's fault, not showing anything but the beat with his hands. Other than that, phenomenal.
I disagree... the conductor uses parallel conducting for expressive and entry points, and uses the left hand independently as a mechanism of expression.

WOW! I didn't thnk I would like the sound of Ave coming from female voices, but I did. And they kept the pitch which is amazing in itself. The "Amen" almost had me in tears it was so beautiful. Especially the alto 2 parts Just WOW! I don't think another women's chorus can touch them with this composition.
I think this is the Pro Musica Girl's Choir, from the same institution the Cantemus mixed choir comes from. I love these sopranos! We're talking sound that's crystal glass pure. I think I like the men's version, but what a great recording this is!
This song period is beautiful and one of my all-time favorites. Whether it's an all boys or all girls, such as this one, I still find it pleasing to my ear. I love this arrangement. And stuff like this is once in a lifetime things to hear! thank you so much to whomever posted this up.
hey, the group is Pro Musica Girls Choir from Hungary. Actually I can send your this song per email (if it's ok for you) 'cause I'm one from the choir. :) just let me know your adress.
Many people mean "classical" when they say "modern." We've only had good reconstructions and conscience of original Latin pronunciation for a century or two.
I think this is actually an arrangment for trio/TTBB, regardless my absolutely favourite arrangement of Ave Maria always put a shiver down my spine when done well be either gender.
That is insanely gorgeous. I've listened to the all male, half and half, and all female versions, and I've got to say that this is clearly the superior one. I think it's the amazingly vibrant and clear tone the sopranos achieve that really makes this for me :-)
Yes, the pronunciation isn't always the best, and the nice deep bass that makes this piece so appealing to me is missing, but the angelic sopranos really make up for it.
@meerock : the thing about the pronounciation is understandable because for women, they have to widen their vowels when singing their high notes or they will sound screechy and such
The pronunciation has little to do with accents and where their from. The placement is too forward and bright. Watch them sing, it's too wide, not tall enough. Great performance, though I'm still overly fond of the all male version.

In some languages, this helps. However, if one is attempting to work with traditional latin, this bright tone is completely appropriate.

To those who are concerned with the pronunciation of the Latin, it has to do with accents! If you listen to the choir that sang for the movie Les Choristes, their Latin has a distinctly French tinge to it. It's still lovely; you just know where everyone's from. Such is the beauty of music!
The overtones are sick. What a gorgeous rendition. Congratulations to the choir and their director.
Wow never heard a all Female recording of this. AMAZING!! I performed this with a children's choir singing the Choir I and the color that that adds is just breath taking and the overtones were off the chart. i need to post it.
You hardly know where to start with this, but it's all good. The setting is beautiful, the acoustics are awesome, the placement of the voices is as should be (and that's a rarity), the soloist is a nightingale...
The only thing that's missing is ME there soaking it all in in person as it was being performed. I'm sure that would've been a sonic treat listening to all that reverberation.
utsunomya, are you part of this group? I hope they know how much they're appreciated. Tell us more!
