@KINGFATSO They are kissing the altar, as a sign of reverence to it and to the liturgy that they will administer. This has been always the norm for celebrants before they proceed to their places.
@KINGFATSO They are cardinals, however their "rite" is not the same as that of Western Catholicism, which has the "Latin" rite. Collectively, they represent the so-called Eastern Catholic Churches. They retain their customs and practices, which are evident now in their liturgical vestments, but they and their Churches are in full communion with the Pope. Their being cardinals show this allegiance to the Supreme Pontiff.
This is the most televised funeral ever, for such a great man as the pope JP 2nd. and it's the best one too, better then princess diana's funeral, better then dale earnhardt sr's funeral, and also way better then michael jackson's funeral.
@DimeraFan28 And I believed, the most attended. That's not counting those who were watching the telecast live all over the world. Let's wait for the numbers in his upcoming beatification.
Mystery Babylon(Revealtions 13 & 17) laying to rest one of their own and the world grovels at the specatacle.......Yes John we can understand at you being shocked at the woman in purple & scarlet and a golden cup in her hand(Rev 17:4)Colors of the Papacy and the Chalice of the Mass. The 7 mountains she sits on(v.9)Rome, city of the 7 hills,Mysery Babylon (V.5-Fidei Eucharist per Vatican II) Yes John we can understand.
@medjfootball lol yes he did he started but he didn't complete u see because he was sad he was just doing it cause in that state u can't really concentrate so yea.
I remember EWTN commenting on how the winds began coming up in Vatican Square about a minute after they placed the Book of the Gospels on the coffin. They were wondering if God was sending down his blessing on the Pope and the Cardinals at that time.
Imagine if this many people could come together for other purposes like feeding the hungry, or building houses for the poor, or any other great cause. That would truly be a great spiritual awakening :)
I have a complaint against CNN...I think it is propsterous when they mix politics and religion together; calling Carindal Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict) a "conservative catholic". It is so dumb!
thank you for posting this, I remember watching it, but I did't remember the beautiful music they sang. It really was one of the most powerful, emotional things I have ever seen.
erdeepspace: Thanks for bringing to us the funeral of JP II. However, I wanted to point out to you that you made a slight mistake in titling your clips as "Pop" John Paul II Funeral. It should of course be "Pope" John Paul II.
God bless you, John Paul II [Karol Wotyla]. Rest in peace :)

Reminiscing the death of Pope John Paul II is a joyous act. It reminds me of the eternal life that Pope John Paul II has gained. :)
