HOnestly, any producer that can keep things orignal are the best mainly when it comes to beats out today. Before people got on this "Let me be a producer" mode, you knew who produced which beat because they carried their own distinct sound, now I cant tell nothing and only get part of it right because you discover that 80% of the song was made by a producer in the backround.

Adding elements and sounds that are more commonly associated with other genres of music helps to make an interesting beat, repetition is a VERY useful tool, if you have your own recording gear, good mic pre and microphone, try making your own samples...you wouldn't believe some of the insane beats that I've made that have power tools in them, chop saws and electric drills, you can't tell what they are, it just sounds tight

Every producer has their own style, but there are a number of things that almost every one of them does. Try adding just a touch of verb or a very quick delay to different elements, trying quantizing everything and then moving the hats a bit forward, move the snare/clap forward but more into the pockets, pan things around and use stereo tools, study up on music theory and apply that to the melodies you use, follow some rules and break others, Storch was a pianist before a producer...

I've researched the issue and i'm applying compression and eq as well as I can, but it's just not as tight and beefy as the kicks in these tracks.

what program are you usin...cuz you can put 2 kicks and process'em but you gotto hav a very good ear and good monitors thats how to pro's do...they never take from a kit and put it on the song they allways add things like a hi hat or even rimshot underneeth it ...just an advice eheh:D
