Actually, if you took all the money that they blew on the banks and loan companies and they distributed that money equally among the american people, the economy would be fixed.
There are roughly 135 million taxpayers in the united states. The bank bailout money was a total of $700 BILLION dollars. The stimulus package? another $819 Billion.
Instead of throwing money at corrupt companies who spend it on parties, why doesn't the government hand $11,251.86 to every tax payer?
Because, when you loan a bank $1, they can then turn around and lend against that $1 as collateral. Usually up to $8-10. In other words, you get 8 or 10 times more value out of your $1. The problem is, they haven't gone around and lend out money to normal people, they have gone around and lend it to other banks. So you don't really see the effect in the real economy.
But that is kind of irrelevant. Because the most important thing TARP did, was be a back stopper for the fall. To start again.
Sometimes it makes me really happy to not be American.

Actually, if you took all the money that they blew on the banks and loan companies and they distributed that money equally among the american people, the economy would be fixed.
There are roughly 135 million taxpayers in the united states. The bank bailout money was a total of $700 BILLION dollars. The stimulus package? another $819 Billion.
Instead of throwing money at corrupt companies who spend it on parties, why doesn't the government hand $11,251.86 to every tax payer?

Because, when you loan a bank $1, they can then turn around and lend against that $1 as collateral. Usually up to $8-10. In other words, you get 8 or 10 times more value out of your $1. The problem is, they haven't gone around and lend out money to normal people, they have gone around and lend it to other banks. So you don't really see the effect in the real economy.
But that is kind of irrelevant. Because the most important thing TARP did, was be a back stopper for the fall. To start again.
