Crazy shit! its funny how everyone in this band wants to be the lead guitarist ...even the drummer. He's all like "maybe if i smile big like EVH people will remember im here"
@bigbadtone5 They do man! You just have to dig a bit.. Look up Carl Roa and one of his projects, The Magic Elf. My old teacher's the bassist and turned me onto 'em =)
This was recommended off of a video of the Wipers.
-_-
Youtube, what the fuck!?
Nice bass work, but its just the same incredibly gay, instrumentally appealing (or unappealing, in my case) setting that Mr. Big brought to the table. And it has absolutely nothing to do with the Wipers.
Just so you know, this song came out years before Billy Sheehan took off his diapers and even thought about playing bass. Jerry Peek has since done some other similar work with violinist David Ragsdale. Check it out.
Just because Jerry Peek is wear a gay sailor outfit, doesn't detract from the music... This is in no way like Mr. Big too.. Listen to other Steve Morse/Dixie Dregg stuff.
If you think instrumentally advanced music is gay or unappealing... I don't even know what to say.
No, you're right, gay was the wrong word for it. Just my very first reaction to the overly 80s video.
I have a friend who loves Dixie Dregg. I didn't know Morse played for them before. Its still not my niche in music, but I could get into it more than this.
Personally, I don't find virtuoso instrumentals all that appealing. I respect the guys for what they can do, but the music doesn't mean anything to me.
Which makes it all the more confusing why youtube recommended the video to me.
I saw this tour at the The Wiltern Theater in LA. I think they headlined over Jeff Berlin and Vox Humana (w/ Scott Henderson on guitar). It was the first time I ever saw Morse and, as you can imagine, I was completely floored. Later in the show, Andy West came out on stage and they played several Dregs tunes, I think it was Assembly Line and Pride O' the Farm. I could barely sleep that night and the very next day I went out and bought Dregs of the Earth. It was all I could find that day!
@shreder1500 Steve plugs into two amps; a dry amp --> preamp out --> into a Lexicon PCM41 (chorus)-->volume pedal; Lexicon PCM42 Delay --> volume pedal --> wet amp. The chorus is the PCM 41.
This bass solo is great but unlike some other guys that commented here I can't it's my favourite!! I'd have to go for "Kat Food" by the Dixie Dregs... Andy West's solo there just fucking blows me away EVERY TIME, I always play it back over and over again...
Bought 'the introduction' after reading a write up of Steve - almost wrecked my car while listening to this on the drive home - Peek, Morgenstern and Morse rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Steve Morse never was a part of the group winger, he filled in on some shows after reb beach left the group and Rod Morgenstein was steve morses drummer before he played for winger.
Stewart from B&B wore a Winger t-shirt...or was it SM wore a B&B shirt? It's all so confusing... I went to a Deep Purple/Lynyrd Skynyrd show just to see SM play. A true master.
Dude you can't say that Rod Morgenstein is lame, especially not if you've only heard this song. By the looks of you're channel you're into some pretty good guys (I even see a Buddy Rich video fav'd) so I'm sure that if you gave this guy a chance and heard some more of his stuff you'd change your mind. Get some Dixie Dregs albums like What If and Dregs of The Earth and you'll see what I'm talking about. Stay cool
whatever happened to jeery peek? guy records the greatest bass solo ever and disappears from the face of the earth? maybe morse&morgenstein bumped into him while on some sort of interplanetary musical oddysey and he was "just visiting" this little spinning stone in space just long enough o record 1 lp b4 going back home to his own little stone?
I had wondered the same thing lo those years ago. I haven't heard hide nor hair of him either. A hell of a lot of musicians come and go after a stand-in opportunity and pursue a lot of other non musical commitments.
One of the coolest basslines to have ever been invented.
