  • Aw.Hold on.I take that back.If these fuckers are cutting the trees is a different deal.I mean.I have shrimp farming in mainland that brings no impact on the inviroment.

  • Shrimp farming destroys lives and the environment by replacing vital mangroves with shrimp farming. Boycott Tiger shrimp and any other imported shrimp!

  • That is a wrong statement my friend.

  • How can you say this. It is a fact that shrimp farming impact the environment in a negative way. Mangroves cut for creating these ponds were crucial to shelter juvenile fishes, crabs, wading birds, etc... a protection for shorelines, etcc. You really need to learn the truth MY FRIEND!

  • I dont agree with deforestation. There are other ways of farming them with no impact.Thats what I meant mate.I Agree totally with you.

  • info of hw cn others fram these plz post more info of states that will be best to handle these frams in the us.

  • those prawns are huge. I want to eat just by looking at this.

  • lol prawn fight! -

  • Not all fish farming is bad. Right now I'm working on a project to grow tilapia and plants in a recirculating system. It is completely chemical free (Unless corn/grains, rocks, and water are "chemicals"). I'd like to adapt it to prawns, but they are really territorial and like carnivorous foods which require more inputs.

What I'm saying is: Aquaculture is a developing field. Don't write it off completely just yet.

  • ElizabethAGreene. Your comment corn/grains, rocks and water not being chemicals was to say the least, sarcasm and pointless. Aquaculture hasn't been written off by me, but most are run to filthy standards.Tilapia ARE carnivorous like prawns.Food contains fish meal and fish oil about 25%-30% respectively the rest being replaced by plant proteins, but carnivorous fish dont naturally feed on plants and have anti-nutritional effects on fish.I could go on about depleting fish stocks , will save that

  • Still waiting in anticipation for your answer ElizabethAGreene, i'm sure you would like to add another purile comment.

  • If you are going to insult me, at least spell it right, it is "puerile".

Yes, many aquaculture operations, are disgusting, particularly those in asia.

Tilapia are omnivorous, and naturally feed on suspended algae using their gill rakes. They have no requirement for fish meal in their foods.

My Tilapia eat a plant based catfish food supplemented by fresh duckweed and insect larvae. The fish wastes are pumped through hydroponic growbeds and provide nutrients for plants. (continued)

  • The plant waste and scraps go to the bugs, and the bugs go to the fish. The liquid waste from the bugs is used as fertilizer for the dirt garden.

Unlike the approach in this video, my system of integrating plant and fish culture could continue in the same spot for years with no negative environmental effect. The inputs are commercial feed, seeds, and water to replace evaporation. The outputs are fish and plants.

I hope that clears it up for you.

  • Many a slip betwix cup and lip. Sorry about the spelling .I admire your explanation about your system . One of the definitions of the word explanation is...."A declaration made with a view to mutual understanding or reconciliation" I now have that mutual understanding and would like to reconcile for the comments I have said that offended.

  • No offense taken.

    Thanks for the reply,

    ellie

  • i wish u much success..

  • All looks good on paper, but what about the real world?Over use of chemicals and prawns bred in filthy fetid water, not to mention the eco balance of the enviroment. This all makes prawn farming the worst of all the factory farming, and that includes battery bred chickens!

  • so do you favor wild prawns, over farmed prawns. what website do people get wild prawns.

  • Over this side of the pond wild prawns can be bought from Frozenfishdirect, different, and far superior taste than the tiger. Read the book by Taras Grescoe called " Bottomfeeder" it will open your eyes to the factory farming methods of prawns and salmon.
