  • Wow china should show off their diversity more :3 btw i love sobg juying she is hmong and best folk singer in china!!!!

  • Under one name CHINA!

  • I think 56 ethnic group in China is an underestimation of its ethnic diversity.

  • @Balencian

Yes of course. Many ethnic groups are lumped into one of the 56 classified ethnic groups. For examples, the Miao ethnic... there are many branches of Miao ethnic groups, who speak different languages and call themselves by different name. Miao is a given ascribed name only.. I guess history, linguistic, traditions, religion and etc.. are used to determine what group each ethnic group belongs to.

  • Well put together. I loved it! .........Beautiful ladies......anywho......MIAO/HMONG IS AWESOME!!!

  • MIAO = HMONG FTW

  • Is this in descending order of population size for each ethnic? They are all beautiful people!!! Every single lady in this video is lovely!!!

  • @XiangMian yes that is correct.

  • Nice vid. Loved to see all those unique ethnic clothings.

    Cheers!

  • For me it's all the same except for Uyghurs, Russians and Tartars.

But for example... chinese will not recognise Spanish people from Portugal people or Egyptian people from Syrian people. BTW i love China ^^

  • @TomJayable Most non-Iberian European folks won't distinguish Spanish from Portuguese people, either.

  • some of them have same patterns as south american natives (Peru) some like Ewenki have similarities with northern american natives,,,WOW

  • I'm proud to be Miao/Hmong. By the way, there are close to 400,000 Hmong live in the United States because of their role helping the US fight against North Vietnam during the VIETNAM WAR 1961-1973. We don't call ourself Miao, we called ourself Hmong. Much love to all the Hmong or Miao that live all over the globe such as Thailand, Burma, Laos, Vietnam, China, USA, France, Japan, South America, and other country i don't know yet.

  • Super! excellent project!

  • nice pictures

  • Great video. Just a minor comment, and not that I am complaining because I thought those women looked nice in their ethnic clothes, but it seemed in these China has 56 ethnic groups videos on youtube they don't show the clothes the men wear. I remember dressing up in the costume of the Zhuang men while as a tourist in China and they are quite colourful as well.

  • were is Tibet and Yue?

  • Samquam, if you mean't by mix race than theres only an small quantity of mongolian, manchu blood in north chinese, the others you mentioned have no genetic impact in any population as proven from dna, there's only a few thousands.

  • WHOOT!! kuv yog ib tug ntxhai hmoob suav hu ua Miao :) Helloooo fellow cousins XD now i can say "I'm miao and we're originated from China." Not a lot of people know hmong but they do know the word Miao. kazakhi is really pretty

  • 1:22 yao zu! haha...thats what i am, but here we're called mien(h)

  • 0:48 ! miao zu! what i am...

can someone answer this question: if your considered an ethnic group in a country, but you wasnt born there nor your parents. are you still considered people of that country? even though your not born, or speak the main language in that country?

im miao zu, and i wasnt born in china or speak maderican chinese. do i still consider myself chinese?

many chinese people were born in thailand, they still consider themselfs chinese. so do i consider myself chinese too?

  • of course, you are CHINESE!

  • @rickiex - your ethnicity has nothing to do with your country. Your nationality is the country you were born in, but your ethnicity goes by who your parents or other ancestors were. If you were born in the US, you are American by nationality, but Chinese ethnically. Its totally your choice which you feel you identify strongest with - if you consider yourself Chinese, then you are.

  • i like that Russian girl's dress!!!

  • i like that russian girl's dress...

  • I have no idea ^_^ thanks for making this vid

  • Everything about China is very interesting.

  • im proud of being a miao :)

  • @916SOLDIERBOI, you meant to say..."being Hmong." "Miao" is a term from the Han Chinese to call our Hmong people. Just like we called them "Suav."

  • @916SOLDIERBOI more power 2 u ! :)

  • @916SOLDIERBOI Me too.

  • I'm so proud to be a Manchu.

  • my last name is toong or tong. the computer i'm on can't write chinese, but i am 99.2% han/0.8% manchurian. during the last century, han settlers in manchuria interracially married manchus. why do some people think that manchurian and korean are related?lol

  • you guys forgot about hmong. I heard that hmong is also from china too. or hmong just don't exist in china...........

  • @DoomD2012

It's there. The fifth largest ethnic group in China.

  • What I heard is that Hmong are known as Miao in China.

Since we are separated from the Miao, and migrated south to Laos, we called ourselves Hmong.

But overall, we derive from Miao.

Did a little research and heard how old people gossip XD.

  • My Miao-Hmong long life all the ways.

  • where is Hanfu!???????????

  • @bensontam

Yeah she shouldnt wear qipao, that's from Manchu~~~~Han fu needs revival!!

  • believe it or not i can speak one of those ethnic languages since its my birth right btw this ethnic language that i speak is in vietnam and china and is known as "Ai" which is similar to canto but with a few modifications well not really modifications

  • Comment removed

  • ai? a mixture of Jing ethnic and Cantonese?

  • Amazing. These are the 56 ethnicities currently in China. Imagine these that has yet to be recognized by the Chinese government! That, plus along with the other ethnicities lost in time. China is diverse.

  • @Bioloser Since Qianlong Emperor time during the early Qing dynasty, they already have records of the minorities mainly in 4 books with depictions of each ethnic group. And at chinese new year gala event, the ethnic groups celebrate their own minority culture on stage in the form of song and dance. You can see of these on youtube.

  • Jing is Kinh in Vietnamese (meant Ethnic Vietnamese)

  • Jing = Kinh in Vietnamese (meant Vietnamese)

  • This is totally cool.. didn't know there's is actually so many other ethnic of Asian in China. Not everybody are "actual" Chinese cause they live in China, they are "consider" Chinese cause they live there. All these women are HOT HoT HOt.

  • You mean not everybody "actually" Han. Han is the largest group. The Chinese in U.S. are mostly Han. And we are from a few counties of China. They all are Chinese, due to thousands years of war between feuldal states and mixed marriages. China is real mealting pot than U.S. American see Chinese are looking through a tunnel, unleast the "travelers" who have seen China.

  • Wo hen gao xing ka nu hai ma Zhong guo yu

xi wang fang wen Zhong guo yi qi kan ta men

  • cant believe i grew up being embarrassed being hmong :D..now i got pride being hmong

  • to be Hmong is to be china, it is something you should always be proud of, you're people are 5000 years old, and you are a living relic of pride, and I hope that you will never let that go =)

  • Thank you for your kind word. To be Hmong is difinitely to be Zhonggren for our motherland Zhongguo. We were always been family from the start and it is about time we reunite once again. All of our ancestors should be very proud of us. Finally peace and prosperity together long live Zhongguo!!!

  • Hey, I'm Hmong, why do you say that we were always been family from the start? Wow, what you side really interestes me, I would love to learn more. :)

  • You should never be embarrassed being Hmong. Our ancestors established some of the most ancient civilizations in China 5000 yrs ago. Our elders have always said, be proud of who you are and at the same time, show compassion and love to others.

  • age1566, maybe you grew up watching too many western propaganda thats why in your brain you might think that asians are so low because of how white mans supremacy show asian as weak and white as superior, dont be fool by hollywood, its nothing but racist white who operate that evil organization. be proud of who you are, whites colonial thinking still lives on till this day and it haven't gone away yet. go study about christian missionaries in the past and how similar it is to spread of democracy

  • I love my people.

  • I hope at least half of the viewers watching this video, are Americans...

Because you know how ignorant many are, especially when it comes to the world, geography, and diff. countries...

And were supposedly a world power?

Wow, how pathetic for the whole U.S. and it's ignorant people!!

  • It seems like half or more of the viewers ARE Americans. Check the statistic and data.

  • I'm from china. I think it's because in china sometimes you can't open youtube. and we have a popular websit like youtube called youku, people in china visit that website more, and it's in chinese.

  • u caan open youtube in china..i can..

  • ....wow, so many different ethnicities of china.

so many to keep track. lol. there are at least 2 other ethnicities that look exactly like the miao picture.

  • They're the Dong and Tujia. Both Dong and Tujia are separate ethnic groups, but are heavily influenced by the Miao people. Many ethnic groups in China are heavily influenced by the Miao culture. Of course, Miao are one of China's oldest ethnic groups.

  • Wow! This is one of the most educational

videos I've seen. I am Miao (Hmong). I was saddened by the comments made by other Hmong people in other videos. They used such foul words fighting over which is the better Hmong (White or Hmong Leng, Animism or Christian. This video makes me happy watching it. Thank you.

  • nyob zoo nice video

  • im a maio(hmong)...awesome...

  • Han, to me is the most beautiful women in the world....great vid! loved it!....wow

  • naw. There are ugly Han too man. There are ugly people and pretty people in almost allll cultures. As long as there was enough gene diversity.

  • Where is Hanfu!? That is the authentic costume for Han Tribe.

  • I am Miaozu. The oldest ethnic group in China. x333333

  • Han tribe was there when Miaozu existed.

  • I believe they both were there at there at the same time and same place. As a matter of fact, they were family, brothers and sisters. Due to conflicts, greed, pride, jealousy, power, etc. war breaks out between clans and tribes that forms ethnics and people. Today, we are one, we must not break that again. Peace. Long live Zhongguo!!!

  • True.

  • I think this is pretty.

  • What Beautiful People's of the Chinese culture, we should all do our best to preserve them.

  • Beautiful ladies, beautiful song, beautiful video

  • Me, too. I am Miaozu.

  • China has 58 ethnicities!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think there are more but 56 are what's being recognized from the major groups. However, it doesn't matter how many are there, we are supposed to be all one and that is Zhongren. Long live Zhongguo!

  • All their costumes are so colourful :D

  • Sorry for double posting, but theres also severa repeats in there.

Same 'subculture' and I double checked by looking at not just the "english" version of the name, but with the one you had in paranthesis as well.

  • Korea 1:28 , Chaoxian Zu, is a 'subculture' China?

Russia 4:01 , Eluosi Zu, is a 'subculture' of China?

.. Explain this to me please?

  • It just means there is Korean and Russian minorities living in China and China accepts their culture as a part of China.

  • korean and russia got there race in china , now today , the people in north and south korean came from us , they are the branch of chinese korean race

  • Thank you for sharing this excellent video on the rich cultures in China.

  • Could You tell me what's the title of this beautiful song? :)

  • Number 43 is so beautiful!

  • china is diverse,

  • Great i love the music~~

btw can you make another video where you post guys and girls in the same poster?

Also Dong and Tujia are not wearing their clothes, those are miao people's

  • #14 Korean:

Officially the ugliest of the 56 ethnicities of China. LOL

I think in this particular video, the Dai girl at 1:50 is the best, followed closely by the Qiang girl at 2:30, and the Salar girl at 3:02.

Although usually Uyghur and Manchu girls can be pretty good looking.

  • user blocked.

  • Hanfu is not suitable for daily modern life unless after modification.

The long skirts and sleeves is dangerous while catching bus, trams etc. and not suitable to ride bicycles or motor-cycles.

Qipoa and normadic dresses are better which is clean in design and don't have the setbacks as mentioned.

The Hanfu can be suitable for rituals and festivals to express Han culture.

  • Both Hanfu and Qipao are not suitable in the normal day wear. Only Jeans and T-shirt are.

  • Remind everyone, =)

    Qipao =/= Han Chinese.

  • who sings this song? i love this song

  • 双飞' (Shuang Fei) performed by Huang Xiaoming (黄晓明) and Ding Dang (叮擋)

  • do you have the MP3? i tried to look for it on iTunes

  • Thanks for the wonderful images. Don't forget to mention, that 43. the Jingzu, are also known as the Vietnamese....since you've mentioned the Koreans, Russians, Kazakhs, and others who also live in their own nominal countries.

  • so there is 56 ethnicities in china uh.. cool! thx for the time! 5starts!!

  • dang, i cant even count that much lol

  • which one of these are most beautifull? :D

  • I do not see Qipao as a Han costume is a technical mistake. Although both the popular two-piece dress of a top and a skirt and the qiapo in vogue in the republican years were of Manchu origin in name, the occidental-influenced qipao represented a break from the Qing dynasty and imposed national dress code in meaning by history and cultural and fashion values. After the demise of the Qing dynasty, the loose-fitting broad-sleeved Manchu styles worn with trousers versus the narrow-sleeved

  • [1]

form-fitting styles worn with stockings only have the Mandarin name in common.

If the western-influenced fitted qipao that came about after a cultural, intellectual, and political movement to end absolute monarchy to form a constitutional republic does not represent the Han, which group should represent the Chinese qiapo?

  • In my opinion, it is just general Chinese. I believe Hans should be represented by Hanfu.

  • Very true, thanks for your comment Tallavot. But you know, because of their cosmopolitan identity and dynastic differences, the Hans don't even really have their own costume. It is simply a blend of- as you said- Manchu stuff and the others.

  • Do you now see the historical evidence for the reunification of 56 ethnic groups of China under one republic (communist or not) is no propaganda?

  • re: republican china fought against foreign manchu rule

You left out the foreign rules, oppression, occupation, and invasions of the "No Dog and No Chinese Allowed" occupying and invading British, Europeans, and Japanese and the fight to reform and end absolute monarchy in China (and strengthen border security and gradual reform to end slavery in Tibet).

  • And let's not forget the legacies of centuries and decades of domestic human rights and civil rights violations, socio-economic exploitations of the working poor, racial-religious tension and unrests, a do-nothing get-rich government, unregulated looting by coroporate executives and financial institutions, unaffordable health care and Rx drugs, and failing criminal justice system of the democracy imperialists countries in Europe and the Americas.

  • zoossh, neoclonial anti-communist and anti-Chinese (and Han-centric) propaganda do not work with the just and informed elites around the world simply because of laws of nations, the disproprotionate number of European and American overseas colonies and territories and their exploitive legacies, the decades of CIA-NED sponsored ethnic and religious proxy wars and economic assassins in developing democracies, and that the PRC is a communist state with two systems.

  • i know you are not going to be able to answer those questions. wish you well too.

  • Re: The Self-Determination of the Tibetans

Tibet had autonomy from the Chinese (and the Manchus) central government for centuries until the Tibetan oligarchy collaborated with the British and the CIA-NED (for independence).

  • zhonghua minzu is a misnomer. its true and natural meaning, as used by liang qichao, is han. all others are PRC national which clearly refers to nationality. minzu clearly refers to race or ethnicity. there is no meaning and no reason to confuse the two, when a dinstinct and correct term is already available.

last of all, 56 (or more) ethnic groups IN PRC (political china) is a correct term, and if that is used, it does not constitute distortion or propanganda. IN is more accurate than OF.

  • In what context are you mixing and confusing yourself when no one used or mentioned the word zonghuaminzu here. The video is entitled, 56 ethnicities of China (of a nation).

Why would "by the people and for the people in the United States" be more accurate than "of the United States"?

  • Likewise, why would the 56 ethnicies/nations "in China"' be more accurate than "of China"' when it is the self-determination of PRC to unite all native people and tribal nations of China?

  • because "of" carries a connotation of belonging to, and can be mistaken as purely belonging to, and non exclusive. as a matter of fact, many of the ethnic groups in PRC extend across the border, vice versa. In normal usages, there is little need to differentiate between the two, though in is slightly better than the two.

i do not understand, what you meant by unite. as far as everyone can see, they already hold the same citizenship, if that is what you meant by unite.
