It's not a bad game. It has good graphics, gorgeous animations, good music and of course a unique magic system. But it came out very late in the SNES' lifetime when Square had already decided to part ways with Nintendo (Final Fantasy 7 was released less than a year later, if I'm not mistaken). This is probably the most important reason why it was never released in the US.
playing this on an emu right now, there's some musical overlap with ff5, it looks more like ff6, though the story is authentic. The pacing is good, but the battles are pretty hard..
The boss fights are truly epic, You struggle through them, and I love how it`s all full motion in the battles, for a Snes rpg game.
The magic/mantra system is awesome too, it could do with an in game lexicon after a while thou, but it had it`s charm, it kept you figuring out what combinations were the best at all times.
Awesome music too!
I should pick up this game again sometime, ah, the memories^^
It wasn't released in America since no one was smart enough to translate the japanese magic system into an english one (It was based on Japanese letters).
Still, a fan version was made with a functioning english magic system.
Wow, you did this game? That's RIDICULOUSLY obscure. Some pretty good songs and medleys, but an average Final Fantasy wannabee with a cool magic system....which everybody abuses by casting swear words :P.
I only found out about this game a few months ago, so I haven't played it. Despite its possible shortcomings, I gotta say, I love how the enemies actually are animated in battles. Would've loved to see that kind of stuff in FFVI.
Yea, Square kinda did that thing in the late life of the SNES. Try Bahamut Lagoon, too. Oh, and Dragon Quest VI (yes, I realize Enix made it, but the enemies are animated).
Funny you bring up those two games, I recently made a video for both. I'm pretty sure all of these games would've blown my mind had I played them back in the day (with proper translations, of course).

@Theopontus That is really too bad. Square should remake this and put it for the DS.

Yep, all of those will be done eventually. Except maybe for the first Warcraft, which is kind of 'meh' to me.
